:D

I'm still laughing at someone trying to use Rebecca Greenfield and The Atlantic Wire to bash/troll MS. That is just straight funny right there. :D :D :D

Rebecca Greenfield practically does nothing but sit there looking anything and everything she can so that she can take some random sentence someone said, twist it all to hell and blow it the hell out proportion and make claims of sexism and "promoting rape culture" in the technology field.

For someone who proclaims herself a feminist, it's says a lot about her when other women are bashing her left and right in the comments of her articles for her horrendously twisted attempts to rip some man somewhere in the technology field for supposedly making sexist comments or promoting rape culture, no matter how vague or innocent the words. She's basically the boy (or in this case feminist) who cried wolf too many times.

Only thing I will miss from xbox will be the big controller but hell I enjoyed duel shock way more IMO. I just wish I had money to pre order one right now. Darn job lol. I couldn't live with out my MLB the show and not be able to play it as I hate the 2k baseball ones. Plus this whole all online thing does bother me quite a bit.

I don't think Peter Moore liked this interview (and there's some outright lies in there - EA DID have conversations with both Sony and Microsoft about DRM, that much has been leaked for ages):

At E3 today, Polygon sat down with Electronic Arts' chief operating officer Peter Moore, to ask him about the company's plans for potentially monetizing used game sales, as outlined through Microsoft's controversial opt-in system, or through Sony's statement that third-party publishers are free to choose whatever DRM systems they see fit, and which are technically feasible.

Polygon: A lot of people are talking about DRM and used games for the next-generation. You guys have been watching what has been going on with Sony and Microsoft in the last few days. First of all, what is the EA official line right now?

Peter Moore: "We're focused at this point in time in new games and our official position is, 'I'll get back to you'. Sony have announced what they are going to do which is, y'know, business as usual, and then Microsoft are looking at allowing a publisher to opt-in, should they choose to do so. But if we opt in, do [Microsoft] charge a fee, and if so, how much? We have not internally even begun to sit down and answer those questions."

The narrative I've heard is that EA lobbied hard to have the hardware companies come up with a solution so you guys are not faffing around with online passes and you're not losing potential used game profits to retailers.

Moore: "Absolutely incorrect. As the guy who is the chief operating officer of Electronic Arts I can tell you that EA did not aggressively lobby for the platform holders to put some gating function in there to allow or disallow used games. I am on record as being a proponent of used games. I like the ecosystem. I like the fact that it's kept pricing at a good level for eight years. I like the fact that someone can buy a physical game and see some equity in that game. That keeps GameStop vibrant and they are a great launch and marketing partner for us.

"EA has never had a conversation, and I have been present at all of them, with all of the manufacturers, saying you must put a system in place that allows us to take a piece of the action or even stop it. Absolutely incorrect."

Can I take from that, that EA would be happy for the status quo to continue, as we have seen in the past generation?

Moore: "We will figure out what we need to do. I'm not trying to back-pedal but this thing just happened and we need to reconvene and hear what people think and talk to our retail partners and our first party partners. We had no idea what Sony was going to announce. We'll reconvene next week and figure it all out.

So you have never had a conversation with Jack [Tretton] where he said, 'look Peter, we're not going to do this DRM thing'. That came as much as a surprise to you as to the rest of us?

Moore: "They reserve the right, and rightly so, that they will do what they need to do. I have run two hardware launches in the Dreamcast and the Xbox 360. There's a game that goes on where you are watching what the other guy does and you move, counter-move and figure it.

"But we are completely focused on getting our games right here, watching new Battlefield 4 builds come in and getting that right and getting FIFA right and getting Madden to the next gen level and figuring out what to do with Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare and we're focused on E3."

I understand and we want to talk about the games too. But here we are at this palace of entertainment, with all these new games, and yet the conversation that is going on is about consumer rights. It's about my right to own and to resell the games that I buy.

