Has anybody been playing the stock market? I idiotically invested most of Michael's money pre-jewelry store heist in BetaPharm and it's tanking now.

Yeah, I've done a little. I don't really get involved in the stock market too much unless I'm doing assassination missions, since you can get a huge profit in you invest in the companies that Lester recommends BEFORE you start the assassination. Some simple investment with all three (with low money at the time), clearing close to $200,000 profit combined between all three of them. I've done two assassination missions thus far, I'm completely putting the rest on hold until the end of the story. Get my money up as high as possible, then start the assassinations/stock market colluding back up and pull in major dollar.

Also, in regards to my earlier post about heists, what a fucking gyp. First heist netted me a cool $20 million, only to immediately lose all of it because of the storyline. So did that entire heist for absolutely nothing. Did the other heist, also never saw a dollar from it since it was all solely for someone else to advance the storyline. I got made, slightly, whole in a third heist. Pulled in over $8 million, had to give up most of it to my handlers, but Michael, Franklin and Trevor all pulled in $443,000 payday from the heist (plus some money given to the rest of the crew involved). So that got me back in the money. Michael's around $750,000 right now, Franklin around $400,000 and Trevor around $600,000. Hopefully a couple more big (hopefully even bigger) paydays, and I'll be all set to invest millions in the stock market, do some assassinations, and make a total killing in profit.

I could start snapping up some cheap properties for all three, but I'm gonna wait. I want as much money on hand as I can get when I get to the point of starting assassinations back up. The more money I can sink into the stock market, the more I'll make in profit.

Also, with as fun as this storyline is, I think at some point after I finish the current playthrough, I may end up playing the story a second time. First, it's a damn fun story with some damn fun missions, but also, I have made some big mistakes here and there with money in my current playthrough. Stock market losses (trying to invest in normal companies cheaply, only to never see profit but instead loss), fruitlessly spending money on car upgrades, getting into way too many shootouts with police or dying in a multitude of other ways, that cost me $5,000 ever time I die. Michael alone has probably racked up over $100,000 in healthcare costs. Plus missed monetary gains because I didn't invest any money in the stock market the first assassination mission (didn't realize that it would affect the market the way it did and lost out on big gains).

So I want to go back and start again from the beginning in the future, take what I've learned from this entire playthrough, and play through a second time playing much smarter. See what I can pull off.

Yeah I missed out on the first assassination payoff too. I read that you can also manipulate the market by buying stock into one of the Postal Services, then go around and blow up the competitor's trucks. Plus when the online launches that's gonna play a big role in the BAWSAQ.

Yeah, first thing I'm doing with BAWSAQ is investing in Ammu-nation. That stock has nowhere to go but up when online launches.

What in the hell do these guys do when you're not playing as them? I just switched from Michael to Trevor after a mission, only to find Trevor waking up from a drunken slumber on some random far away beach, in nothing but boots and underwear, with 5 dead bodies laying on the ground around him. What in the hell went on there? :D

Oh yeah, some friendly advice to everyone. If you're ever out wandering around the countryside and come across a random event where there's a seemingly empty or abandoned van, DONT' STOP! Keep going! I stopped. Oh the horror. No wonder Trevor is such a psychotic on the edge in this game, after what he's been subjected to.

Lets just say it ends with being tasered and blacking out, hearing "you look purrdy!" and waking up on train tracks in your underwear with a train bearing down on you.

I have yet to play it but I have watched videos and no it is in no way better than Tiger Woods 14. The putting is really bad but the one cool thing that TW should let people do is the ability to walk or drive a cart to your ball.

:D Yeah, Trevor's always been the interesting one.

Usually, with Franklin or Michael, when I switch to them, they're at home either sleeping or watching TV. Nothing real interesting.

Trevor? On a beach in his underwear with dead bodies nearby, way out in the middle of the desert in his underwear waking up drunk, in the middle of a police chase with 3 stars already on him, pissing in a back alley in downtown LS with a dead hooker nearby, etc. It's like a never ending adventure with that guy. :D

So thinking about it. One thing that has been disappointing so far in GTA V is heists.

Very little in money thus far. I've done, if remembering correctly, four heists so far. First one was decent money since it was early in the game, but by now where I am, the money I received from that mission is nothing more than pocket change. Two heists resulted in absolutely nothing. The fourth heist, I did manage to get $443,000 for all three characters, but that's still barely a dent in the total I stole. Steal $8 million and change, get $443,000 each.

Talk about ripped off. Still have yet to get any of the three characters even over $1 million in money, and only have two, maybe three heists left in the story. Yeah, not really worth it for a payday between the time, effort and ammo spent.

And you can't even do heists outside of the story. Sure, you'll be able to do them in GTA Online, but why can't I call up Franklin or Trevor outside of a mission and set up a plan for a heist? Go rob a local store, stick up a gas station, maybe make another play on a bank? Why are the heists strictly limited to only the ones that take place in the story?

That was where Rockstar really dropped the ball. Heists could have been so huge in this game. They're fun as hell to play in the story, but outside of that, a total letdown. Let us put together our own heists in single player. Call up the guys, call up Lester, set a target, set the plans and go.

To keep it from being where everyone can stick up a place for millions, maybe make the highest you'd ever see from a non-story heist be like $2 million or something, so all the splits between everyone will bring the totals per person down, but open it up! Let us enjoy heists outside of the story missions in our single player games! Let me enjoy some self-created heists where I'm not just doing them to steal millions of dollars for someone else and only get a pittance from the total (or in two cases, nothing at all).

You can rob gas stations... It's just a stick-up for a few hundred typically but just pull out a gun a point it at the cashier.

Yeah, I've robbed a 24/7 a couple times. Just not the same though. I just wish there was an option to call up the guys, put together a mini-heist. Go back to the jewelry store and make a pure cash grab. Even if you didn't get $4 million and change like you could in the storyline, I'll take a shot at a self planned heist on the store for $1 million to split three or four ways.

Give us a shot at some quick money that's more than just a couple thousand. The most I've gotten outside of missions is $6,500 for swiping money from a bank truck. $6,500 is nice, but it's not gonna help too much in paying the bills.

