The other is the police are still investigating the incident and if you release what you have while the investigation is ongoing it allows others to change their story and others who were not eye witnesses to claim that they were and base their story based on what is reported.

I'm of the ilk that it is better to remain silent and simply say our investigation is ongoing (at least until all fact witnesses are interviewed).

The simple truth of the matter is, the people out there protesting do NOT care what the truth actually is. Had the truth already come out - they would simply say the cops are lying and that Brown was executed from behind with his hands up despite the fact there are ZERO facts to support such an assertion.

Of course, anyone with a brain knows nothing even close to that is actually what happened that day. The only thing logical/factual appears to be Brown initially ran away after losing the struggle for the gun in the car. Then (for some unknown reason) decided to run back at the officer (and attempt to attack him again). At that point, the officer had already suffered a pretty severe injury and a shot had been fired in the car during the struggle. He thus pulled his gun out (likely said freeze/stop) Brown kept coming so he shot him in the arm. However, Brown being 6'4" 300+ lbs the shot in his arm didn't stop him so the officer had to continue firing until the last two shots hit him in the head killing him.

Last week they held a press conference on Monday where they did not mention any injuries to the officer. They waited until Wednesday for that. Now the autopsy results are suggesting he was charging, and that's practically the first mention of that. It just seems like an utter failure of PR.

They did, in that same press conference, mention the struggle for the gun and that a gunshot had gone off. That seems like a perfect opportunity to mention that your officer had been assaulted. Except the officer had no idea who had struggled with him for the gun, and therefore probably had no idea who had assaulted him.

The troublemakers that are looting and inciting the cops, the vast majority of which are not Ferguson residents, and a significant portion of which aren't even from the STL metro area, don't care what the truth actually is. They're there to stir up trouble. The protesters, in my opinion, care about the truth. They were protesting what had, from all initial statements, been a shooting of an unarmed teenager that had been surrendering. The police took days to offer up anything contradictory to that narrative. Sure, there are going to be some that aren't going to trust the police no matter what, just like there are some that aren't going to trust the word of a black teenager no matter what. Two days later, another black man in Ferguson was killed by a cop; but that one was quickly mentioned as having had a weapon. There is a big difference between "he had a weapon and the cop might have been shot instead" and "unarmed teenager who was not threatening anyone". Those are the two narratives that were playing out. As far as I know, no one has said a peep in protest of the former; obviously there's been plenty about the latter.

I would have thought, especially after Travon Martin, that people would understand how crucial controlling the story (or at least presenting both sides) can be, especially early. But apparently we still don't.

I just read that article a little bit ago. It's NOT looking good for Brown and his supporters. I also love the part about them being upset about the video and pictures of him robbing the store being released. Of course they'd be upset, there went any chance for them to pull the Trayvon Martin publicity move and show pictures of an innocent, sweet 13 year old kid and cry about him being gunned down in cold blood, rather than the large, 300 pound 18 year old who destroyed a cop's eye socket that he was.

They probably could have used tasers, but every single one of those cops are on edge day and night with all the rioting and threats. They are all probably going to pull the pistol every occasion and use deadly force if they must. Watching the video, deadly force appears warranted here.

They could have tried to tase him, but if they miss, they now have a man holding a knife mere feet away and still approaching you. They ordered him to drop the knife and give up, he walked straight at them with a weapon. Any cop would open fire in that situation, and with a the events ongoing there, they're even more likely to use deadly force to end a threat.

Pretty much anywhere, when there is a scene involving a suspect with a weapon, be it gun, knife or samurai sword, the cops are going to respond with guns pulled. I watch the show Alaska State Troopers on NatGeo, and pretty much every situation on that show involving someone armed, they pull the guns out immediately. At the end of the day, they're concerned with going home after their shift. If someone holding a weapon approaches them and doesn't obey their orders to drop the weapon, they'll open fire if they feel there is a threat to personal safety.

