$45 wouldn't make that big of an impact, because you still lose all potential resale value. The only way they're going to get people to commit to a digital future is 1. force it down their throats or 2. have Steam like sales with deep discounts. Digital is the way to go for everyone when implemented correctly. It saves publishers money by not having to manufacture discs. It saves the customer time and money because theoretically it should be cheaper and you don't have to run to the store to get it. I guess it doesn't really help retailers, but they're more or less a middleman anyway.
Now, if these recent rumors about Xbox potentially implementing a system where you can buy/sell digitally purchased games, that's a potentially huge system that would definitely generate interest in the digital space. That gives the potential for ALL the benefits I listed earlier PLUS you still get to keep that resale value. Whether or not it's real is anyone's guess, but it'll be a nice system if true.