Right now, it seems like the only way to make some serious money in this game is by playing the stock market. Granted, I still have yet to do "The Big One" ultimate heist, which I'm sure will bring in some mega-money that I hopefully don't have to give 90% of to some random jackass in the game, but thus far, the heists have been a letdown when it comes to money. At least $32 million stolen between the four heists I've done thus far, and I have maybe $600,000 for each character to show for all of them, with the rest of the money being taken by others for various reasons.

We can call up the other two guys to hang out or whatever, just wish they had made it so you could call them up and put together a mini-heist and get away with $350,000 here, $1 million there (with it still being split up 3/4/5/however many ways) to help give a quick money boost when needed.

We have all this stuff we can buy. Planes for a couple million, businesses (some for tens of millions, or the golf course for hundreds of millions), etc, yet, I'm probably in the final 25% of the main story (very rough estimate based on where the story is and has progressed), yet all three characters have yet to even see $1 million in their bank accounts. The highest I've gotten was $780,000 and change with Michael.

Still mainly driving around and getting used to everything but one thing that is odd is the limited amount of places you can enter. Why are the the food joints closed up? At they very least you could have had them as a higher difficulty robbery places. Too many of the buildings are there for show and while I appreciate the scope of the game, it does remove some of the fun when you can only enter a place on a mission.

Yeah, that's also disappointing. I haven't noticed too much to enter. About the only thing is 24/7's and gas stations. Outside of that, I haven't noticed anything that I could tell from my car that I could enter. I wonder (and doubt) if you can even enter the jewelry store after the first heist. It probably transforms into a building that you can never enter again.

Outside of mission stuff the town is locked up tight, which is a bit of a let down coming off of playing open world games like Skyrim and Fallout 3/Vegas. There were more buildings to enter in Red Dead Redemption for crying out loud. All those big pretty buildings and nothing to do with them.

Maybe this will change with online added but I do not see how?

played quite a bit today and its a solid title from rockstar. I'm not as big a fan of sandbox games as I prefer a more linear/story driven approach to games. I suck at driving and shooting per usual in a rockstar game. i have no clue how far i am in the game (i suspect not very far since i'm only able to control 2 of the main characters).

YES! There's the money! Just completed 'The Big One', the final major heist of the game. $200 fucking million!

Of course, as usual, I had to share it. Needed three crew members for the option I chose, they ended up with 45% share of the money, as I went with the best of the best, no way in hell was I sparing money on talent only to see suck ass lesser talent screw it all up.

So between the crew's cuts and Lester's cut, Michael, Franklin and Trevor all ended up a cool $29 million richer! Time to resume the assassination missions, invest $29 million+ in stocks before the missions and make some serious dough when I sell the stocks off afterwards. Hello living the good life!

Once the assassination missions are done and there is no more money to be (easily) made through the stock market, I'm gonna turn to buying property, get some weekly income coming in for all three.

And that's a wrap. Other than a couple assassinations still outstanding, I have just completed the final mission of GTA V, as the credits roll.

This was actually a good story in this game for a change. GTA IV, honestly, I can't even really tell you what all took place in the previous game, the storyline just never really sucked me in. But the story in V was actually pretty good and kept me wrapped in it the entire time.

Previous GTAs, I spent most of my time fucking around in the city, doing missions now and then. GTA V, other than a random deviation here and there (played some tennis, played a round of golf, worked on some Strangers and Freaks), I mainly stuck with the story of the game, going from one mission to the next. I kept wanting to see what was going to happen next in the story and just kept riding it all the way to the end.

I am far from being done though. I don't think I'm even at 70% in regards to game completion yet, shooting for the 100% to get the achievement, so I have a lot of work there to do. Still of properties to mess with, a multitude of Strangers and Freaks missions yet, activities, etc. So GTA V will still be taking over my gaming time for a while. Plus sometime over the next couple weeks, I may start up a second playthrough of the story, change up the way I did some things this time around (especially money-wise) and see if it works out any better.

That and I want to play out the last two or three missions with my choice of A, B or C (the rest of you guys will understand the A/B/C when you all get to it in the story), and see how choosing one over the other changes the ending of the game. This current playthrough, I chose C. And based on the ending for C, the ending for A and B will be completely different just because of what will happen regarding the choice you make. So that's another reason I want to go through a second time, get to that point and see how much choosing A or B changes the ending of the game.

Ok, this is another new one. About to start back up the assassination missions. Going through investing everyone's money into the necessary stocks. Completed Michael's and Franklin's money. Switch to Trevor so I can invest his money, what the fuck? Trevor's waking up, on the peak of Mount Gordo, apparently coming out of a drunken (or drugged) slumber. And the dude is wearing a fucking dress!

I still have yet to make it to Trevor. Going slow as this game needs to last me until Watch Dogs comes out. I played the tennis game and it just is not fun at all. Way too easy and the only value is it helps increase stats. Golf is not much better but there are things about it that are not completely awful. Enjoyed a nice walk of 9 holes with a 5 over round. It started out clear and by the time I got to the second hole it was pouring rain and the water flooding the course did ramp the difficulty at times as I was putting through multiple puddles on the green. There really is something cathartic about being able to walk or use a cart. Especially on the water holes where I can just dive in and swim across the pond to get to my next shot. After the round I stole a car and took a drive on the course, tearing up fairways and greens which apparently gets you a 2* wanted level. Pro Tip: If you already have 2* find all the golfers on the course and run them over as they tend to carry lots of money which helped pay for that hospital bill as I get shot down while in a 7 iron beat down of a foursome.

Oh yeah. Whatever you guys do, WAIT to do the assassination missions until you complete the main story. All of my characters had $29 million at the end of the game. I did the Vice Assassination, with the proper investments. All three guys made $7 million and change in profit, putting them all around $36-$37 million.

I did the Bus Assassination, waited for the affected stock to plummet to rock bottom prices, invested all my money into that stock, waited for it to bump back up to its normal price, made $54 million in profit. So now all my guys had $90-$91 million plus in their bank accounts.

I went and did the final assassination mission, investing all $90 million into the proper stock, ended up making $74 million profit, giving all three guys around $165 million.

There we go, finally the sweet, sweet money I've been looking for. Now I'm kicking myself in the ass for doing the second assassination mission back during the middle of the game. I made 80% profit return on the stocks in that mission, but I only had around $300,000 at the time, so I didn't make that much. If only I had waited until the end of the game, fuck. I could have had easily well over $250-$300 million in money.