That guy clearly wasn't going to stop. And based on the article CLW linked to about this shooting the other day, it was suicide by cop. He was shouting at them to shoot him, to kill him. In that situation with him saying those things and continuously approaching while holding a weapon, the cops had every reasonable expectation he was going to use that weapon against them. Again, yes, they could have tried to use tasers, but in any similar situation around the country, the cops will be pulling guns instead of tasers in a situation like that.

The police promised to release the cop's name, chose not to (rightly so IMO) because of death threats, then when they did finally release the name, circulated that video at the exact same time.

Acknowledging that there's pretty much no "good" time to release such a video, I will agree that there is some amount of "Okay, here's the name... NOW LOOK OVER HERE AT THIS SQUIRREL!" to it. Also, since the cop knew *nothing* about the robbery at the time of the shooting, it does feel like an unnecessary character attack.

And while I'm thinking about, from the comments of the guy who recorded the video, just a general remark directed at no one in particular, enough with this social media Monday morning QB bullshit about shooting people in the leg, please! NO ONE, police, military, self defense trainers, NO ONE is trained to aim for the leg. That is idiotic bullshit that only happens in Hollywood. If you're going to shoot, you aim center mass and you put the target down, every time.

Much like Brown, I'm a big guy. Over 6 foot, over 275 pounds, I can be intimidating. If someone tries to disable me, a shot to the leg is honestly probably not going to stop me. I can still advance on you after a shot to the leg. If I have a weapon, I can still use it. It is extremely hard to specifically aim at and HIT an arm or a leg on a target with a handgun in a calm situation. On a high stress situation like the officer was going through that night, especially after being seriously injured, aiming for and hitting an arm or a leg would be impossible. Instead, as is universally taught, you aim center mass and bring the target down.

This ain't fucking Call of Duty where you can pinpoint your shots. It doesn't work that way in real life.

I agree, there was no good time to release it. But if the officer's name can be dragged through the mud by the rioters and protesters and his name can be slandered, then even if he had no clue Brown had committed a robbery, the public has full right to know exactly who Brown was.

Plus, it was still related as that was a potential motive for Brown to attack and seriously injure the officer when all he was trying to do was get Brown and the other dumbasses to get out of the middle of the street and stop interfering with the flow of traffic. As far we can guess, Brown thought the officer was there for him after the robbery and he attacked the officer to avoid being arrested. The officer had no clue about Brown and the robbery, but it's still all related as possible motive for Brown's attack on the officer.

At 20 feet the gun wielder was able to shoot the charging knife attacker just as he reached the shooter. At shorter distances the knife wielder was always able to stab prior to being shot.

Carried a weapon.

That's just wrong. It's relevant b/c it goes to Brown's state of mind and his propoensity for violence on the day at issue.

Clearly, Brown thought he was a bad ass that could just push anyone around due to his size. He threw his weight/strength around against the guy in the store and then shortly thereafter he does it again against a police officer.

Moreover, it gives Brown the motive for attacking the officer in an attempt to escape arrest for the theft/robbery.

Brown simply got what was coming to him. When the officer is cleared either by the grand jury or at trial STL better be ready for mass riots b/c the idiots will be out in full force and having lived in the STL for 5 years there are a TON of them out there (unless they all magically disappeared in the last 8 years)

Who knows police aren't releasing it that I know of. Apparently they didn't think it was any merit to release the video the woman captured from her balcony either.

Glide the company that the chat was recorded on verified the video was actually recorded at the time he was believed (according to police) to be shot. If that's the case and he lives where he says he lives.. Don't know unless he added shots with a program

Missouri State Senator Jamilah Nasheed had a gun in her possession at the time she was arrested Monday night outside the Ferguson Police Department, according to Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson.
Nasheed declined comment about the having the weapon, but did tell News 4 she has a concealed carry permit. A Ferguson police officer said Nasheed was carrying a fully-loaded 9 mm handgun and additional rounds.

I don't know who was being shown last night, but the guy currently on local TV here (Ben Crump) with the label "Brown family attorney" is the same one that represented Martin's family.

And this is why trying to reason with the protesters and Pro-Brown people is a waste of time. Watching this family press conference, comments by the family attorney Benjamin Crump. My comments in italics and underlined.