Moore: "I think that is deep in our world. I think the broader world is saying, 'it's E3, let's see some games' and 'why should I buy a new console. Show me.' I went to see the [EA] booth and it is chaos down there and I am so proud to see 64-player Battlefield down there and a line that stretches to the back of the convention centre."

OK, but let me ask one more question on this subject...

Moore: "Go ahead, you can try it Col."

You had the Online Pass and now it's gone. The view is that you made that call because either the Online Pass was commercially marginal or you have got something else waiting to take its place.

Moore: "We cancelled Online Pass. I was at the meeting. It just wasn't resonating with the consumer. It just wasn't consumer friendly. It was hard work and it was as much work for the guy who would never trade his game in, even though we gave him some digital content, because you're punching numbers in. We just made a decision. I was the chair at the meeting. We said enough of Online Pass. Not saying, you know, it was Austin Powers type meeting of Doctor Evils saying [places pinkie finger on eyetooth, Dr. Evil-style] 'we know we can get it back down the road'. No. That was not the meeting I was in. Online Pass was more trouble to the consumer than it was worth. It was a mistake. The consumer's feedback was that this thing gets in the way of a good experience so let's get rid of it."

No, they wanted to present their idea in a way that worked for them and that they could afford to do. The Ouya is a fantastic idea, that, sadly, doesn't have the developer attention it most definitely deserves. An open platform that gives the consumer just as much access to it's software and hardware as the developers is a dream come true for indie developers the world around.

The ESA being a bunch of pricks about it because the Ouya team was able to rent out the building across from the E3 venue is just the same old big business picking on the small business shit we see every day.

Look I don't disagree and Ouya obviously has the right to rent space. I'm just saying that what better way to grab attention than to have Big Business call the cops on you for setting up what is essentially a hot dog stand across the street from their restaurant. I hadn't seen a word about Ouya at all recently and this just puts them back in the news.

Ouya may be great for indy games and that's all fine and good but I just don't see it ever developing into anything that could seriously compete with "the big three"

Well, the Ouya has already made an impact in that you have Valve and a few others making something exactly like what they kickstarted 2 or 3 years ago.

Also, the Ouya developers didn't want to have the cops called on them. They wanted to have a chance to display their product without the exorbitant costs (which are VERY limiting in what companies are able to attend). It was the ESA that decided to be a bunch of cunts and block their building first, forcing them to rent the space in front of the parked semi trailers.

Also, to think that they expect to compete with the big three is a silly notion, but I can guarantee that they want to put themselves on the map of outside developers that have the ability to work their way up. What the ESA did was just petty.

Nice. It's been confirmed that all the DLC and songs in disk from the first Rocksmith will transfer over to Rocksmith 2014 Edition. This is going to be one expensive goddamn fall/winter. Assassin's Creed IV, Rocksmith 2014, Watch Dogs, Final Fantasy XV, Ryse, Titanfall, for sure Xbox One, possibly PS4. Hello small fortune.

Wtf does that mean an action waiver?

Basically it means you give away your rights when you use the XB1 to ever sue MS via a class action (one person sues on behalf of a large # of people).

That waiver is actually (or appears could be) broader than that though. It basically means you cannot sue MS at all and must resolve any dispute you have with MS via arbitration.

Its becoming more and more standard for companies to require arbitration instead of courts to save a bit of money on paying for people like me.

You don't HAVE to agree to it. Simply don't use Xbox Live or the Xbox One, problem solved.

Yeah this is the LAST reason to not get XB1 IMHO. You could still arbitrate any claim you might have against MS. I'd be STUNNED if Sony didn't also have it in the terms you just click through when you first power up as well.

Yeah, I would not be the least surprised to see Sony with something like this also in their ToS. A lot of companies are putting this in their ToS these days, whether it's blatant and obvious, or snuck in and hidden in the fine print. Much easier and cheaper for companies to avoid the class action suits. I still can't help but laugh at Gator's overreaction response, like MS had just kicked his puppy. :D