GTA V is the fastest video game (and possibly entertainment property overall i.e. movies) to reach a billion dollars in sales. In terms of video games, GTA did it in 3 days, passing CoD Black Ops II; which took 15 days to do so.

Maybe I'm missing it in GTA V but I liked in the PS+ title where you were an undercover cop in Hong Kong (name evades me right now) the ability to click on the map so you basically had directions to the next mission. I basically would finish a mission then pause look at the map click the spot where the next mission dot was and follow the path to it and resume. That made it more enjoyable for me as I just don't get/like the side races random missions etc...

Yep that's the game. Basically you could pause at anytime go to the map and select where you wanted to head next and then it guided you to the next destination. Rockstar is investigating a bug that causes cars in Grand Theft Auto 5 (http://www.joystiq.com/game/grand-theft-auto-5) to disappear after being parked in a garage. The glitch can erase a car "if you drive another character's personal vehicle," and for now Rockstar suggests players avoid parking in a garage, driving a car found in a garage or driving a default vehicle, at least not "when playing as a character other than the one with your upgrades."

There's no fix for the bug now, but to receive automatic email notification when a patch comes through log into Rockstar's Support Site and subscribe to this page (http://support.rockstargames.com/hc/en-us/articles/200218557-Vehicles-disappearing-from-the-GTA-V-garage-or-losing-upgrades).

Meh, a whole bunch of people bitching about nothing. It's nothing more than something there for those too lazy or impatient to build up money through the game itself and instead pay for a bunch of money. Otherwise, from everything I have read and seen, you can still do everything in GTA Online that you can do in the single-player without having to pay for it.

Yup. I could are less about online (unless it magically unlocks all the buildings that were previously accessible in GTA games) and if someone want's to spend real money on fake money to buy fake stuff... Been there, done that, did not feel good about it after the fact but not enough to prevent me from doing so again.

It seems to only be the house garages that are not working correctly, the big garages are still safe to use from what we noticed. Also my friend pointed out that there is another set of garages that cars can be stored in next to the impound lot that is not marked, I haven't checked it out yet, but if that is the case then when you recover a car you can park it in that garage also.

The impound garages don't hold onto your car... I tried that myself and came back much later and they were gone, not even able to be picked up at the impound.

I just hate it that I get out of my car to steal another, then go back to that car and it's gone. Or I park a car, go into my garage, come back out and that car is gone.

Yeah, that has been my issue. I had an Infernus in the house garage of both Michael and Franklin, plus another car I can't quite recall in Trevor's garage. Next time I went in to get them, nothing in there. And I've only recovered one vehicle from the impound lot, every early on in the game. After that, nothing has ever shown up in the impound lot since then. Thank god the only cars I ever modified at Los Santos Customs were the default vehicles for all three and then any specific vehicle I was using for a heist or major mission, usually upgrading only armor, engine and bulletproof tires. Everything else, I just left it the way I stole it.

This may help you understand how impound works:
I have stopped using my bought cars but have stored them in my 4 car garage, if you keep them in there they are safe. You can drive them as long as you return the car back to the 4 car garage when you're done. The house garages are broken and you'll lose your car almost every time but should be in impound. The impound also has two garages that can be used for storage.

My friend spent a few hours trying to figure out the impound on how it works. ( I'll try to explain it from what he has said the best I can)
He said as soon as the impound icon pops up your car or stolen car will be there. It will hold the last two cars that you have driven. If you drive another car and ditch it for what ever reason: (mission, crash, leave, ex..) that car will then replace the first car that was impound and that car will no longer be available even if it was a bought car. The impound will keep rotating thru the cars. So as long as you empty your impound every time the icon pops up your last car will be there.
So basicly if you lose car 1 and and the impound is empty it will be there, if you ditch car 2 on the way to impound both cars will be there. If you ditch car 3 on the way to impound car 1 will no longer be available because car 2 and 3 are now there and car 1 has been removed from the game.
I hope that wasn't to confusing but it does seem to work from what I've seen. Also if you're driving a car you like to impound you can store it in the garage inside the impound lot while you take the impounded car back to where you want to store it at.

punter

Sorry the garages by the impound are for cars you don't want not to store cars in.

Not a huge deal. I felt like I was sort of rushing through the missions, so I had planned on restarting at some point anyway.

It sucked as every time I went into public, it was nothing more than going around trying to kill everyone else without them killing you. I ended up doing nothing but private online stuff with a couple of my friends, just going around doing nothing but fucking around or getting into shootouts with the cops.

This, I'm looking forward to this now that there is actually a reason for teamwork and grouping up together to complete shit online.

Are you fucking kidding me?

First, the launch of GTA Online is a fucking disaster. You have to do some dumbass race with Lamar as part of the tutorial. This morning, this afternoon, earlier this evening, couldn't do a fucking thing. This morning and afternoon, the fucking marker you're supposed to walk into wouldn't even show up. Earlier tonight, the marker would show up, but you'd end up in an endless fucking loop of loading or waiting for other players (DESPITE THE FACT IT'S A 2 PERSON RACE BETWEEN YOU AND LAMAR!)

After what was probably 100 times dashboarding out between this morning, afternoon and evening, I was somehow able to finally get into the race. Completed the race, only for it to go into satellite mode, and then sit there like that for 5 minutes. Had to dashboard out, load up again, moved onto the next part of the tutorial missions. I get through the cutscene, start driving my way to where I have to go, I get within a block of the fucking place. All of a sudden, it pops up saying two people left the session (funny, never showed anyone else in it), and then suddenly it kicks me out of the session, saying other players voted to boot me out.

I load the fucking thing back up again, finally manage to get to the mission marker, go through the mission and complete it. And now, after finally completing the "Learning the Ropes Alone" mission, I get a message popping up saying that I apparently left a mission without completing it, and if I keep doing it, I'll be labeled a bad sport and placed into sessions in the future with other bad sports.

I manage to get through a couple other things, completely ignoring the entire fucking group of people in my session because the retards want to do nothing but kill each other. I start heading for a new mission, some fucktard decides he wants to try and keep crashing into me, then right as I get to the mission marker, I suddenly get kicked out again and told other players voted to kick me, getting another message warning me that if I frequently leave jobs without completing them, I'll be labeled a bad sport.

So far, GTA Online is a fucking pile of shit. Fuck the public bullshit. I'm sticking to private, invite only sessions. The rest of the fucktards can all go fuck themselves.