He says the process is broken. According to him, the process should be indicted.

In other words, it doesn't matter what the evidence says, fuck it all, lets just indict the motherfucker right away and if that doesn't happen, lets trash the entire system until we get what we want.

"He should be indicted because of, the continuous systematic results that is yielded by this process."

So he should be indicted just to be made an example of to try and correct past failures by the process? I'm pretty sure that's illegal and unconstitutional.

The process is a failure because "they didn't do a good enough job cross-examining the killer of an unarmed person" during the four hours that Wilson was allowed to testify to the grand jury.

So far he has said "the killer of an unarmed person" at least three or four times. Sure remembering to keep that rhetoric front and center.

Where was his credibility ever challenged? By comparing his story with that of the witness statements, which, GASP, largely backed up and validated his story!

Apparently in this attorney's world, 6'4", 226 pounds and 6'6", 292 pounds is equal and there was no way Brown could have hit him with such force as to knock him unconcious.

This process is objected to "because all across America, young people of color are being killed by police officers and local prosecutors put together this (air quotes) "very unbiased grand jury" (/air quotes) and it continues to yield the same results".

So because the grand jury system, in cities and states from every corner of the country give similar results in cases (usually involving a criminal black person being killed by a white cop), because they don't blindly indict the cop and strap him up to old sparky, the process should just be completely thrown out?

The first LOGICAL thing he has said thus far, lets equip every police officer with body cameras so that there is full transparency and no doubt and these fucking rioters can piss off in the future. Finally ONE logical fucking thing said thus far after over 10 minutes.

Apparently attorney Anthony Gray says the only reason there wasn't an indictment is because the prosecutor intentionally presented evidence in a manner that wouldn't secure an indictment. Riiight.

And considering the low standards needed for indictment in a county grand jury, I hope they don't expect much from a federal investigation and grand jury, that have MUCH MUCH higher standards for indicting someone.

He hopes that investigators in still ongoing investigations to continue to do what they have to do and they'll hold out hope that subsequent investigations (does that mean they intend to demand new investigations as many times as it takes to find someone in the nation who will blindly indict Wilson?) will produce a result that reflects the way that evidence is presented (so they want someone who will intentionally present it in a negative light in regards to Wilson and a positive light in regards to Brown.

They want a presentation of evidence that is fair and impartial (read: Pro-Brown/Anti-Wilson) and THEN they'll let the chips fall where they may. Which means they will continue raising hell and shouting "burn this bitch down" every time they don't get the results they want.

Is there profiling against black people by police? Yes. Do black people probably get more basic scrutiny from cops than a random white person will or would? Yes. Is a 6'4", 300 pound black guy going to be viewed as more threatening than a 6'1" 180 pound white guy by a single lone cop? Probably. Will there be biases by cops against blacks? In areas where blacks commit the majority of crimes, of course they are going to be profiled and the police will be more biased against them. Same thing if a largely white area has the majority of crimes committed by whites, guess what? White people will be profiled. It all has to do with demographics of those who live there and those who commit the amount of crimes in that area.

It really all boils down to a couple of basic don'ts. Don't commit crimes. Don't act threateningly or menacingly towards police, don't attack or try to challenge police because you have a "fuck the popo" and black oppression chip on your shoulder. In general, don't act like a lawless douchebag and you won't have any problems with the police.

At his funeral I remember the family playing, "Wind Beneath My Wings" and all of his friends saying that he was only trying to give the gun to the police (lol, yeah right).

I remember thinking, "Yeah, this fucking loser who had AIDS and was shot by the police is my hero. Give me a god damn break."

He was white and I feel the same way that I do now. If you fuck with the police, you get what you get. You're stupid to do that.

Hate to tell you kid, but people do stupid shit for no reason. You ever see videos of someone pulled over by a cop, who then gets into a fight on the roadside when the cop goes to arrest them? Guess what, some people are criminals and don't want to go back to jail (imagine that!), so when they are being pulled over or being questioned by a cop, especially after having just committed a crime, some of them think if they can get away from this cop and hide, then they won't get arrested and go back to jail. It's not a matter of being suicidal or retarded, it's called an open window that they perceive to avoid jail and they take the risk.