AND GO FUCK YOURSELF ROCKSTAR!

Oh gee, look at that. Next mission, you have to do some team deathmatch thing where everyone only has one life. So you're forced to team up with other random fucktards just to advance the missions. I set up a game, invited everyone from the session, hoping at least one would join since it's 2-8 players. Nope. Not a fucking soul joined. The fucktards are all too busy off running around killing each other to fucking bother taking part in anything. GTA Online is as big a fucking joke as multiplayer was in GTA IV.

No, I just hoped that since there were full blown crews and a large part of GTA Online was being built around teamwork and working together on various missions, that the douchebags wouldn't be so bad. But nope, still one big circle jerk.

I eventually was able to get some people to join a session I hosted myself, so I finally got that stupid mission done. Most stayed, we did a couple more team deathmatch games together, just did a race just now. Now we're all stuck in satellite view with the game refusing to do anything, requiring me to dashboard out for the 150th time today. Fuck this. I'm done with GTA Online for now. I'm going back to NCAA. Maybe I'll try my luck with this fucking bullshit next week. Maybe the dumbfucks at Rockstar actually will have managed to get this fucking thing working by then.

Well, Rockstar knew it was going to be popular as shit. They then waited two full extra weeks after the release of the game to release the online portion. If those dumbfucks couldn't get the servers working even half as well as they were yesterday, then what the fuck have they been doing all these fucking months and years?

And now, in addition to micro-transactions being added to the game, now they nickel and dime you the fuck to death in Online.

A comment I saw on Kotaku:

It has been discussed numerous times how the online charges you per death just as the single player does. This comes from your total money, NOT JUST YOUR ON HAND CASH and you get charged EVERY DEATH even in modes like Deathmatch.

Knowing this, you could easily go bankrupt playing a hard-fought game of crooked cop or other missions in the online mode where fighting is intense and deaths are plenty.

This brings me to my next point. After playing one such mission with a friend last night, he stated that he only had $19 left so we started a different mission to try and make him some money back. It wouldn't let him join saying, "You cannot afford to play this mission." We both were like WTF?

I looked on my phone and went to the bank website to look at my account transactions shortly after and noticed my costs for dying were pretty consistant, ~5% of my total money per death for "healthcare and bail" but another transaction stood out. "Mission costs and entry fees." "Well then," I told my friend, "that's why you couldn't play, it charges you entry fees for each mission!"

Not really a big deal as its between 300-1000 per mission from what I saw, but for people that will be buying money with real money, be warned. You WILL lose some of your money just to play.

TLDR; online charges $300-$1000 per mission to play and ~5% of total bank per death.

So yippee. Now every time I get killed by some fucking retard who insists on being a fucking retard online, or even doing missions, goodbye hundreds and/or thousands of dollars from my money for fucking "fees". I say it again. GO FUCK YOURSELF UP THE ASS ROCKSTAR! I hope all of your fucking studios collapse and your wives all get herpes.

Oh hell, R* has found a whole new level to take this micro-transactions crap to. Now it's not only micro-transactions with real money, but now micro-transactions with goddamn in-game money. :fp:

Absolutely goddamn ridiculous. So I now I have to deal with the dumbfucks in public free roam who apparently play the game to do absolutely nothing but go around killing everyone else, but now I have to lose MY goddamn money because of those dumbfucks killing me, and pay extra money on top of that just to enter missions. :fp:

Either way you'll end up getting fucked, either by all these goddamn fees and penalties resulting in money taken out of your bank account in-game, or by the dumbfucks who do nothing but go around killing everyone else.

Also, thinking about it now. No, I didn't expect it to be 100% perfect on day one. But the dumbasses at R* went and designed it so you're forced to go through this tutorial bullshit for the first mission or two before you can even join public free roam. When the race marker for the very first tutorial mission doesn't even pop up at all, yeah, nice design job there R*. Create a giant fucking bottleneck that due to server overload and all the other slew of issues, leaves thousands, maybe even millions, from being able to even get through the damn tutorial and actually enjoy GTA Online.

You couldn't bring up the start menu, your Online character would keep getting corrupted so you kept having to delete it and recreate it. When the shit wouldn't work correctly, since you couldn't bring up the pause menu, you had no option but to completely dashboard out of the game and load the entire goddamn thing up all over again. The layout, design and restrictions of those couple tutorial missions at the beginning were basically one giant clusterfuck.

I can deal with the occasional disconnect because of server load. I can deal with the occasional glitch or issue while playing on free roam. But when you can't even play the first mission of the game (that's forced upon you whether you like it or not), much less advance past it and get actual access to the free roam portion of Online, yeah, what a joke. R* shit the bed yesterday. And it wasn't just a normal shit, it was an elephant sized shit after an entire night of Taco Bell and alcohol.

Just frustrated. Got the special edition, so I spent $80 on GTA V. I get only half a game to start with because they decide to leave GTA Online inactive for two weeks after release (they call it a "free game" and this "entirely separate second game". Yeah, my fucking ass. GTA Online was on the disc, all they had to do was release a title update to activate it and let us access it. Free my ass). Then when GTA Online does release, it's been nothing but one clusterfuck after another with my personal experience of it. I have been looking forward to GTA Online since before the game even released two weeks ago. Now? After yesterday? I currently couldn't give a fuck about going back online. As far as I'm concerned, GTA V is on the back burner for a while until R* sorts their shit out. I'll just stick with Halo and NCAA '14 for now. At least I know that shit will actually work when I load it up.

When Grand Theft Auto Online made its debut yesterday, the game was immediately overshadowed by myriad technical issues which prevented (and in some cases, still prevent) players from connecting to the game.

Rockstar has heard the pleas of its fans (including Smooth Pancakes) and assures players that the development team is hard at work on solutions to all of the issues that have cropped up so far. In the meantime, the company offers an update on the current status of the game's PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 incarnations:

For PlayStation 3 users, a PlayStation Network server issue was detected that was limiting the amount of possible concurrent users. This was preventing most players from accessing GTA Online altogether and as of this morning, that problem was resolved.
There is an issue that is preventing some players from getting through the first tutorial mission across both platforms. Many players have been able to get through this with repeated retries, and we are working on unblocking this for everyone as soon as possible.
This morning, we experienced some instability across the GTA Online services which is affecting even people who have progressed beyond the tutorial mission. We are identifying these issues now and are working to restore stability for users as soon as possible.
For the time being and until we have been able to get everybody access to GTA Online and things are running smoothly, we have disabled the option of purchasable GTA$ cash packs. Players can however keep on earning GTA$ by pulling off Jobs and other profitable gameplay activities rather than purchasing cash packs.

Tips for getting started with GTA Online:
http://www.destructoid.com/very-quick-tips-grand-theft-auto-online-262859.phtml

Finding yourself having lots of connection issues? Start the game up normally in Story mode, then press the pause menu, go to online, and start a solo session. Later on you can transition to online matches. Also try entering the game via the character selection wheel to see if it changes any online parameters, or mashing "A/X" at the initial loading screen to force-load Online -- randomly, all of the above methods worked for me at different intervals.
All of the activities that you choose in the character creation process affect your stats, so pay close attention to what you invest in before you jump into the world -- you won't get a chance to change this.
When you have the opportunity to steal your first car, make sure it's a good one, because this is your only chance to get a permanent car free of charge. If you hate it, you can always sell it later and install a tracker/get insurance for a brand new car.
Periodically, you can sell a stolen car to Los Santos Customs -- the average going price per car is at least a couple thousand dollars, which can help you earn early weapons and upgrades rather quickly.
Wear a mask when you rob stores -- that way, you won't be recognized if and when you return. To change into a mask, buy one (make a waypoint to the mask store on the pause menu map), then hold the Back/Select button to check out your costume options.

The best way to rob a store is to use your headset to yell at the cashier (he gives up the cash faster), wear a mask, and resist the urge to shoot them as you'll earn an extra star. Instead of fighting back, keep aiming at them before you exit the door so you don't get shot in the back.
Buy a garage as soon as you can. Although every other purchase is debatable, buying a garage will let you store all of your favorite vehicles in a safe place, and it's one of the most invaluable buys in the game.
Actually try to go for a perfect mission rating. Earning more RP will allow you to rank up, which in turn lets you unlock basically everything. I'm talking new guns, new armor, and new equipment, houses, and more.
Link your Rockstar Social account to get a free sawed-off shotgun, which is extremely useful for early game play since you normally only have a pistol on hand. It sounds self explanatory, but many of you probably won't bother to do it. If you have the Collector's Edition, redeem all of your codes now to unlock tons of free stuff like extra weapons and cars.
Want to ambush players and steal their cash in the safest way possible? Buy lots of remote or ignition bombs, and wait for a player to arrive on the scene.
Keep in mind that Rockstar has a "good behavior" scheme implemented in GTA Online. If you constantly curse out teammates or participate in lots of team killing, players will rank you poorly, forcing you to play with other badly ranked people. If you rank positively, Rockstar will reward you with periodic items and cash as a bonus. As a side note, attacking players that have red dots on the radar is always safe, as they have bounties on their heads.
Always be ready to hit up an ATM at a moment's notice, as the cash you deposit can't be stolen from your person if you die. Use the map screen to find the closest ATM and set up a waypoint. Or, you can deposit through your phone at the bank's website.
Are you sick of getting shot at? Hold the Back/Select button to open up the GTA Onlinemenu and switch to "passive mode." Related to my earlier ATM tip, you need to have cash on hand to enact passive mode, so keep a small amount with you at all times.

In fact, just remembering that there is a special menu that you can access is helpful, as there are a ton of great shortcuts in there, like quick waypoints and other online options.

:D

Now if they would just eliminate the ability for people to kick you out of a public free roam at will (that's going to get abused to utter hell) and the stupid fees to start missions/penalties for each death.

Also, I sent a request to join the TGT group from the Social Club page, though it's probably just ceremonial for me and not much point since I feel like I'm the only one with GTA V on 360, and thus will never have TGT crew mates to team up with.

Me and a couple of the crew guys played a lot of missions tonight and made some decent money. I bought my first house online with a 6 car garage.
It also has a bottle of whiskey, beer, so we can get drunk, but the coolest option is on T.V. set. I can invite people over to hang out and we can all watch T.V. together and see what other players in our game are doing by watching the wheezle news channel. We can sit on the couch nice and safe in the house watching others play GTA this is one of the best things I've ever seen in a game.

Punter, which crew is it? I think I'm part of two crews that you invited me into two different crews. From my brief experience with it Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, going it alone in public free roam is idiotic and a waste of time. So if we're both online at the same time in the future, just let me know and I'll jump into a session with you and others from the crew.

The Crew(Vice City Viles)is the one we're using and you're already a member of it you may have to switch over to it on rockstar. (I think there's a crew option in game online also). That was the second one we made, next time you're on I'll send you a inv. to the game. We've been having a lot of fun doing missions, making money, and odd and end stuff. When you join us we'll help you earn some money. We made around $130,00 each in four hours or so.

Punter you think I could join that crew? It's horrible playing with randoms.

You and me both! :D

In my brief experience with randoms from Tuesday night, got vote kicked out of two public free roams (despite being completely by myself in my own little corner of the map doing my own thing and minding my business), another one I had some douchebag that kept following me in his car and crashing into my car everywhere I went. And yet another a bunch of idiots doing nothing but driving around trying to run you over or drive-by kill with grenades or guns.

There's also apparently a new level of douchebaggery starting up, from some of the comments I've seen on various forums, of finding someone inside a store, then parking your car up against the doors, so that person ends up trapped in the store. :fp:

So yeah, my opinion of randoms and public free roam in general is pretty much zero. So far it's been pretty much an exact repeat of public free roam on Red Dead Redemption. Nothing but idiots going around and killing everyone else and griefing everyone in the game. Now, based on Punter's posts, getting into some stuff with a bunch of crew-mates, alright, I could have some fun with that, I'm game.

Yeah, I mean I would probably laugh the first time it happened, hell, maybe even the second. But yeah, if I kept having to put up with it over and over, it would pretty much kill the fun for me. At that point, the only way out is someone else coming along and stealing/moving the car or you suicide yourself and spawn somewhere else, which costs you money.

Unfortunately, I have a feeling as that trick becomes more mainstream, it'll probably be yet another method of the idiots going around and doing nothing but dicking with everyone else and trying to ruin their games. I sadly just don't have that much faith in the general public of this country to believe otherwise.