It's also called some people just truly hate police, so they'll take a shot at the police. For all we know, Brown hated police and decided to reach in through the cruiser door and take a couple of cheap shots at the officer and then go off running, he just didn't expect to get shot.

It's ALSO called adrenaline and anger can make people do STUPID things. A perfectly normal sane person wouldn't punch a wall for the hell of it. Guess what? When I was younger, I was pissed off over something, my adrenaline was sky high, and I punched a wall. Left a fist sized hole in the wall and damn near broke my hand (how I didn't, I still don't know). Last I looked, I'm not suicidal or retarded either. So guess what, people do STUPID things while angry and/or running on adrenaline.

There are MULTIPLE possibilities and reasons for why Brown did what he did. But because he was a sweet innocent angel, who was legally an adult don't forget (some people have certainly tried their hardest to go for the innocent little child portrayal like with Trayvon Martin), you are too closed-minded, too YOUNG or just plain ignorant to see those possibilities. All you can see is another black person being killed or oppressed by whitey.

And in another showing of ignorance, there is no "IF Brown "supposedly" punched the officer", no "IF he put his hand on his gun", no "IF he was high or had THC in his system or if he had marijuana on him". The evidence PROVES those facts. That funny little thing about evidence, evidence doesn't change just to placate one side or the other. Whatever the evidence is (which is now publicly known due to the grand jury proceedings and reports being released to the public), that evidence is EXACTLY THE SAME today as it was three months ago. But you're too young or too ignorant to understand what the evidence shows or says, or just so ignorant that you don't CARE what the evidence says because it supports "whitey killing another black kid".

Ah, yes, that favorite parrot line of Al Sharpton and the protesters and the pro-Brown camp. Poor little Michael Brown was murdered in cold blood for stealing a couple swishers. Guess what, your little fantasy has been pissed on by the facts. Brown WASN'T killed for stealing swishers. He WAS killed because he assaulted/battered a police officer (which is a felony!) in his cruiser and fought with that same officer for control of his gun. After the officer fired the gun inside the cruiser (amazing how that blood of Brown's got inside the police cruiser and on the officer's uniform if he DIDN'T and only "supposedly" attacked the officer), that was enough to scare him briefly and make him go running off. Then once the fear and flight response wore off and anger and adrenaline took back over, Brown turned around and charged back at the officer.

Brown didn't get killed for stealing swishers. He got killed for assaulting a police officer and trying to steal his gun. In my mind and my opinion, if Wilson HADN'T kept shooting until Brown was no longer advancing on him and the threat was ended, I honestly think Wilson would be dead right now. If Brown had been able to close the distance on the officer and start a new fight for control of the gun, I honestly believe that Brown would have ended up shooting (executing?) Wilson and then running off and hiding like a coward.

And if you honestly believe the officer should have just let Brown run away and not pursue him and try to arrest him after Brown had JUST committed felony assault/battery of a peace officer (after also having just committed theft in a separate incident), then you truly are ignorant. But hey, lets just keep defending criminals and coddle the poor little criminals.

Lots of "interesting" posts to read guys keep them coming as I need something to keep me entertained here at the office today.

The only thing worthy of comment to me is Jeff's comments about the STL. I lived in STL for 5 years (2002 - 2007) and the place while I lived there was an absolute DUMP. The crime rate was ridiculously high (going back and forth with Detroit for highest violent crime rate in America). It was so....... bad that almost all decent people (of all races) fled the city out to West County (or another suburb). The ONLY reason(s) people went into the city limits was: (1) office/work; (2) sporting event.

Then MO passed tort reform and a ton of business left the city limits and moved out to St. Louis County to get a better (more conservative) jury pool and avoid an all homeless jury award millions of dollars for paper cut "injuries". I cannot comment on STL post 2007 but I can only assume the city has stayed the same (or gotten worse) since I left.

NOTHING I have seen from Ferguson has surprised me as there is simply a substantial % of the population in the area that are just looking for an excuse to rob/steel/loot.