Get nothing but a full lobby of crew-mates, we could have some serious fun. Even if at some point we were to just say screw it and have one big free roam free for all or TDM (outside of an actual TDM match). I wouldn't mind that so much at that point, just because I would know it would only be temporarily and not the entire time I'm trying to do missions and stuff.

Yeah, you can create rooms that are invite only (you have to personally invite everyone in) or you can create rooms that are crew only (so only people in your crew can enter). I think there might also be a friends only (or crew+friends combination), can't remember for sure. But there are ways to keep it private so we don't have to deal with any randoms. I went through some of the options Tuesday morning while trying to get the race marker for the first introduction mission to show up. So we should be good there.

Yeah, even 4 or 6, we can still have plenty of fun. Definitely not the same amount of fun as with a full lobby, I agree there, but even 4 or 6 can give you plenty of options for stuff to do. If you're on GTA tonight when I get on, I'll shoot you a message. If you're not online, I might jump into some NCAA, but otherwise, I'll hold off until sometime later in the night and stick with GTA when I first jump on.

Yeah, that was part of my frustrations Tuesday morning/evening. The morning, couldn't get the race marker to start the race to even show up for me. Then in the evening, when the marker did finally start showing up, first time I got stuck with the "waiting for other players" garbage, then I got stuck with it just sitting in an endless loading cycle, and on and on. Finally was able to get through and do the race after about 7 or 8 tries.

Hopefully, now going into the third day since GTA Online launched, things have started to settle down and work with fewer issues.

I sadly just don't have that much faith in the general XBOX 360 community to believe otherwise.:P

Last night around 1:30AM when I got home, me and a couple of my friends got online in our crew and we had no problem dealing with douches. After we finally figured out how to get everyone in my crew (the invite wouldn't show up for one person for some reason, maybe because he wasn't on my friends list or get invited until after we were in game) we completed a couple of the first missions and the team deathmatches in an open free roam. We only had a couple randoms join our free roam, but got placed with people when we tried to do jobs. The only real problem we encountered was that it kept placing me on one team, and the other two people on a different team every single time. Maybe because neither were in my crew when I started my game, because it was our first time getting online with it working. We even had a mission where it was us 3 and one random guy who actually worked with us and we rode 2 deep in each car no problems at all (attacking the objective from 2 fronts).

Idk if it was the time of night when the little kids were asleep (played from 1:30AM-4:30AM) but everyone in game worked to accomplish missions and didn't f with each other. Even when we joined one of my other friends' games, it was just him and 5 of his friends hanging out at the strip club lol. Awesome experience even though we really didn't know what we were doing. Took us forever how to figure out to go back to free roam from the mission voting screen after we did the first mission lol.

GTAO update hits tomorrow....hopefully:

Rockstar is working on a title update for Grand Theft Auto Online (http://www.joystiq.com/game/grand-theft-auto-5/), expected to launch tomorrow, October 4, on Xbox 360 and PS3.

"We're currently working on a title update for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 to address commonly reported issues with GTA Online. We hope to have it out for download as soon as tomorrow," Rockstar writes in an update to its GTA Online Launch Updates post (http://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/51512/grand-theft-auto-online-launch-updates.html).

GTA Online has been buggy (http://www.joystiq.com/2013/10/01/gta-5-players-report-glitches-save-file-issues-after-gta-online/) since its launch on October 1, in some cases preventing players from playing at all. Yesterday Rockstar said it wasaddressing the known problems (http://www.joystiq.com/2013/10/02/rockstar-offers-updates-on-gta-online-connectivity-issues/) and it launched a support page (http://support.rockstargames.com/hc/en-us/articles/200426246-GTA-Online-Launch-Status-Latest-Updates-) specifically forGTA Online issues.

Not sure. I've been killed while in the middle of robbing a liquor store. Was waiting for the money, and some NPCs standing around outside the door started shooting me through the door, the glass broken from the shots. But, other times, I've shot a load of different windows on different buildings, and nothing, it's like the windows are bullet proof. It may just depend on what place it is (clothes stores and the sort may have bullet proof glass, while gas stations, liquor stores and the like that you can rob, have just plain glass that you can shoot out. And last night on GTA Online is exactly as I had in mind for it and the expectations I had for it.

Spent, I'm not even sure how many hours, I lost track, with Punter and a couple guys from our crew last night, playing until around 3:30-3:45 in the morning my time. Spending hours doing various races, demolition derbies in a closed free roam, just screwing around. So much fun. And that was with only 5 or 6 of us at any given time throughout the night. Get the crew bigger, get 10-16 of us on at the same time, oh boy, the fun to be had.

Last night has completely restored my faith in and enjoyment of GTA Online. I foresee loads of time in the future being spend on GTA Online. :)

Punter, I'm not sure if/when I'll be on tonight. I'm stuck at work until at least 10:30-11 PM tonight, and turn around and leave at 2-2:30 AM Saturday morning to go back in to work until 8:30 AM. It's going to depend on if I just stay awake during the couple hours between when I get off work tonight and then leave to go back in at 2 or 2:30, or if I crash and try to get a couple of hours of sleep tonight. If I say screw it and just stay awake, I'll probably jump on for a little while tonight before I head back out the door.

Otherwise, if I decide to crash when I get home tonight and get some sleep, I probably won't be back online until sometime Saturday evening.

Well Punter, you might be in luck of me staying awake and jumping on for a couple hours before heading back out the door.

Our game that we're broadcasting here at work kicked off at 7:30 PM EST. Thanks to a 30 minute lightning delay that got called by the refs 10 minutes into halftime, we're still in freaking halftime now at 9:20 PM EST, with at least a couple more minutes wait while the players warm up before we can start the third quarter. With an entire half still to play, it'll be a miracle for this game to end before 10:30-10:45 PM EST.

Having to track down other finals (with other games under delay around the area) and record an overnight scoreboard to play on air before I leave, I'll be lucky to be out the door and heading home by 11:30. At that point, yeah, screw it, I may as well just stay up. Two hours of sleep will do nothing but make me feel worse than I'd feel just sticking it out all night.

Good times again last night Punter. We've got some good guys in the crew. Lots of fun and a ton of laughter last night. :D

Not sure when I'll be on tonight. Since I stayed awake all night, I've been awake since 4:30 PM Friday afternoon (and even then only got maybe 5 hours of sleep during the day on Friday). It'll be after 9:30 AM before I make it home this morning, and with Air Force-Navy kicking off at 11:30 AM, I'm just going to stay awake this morning to watch the game.

So it'll be middle afternoon before I crash and get some sleep, and I'll be dog tired by then, so it might be late again before I'd wake and be able to get on, probably after 11 PM or midnight again.

Punter, if you see this sometime during this evening, I probably won't be back on tonight. I've been awake since 4:30 PM Friday afternoon (obviously, stayed awake for the 2 1/2 hours I was home last night, and then stayed awake this morning due to Air Force-Navy kicking off at 11:30 AM. It wasn't too long after the game ended when I jumped on this afternoon. So I'm finally starting to run out of steam and am probably gonna be passing out within the next half hour or so.

Just let me know if you guys get on tomorrow, as long as I'm not in the middle of a game in my NCAA '14 dynasty I'll jump on and join back up with you guys.

Hey punter, I may have someone else joining up today. My friend Aaron was online and in the party with me and Blade last night while we were doing some missions. It sounds like he may be going out and buying GTA V today (I guess a $40 rebate FINALLY arrived in the mail yesterday 6 months after a purchase he made in the spring), so I think I finally have talked him into getting out and buying it today.

I'm not sure if he's signed up on the Social Club site. If he isn't, I'll walk him through getting signed up and set up on it, and then I'll either shoot you a message on Xbox Live if you're not on or I'll let you know if you're on tonight.

It sounded like he was going to be getting it today. I've usually been playing only GTA V the last couple weeks whenever he's been on, so he's heard plenty of my enjoyment on it. And he was in the party the entire time me and Blade were playing last night, so we were definitely talking it up while playing and with him in the party.

It also helps he has today and tomorrow off work. Always has Monday and Tuesday off, but got Wednesday off as well this week since he worked a double shift on Saturday. So if he does get it today, he'd be able to put the next two days into playing it, and we'd have him around to do some racing and missions with us tonight and tomorrow.

So we'll find out. He'll probably be jumping online by sometime this afternoon, if not early if he does get out and buy it. If need be, I can also shoot him a text as well at some point today. :D

He just got home from buying it a little bit ago. Got through the prologue and doing those first early missions you have to do as Franklin. Then we'll be getting him set up for GTA Online. I'm on right now, I'll get him started, do some racing, get him some quick money since I'm currently making a couple trips through A Titan of a Job for the quick $10,000.

So hopefully by the time you and the rest start getting on tonight, he'll at least have some ranks and some good money levels under his belt.

I haven't jumped on freeroam or missions with friends yet, but it is fun chasing down a douche who kills you after you load up in GTAO right away, and killing them so much that they quit out.

I usually do the missions solo. I have played with a group of randoms and it was pretty fun chasing down some meth. Chasing down cars though is a bitch. Especially when they drive up the interstate to the other side of the map. I found the best way is to pin them in somewhere, jump out quick and cap them. Sometimes that takes half an hour to get to that point :D

What's your Social Club nickname? Before I add you to the crew, I'll need to make sure we're Friends on Social Club. It seems to make the process easier.

Otherwise, I believe Chris & JB are the only other two that have wanted in that still aren't able to join. I submitted a ticket to Rockstar Support so hopefully they'll be able to square it away soon.

Once we get this all cleared up, we need to have a gaming night sometime soon.

Well Pancakes I broke down and bought the tank last night  Next time your on we'll have to cause some destruction to some unlucky people. :)

Excellent! :D

Be careful though. In R*'s infinite wisdom, making destroying personal vehicles give you bad sport warnings, you can rack up a lot of them in a short time with the tank or Buzzard attack chopper. Talk about a stupid decision. :fp: We already have to pay the insurance costs for their destroyed vehicle, but no, that's not enough. Pay $1 million for a tank, then get punished for using it. :fp:

It also punishes those simply defending themselves. If I have someone constantly chasing me in a car, trying to kill me, I don't give a damn if they're using their personal vehicle or not. I'm going to end the chase the same way I always do (Online or Story), I drop a sticky bomb out the window and blow them to hell. Now I get punished for defending myself that way. I get punished because other dumbasses decide to drive into my tank at full speed and blow THEMSELVES up.

Hopefully enough people complain about that on R*'s support site and forums and they remove the whole destroying personal vehicles thing off of the bad sport list. GTA is about destroying cars, stealing cars and killing, not sitting in a circle singing Kumbayah. It's still GTA on foot. In a car, it's GTA: The Sims.

Yes... for that, it's best to launch into story mode, then pause, goto online and select Solo Session.

As well, you can join a regular session and for $100 you can set it to Passive mode where no one else can shoot you. Once you're in a session, hold select and then find passive mode in the menu.

Exactly why I tend to avoid public free-roam lobbies. I stick to private lobbies with guys from the crew I'm in. Invite only, Private Crew, Private Friends, etc.

Now, I did spend Wednesday night playing in public free-roams with two or three others from the crew. But that was because we were dicking around with others in the free roam. I had just bought a tank, so I was having fun going around blowing people to smithereens. :D

The Downtown Underground race, 3-4 or more people, it'll take a few races but eventually you can get to the point where the winner is getting $10,000 per race. You can rack up some easy money in as little as a half hour or hour of racing.

Well then there you go. Save your pennies and wait for the second half of the stimulus to drop, then go buy your ritzy apartment and have either $247k or $109k left over.

Black Friday in-game promotion:

Rockstar is bringing holiday cheer to Grand Theft Auto 5 with a couple of discounted pieces of in-game content for GTA Online. Players can celebrate Thanksgiving with half-off deals for all rifles and rifle ammo and attachments, specifically the game's assault, carbine, heavy, advanced and sniper rifle weapons. The sales start tomorrow and last through December 1.

Additionally, Rockstar discounted all black-colored clothing, accessories and vehicle modification items to celebrate Black Friday by 50 percent (though the sale for these items are also good through December 1). The vehicle modification items include window tinting, black license plates and black tire smoke for your car of choice.

Lindsay Lohan has called in her lawyers to take action against 'Grand Theft Auto V' ... claiming video game honchos jacked her image without her permission ... TMZ has learned.

Sources tell us, Lohan's lawyers are currently crafting a lawsuit -- demanding Rockstar Games pay some serious money for using Lindsay's image in the game.

So the question ... did 'GTAV' really use Lindsay. Here's the evidence:

-- The video game cover shows a woman holding a cellphone who looks Lindsay-ish. There's been debate over whether it looks more like Kate Upton or Shelby Welinder.

-- Part of the game features a mission where a Lindsay Lohan look-alike asks the player to take her home and escape the paparazzi.

-- Another part of the game shows another Lindsay-like character at a hotel resembling the Chateau Marmont hotel in West Hollywood -- a place Lindsay not only frequents but once lived at -- and the mission is to photograph her having sex on camera.

No word on whether 'GTAV' execs will pay Lindsay or tell her
lawyers to pound sand.

The model is Shelby Welinder, which was confirmed months ago (http://www.dailydot.com/gaming/gtav-grand-theft-auto-girl-bikini-model/).

I vote tell her to go pound sand. Stupid bitch has had her 15 minutes and career come and go in a flaming wreck, so now the drunk, perennial DUI and druggie bimbo is trying to find a new payday and keep her name in the press, even though no one gives a shit about her anymore.

I honestly thought the bikini model favored Kate Upton more than Lohan.

Easily. Really, I don't even see any resemblance to Lohan in that picture. Kate Upton I see in it, but Lohan? I just don't see it at all. If it was Lohan, then the model should have been drunk, high on drugs and partially nude.

I am assuming the update is part of the 42 MB update that was available this morning.

A new update is coming to GTA Online – the online side of GTA 5 – this week, unlocking race and deathmatch creation tools for all players.

Using these tools, players can set up custom race and shootout jobs to play with friends and publish the custom game types to the Rockstar Games Social Club. The creation tools will be included in a mandatory title update, which could be available as early as tomorrow, on PS3 and Xbox 360.

This month will also see the addition of Capture mode, a variant of the classic Capture the Flag mode. Up to four teams fight to steal goods from other enemy squads' bases and get back to their own with the goods. Rockstar promises more info on Capture mode next week.

Finally, Rockstar has outlined a few updates coming to GTA Online next year. Co-op heists is the biggest update due in the new year, though Rockstar also says the GTA 5 story mode will get some new stuff in 2014 "continuing Michael, Franklin and Trevor's action, mayhem and unexpected adventures in Southern San Andreas."

I am excited for the new story mode content in 2014! I just beat the game Sunday night and am now going through some of the extra/side missions now.

Anyone still playing online? Now that there have been so many updates & additions, I may have to start playing it more.

GTA Online, the online side of Grand Theft Auto 5, gets a free update today that adds four new capture-the-flag modes. It being GTA, the flags are so much pieces of fabric as they are suspect packages and stolen vehicles. Simply titled Capture, the update brings Raid, Hold, GTA, and Contend to the game's team-based modes, along with 20 new jobs.

A quick rundown of the modes, then: Raid sounds like standard CTF, with teams attacking bases to seize packages and bring them to their bases. Hold, meanwhile, is about finding packages and storing as many as you can in your base - unlike Raid, packages are also dotted across the map. GTA is like Raid, but with vehicles spread across the map. Finally, Contend is centered around a single vehicle that respawns after it's successfully captured.

According to Rockstar, the update is available now through Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network. It also adds a bunch of tweaks and fixes that you can check out here (http://support.rockstargames.com/hc/en-us/articles/201142326--December-17-2013-Grand-Theft-Auto-V-Title-Update-1-08-Notes).

Coming Next Week, March 4

Enjoy the perks of rising through the ranks of your Los Santos and Blaine County business ventures with The Business Update, coming next week on Tuesday March 4th to PSN and Xbox Live. Thrill-seekers and weekend warriors can hop in any of three all-new, blazing fast sports cars: the Albany Alpha, Dinka Jester and Grotti Turismo R... or take to the skies in the new Vestra airplane.

Swing by Ammu-Nation to pick up two new weapons, the Heavy Pistol and Special Carbine, which both offer some serious firepower.

Dress for success with formal and business casual attire options like new suit jackets, slacks, glasses, heels and blouses, or don new all-business hairstyles and currency themed tattoos. There's also a collection of new masks, perfect for disguising yourself during the next hostile takeover.

This weekend is also your last chance to grab the Albany Roosevelt limousine, the Gusenberg Sweeper machine gun and all the rest of the exclusive items from the Valentine's Day Massacre Special before they're gone. Once you purchase them in-game, they're yours to keep - but they will no longer be available to purchase after midnight this Sunday, March 2nd.

If you haven't played in a while, this is a good day to play GTA Online (http://www.joystiq.com/2014/05/02/double-your-cash-in-grand-theft-auto-online-this-weekend/):

To prepare players for the new weapons, vehicles and clothes coming to Grand Theft Auto Online in the High Life Update, Rockstar Games has decided to boost cash and reputation point awards for the next two days.

From now until midnight, Eastern Time on Saturday, all jobs and activities in Grand Theft Auto Online will award double cash and reputation points. This includes running the game's storyline missions, rounds of Team Deathmatch and even just evading the cops long enough to lose your wanted level. Basically, anything you do over the next two days that could qualify as a scene from a Michael Mann film will be rewarded with copious virtual cash and online infamy.

Grand Theft Auto Online fans would do well to take advantage of this generous outpouring. The aforementioned High Life Update will grant players the ability to own more than one piece of real estate, so while we still don't know when exactly that DLC will arrive, it seems a prudent time to start hoarding ill-gotten funds.

I wish they included Sunday as well to make it a full weekend.

Joystiq: Rockstar apologizes for Online Heists delay in GTA Online (http://www.joystiq.com/2014/06/18/rockstar-apologizes-for-online-heists-delay-in-gta-online/)

The Online Heists feature was supposed to hit Grand Theft Auto Online in the spring, but it's nearly summer and no dice. Fans have been clamoring for the co-op mission madness of Online Heists, and Rockstar addressed those cries in a comment on the "I'm Not a Hipster" update post:

"We know many fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of the Online Heists that we had planned to release for you this spring, and they are taking more time to create than originally anticipated. We are very sorry for the delay, and are working hard to bring them to you as soon as we can. Please know that we are focused as always on making the best possible content for you to play and we are thankful to all of you for your patience, understanding and support. Stay tuned for more information on that as well as lots of other ongoing content updates, enhancements and additions to the world of GTA Online that are on the way."

There's no word yet on when exactly the feature will be implemented, but it sounds like the team at Rockstar is making it one of their heist priorities.
