I suppose it's worth noting in this thread that Todd Mills passed away on Thanksgiving. He was 41.

Those of you that enjoy the Doritos Locos Tacos should observe a moment of silence.

Time for a 2am Taco Bell run!

With "Snowmageddon" on the way (snow was supposed to start two hours ago, but nothing yet), I won't be even leaving the house until probably Tuesday or Wednesday. So far, for NW Ohio (and most of the region), last updated prediction I saw from the local NWS office, 10-14 inches of snow expected, with the possibility of locally in our immediate county wide area seeing as much as 18 inches by Sunday night. So about an inch an hour of snow expected. After that, life in the arctic. -5 the low for Sunday night, 0 the high for Monday, -17 the low for Monday night, -2 the HIGH for Tuesday and -6 the low for Tuesday night, with wind chills plummeting to anywhere from -25 to -45 degrees.

So yeah, get some Taco Bell tonight, and then retreat to the cave and not come out for the next 96 hours.

Nice!

Yeah, this has been a 1-2 punch. We just got buried by 9-10 inches on New Year's Day, only just got dug out on Thursday, the town only just started getting all the snow FULLY off of the main streets (idiots plow the main roads and just plow it all into giant mountains in the turn lanes in the middle of the road, then clear those mountains out in the middle of the night at some later date) overnight last night and were still working when I passed through around 10:30am.

So the city only just got the streets fully cleared of all snow in all lanes downtown after 9-10 inches Wednesday, and we have 10-14 more inches (with the possibility of as much as 18 inches) coming, pretty much any time now, any hour now. So, with this city's track record, the entire city, including the main roads and state routes passing through town, will still be buried under snow through at least middle of the night Monday night. Maybe they'll actually get all of the snow completely cleared from the road (ALL lanes) by next week.

I had The Wicked again. That monstrosity has 5 meats (turkey, ham, roast beef, pepperoni, bacon) and three cheeses of your choice (I chose American, Swiss and Cheez Whiz). Of course, I got DOUBLE meat and DOUBLE cheese.

Also on my sandwich were the following items of awesomeness: honey mustard, regular mayo, 1000 island, red onions, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, coleslaw, jalapenos, bell peppers, oil, salt, pepper.

I just ate the first half. I'm going to be down for awhile now, lol. When I finally tackle the second half, I will post a picture.

McDonald’s Fighting To Be ‘Relevant’ To Customers, CEO Concedes (http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2014/01/23/mcdonalds-fighting-to-be-relevant-to-customers-ceo-concedes/)

McDonald’s is losing customers, as the world’s biggest hamburger chain struggles to attract diners with its higher-priced sandwiches and new offerings like Mighty Wings.

“We’ve lost some of our customer relevance,” CEO Don Thompson conceded Thursday on a call with analysts.

The Oak Brook, Ill.-based company reported disappointing sales for its fourth quarter, as fewer customers visited its established restaurants. Guest counts at those locations fell nearly 2 percent globally and 1.6 percent in the U.S. in 2013, according to a regulatory filing. And McDonald’s expects some challenges to persist this year.

To win back traffic, Thompson said the chain will focus on speedier service, better value offerings and raising “awareness around McDonald’s as a kitchen and a restaurant” that prepares high-quality food. It’s expanding prep tables and plans to beef up staff during peak hours for better execution. It is also bringing in a new U.S. marketing chief, Deborah Wahl, formerly with homebuilder PulteGroup and automakers Chrysler and Ford.

Nothing against McDonald's - if can definitely hit the spot at times - but they need to realize their biggest problem is that you can go elsewhere for better burgers, fries, and ice cream. They can add all the new options & health items and blame the economy all they want, but they need to take a serious look at the quality of their core items.

steelerfan
01-25-2014, 08:58 PM
Agreed, Chris.

I bought a strawberry shake a couple of years ago thinking I'd get the same pink mix that they peddled when I was a kid. Nope. What they provided was ok, but not what I wanted from them.

If I go to McDonald's I'm going to get core items: Big Mac, Quarter Pounder, McNuggets. The mushroom, guacamole, bacon, whatever does not interest me. It's McDonald's, quit trying to be something you're not and get back to doing what you do well.

Tried Subway's Fritos Chicken Enchilada Melt tonight. It's alright, but nothing really special. If the Fritos get soggy, it's sort of bland and meh. If the Fritos stay crispy, it's actually pretty good.

For $7.50, not sure I'll get again next time I'm at Subway. The pastrami was really good and I was fine with paying $9 for it, but $7.50 for Fritos Chicken, it can be hit or miss (one half of mine was soggy Fritos and not that great, the other half was still crispy and actually tasted better), so I might pass next time and either get pastrami (if they still have it) or go with one the staples that I know I'll enjoy for $6.50 or $9.

I agree that they've gone downhill in taste and quality, but unfortunately, Subway is closest and I actually go right past it on my way to work, so it's a more likely choice for me.

Only other choices, Dairy Queen, Domino's, Marcos Pizza, and KFC (DQ and KFC both right nearby, but Dairy Queen doesn't always sound good one day compared to the next and KFC is something I only get once in a long while). Everything else in town, it's a 5-10 minute drive (one way) to the north (Burger King, McDonald's, Arby's, Pizza Hut, Papa John's) or east (Wendy's, Taco Bell, McDonald's) side of town to get something.

Plus some days a sub just sounds good, unfortunately Subway is literally the only sub place in the entire town. We used to have a Quizno's, more expensive but they always had good quality meat and actually really piled on the meat, so you felt like you were getting your $10 worth as opposed to how cheap Subway gets with their meat when putting it on the subs. However, they shut down probably two years ago.

The fast food choices in this town, unfortunately, really really suck. It's nothing but major chains (Wendy's, Taco Bell, KFC, Subway, Burger King, Arby's, Dairy Queen and McDonald's) with some major pizza chains thrown in.

Man eats only McDonald's for six months....loses 56 pounds (http://www.today.com/health/man-loses-56-pounds-after-eating-only-mcdonalds-six-months-2D79329158)

John Cisna, a high school science teacher in Colo, Iowa, who gained national attention for his experiment, says he has lost 56 pounds, lowered his cholesterol and lost a total of 21 inches off his chest, waist and hips while dining only at the fast food emporium.

As enthusiastic as Cisna is about the results, even he’s incredulous about what he’s done. He documents his experience, which ends on March 15, in the new book, ”My McDonald's Diet.”

“It’s kind of scary to realize that in nine days, I’ll have spent half a year of my life eating nothing but McDonald’s,” he told TODAY.

“I’m not bored of the food, but I am missing other foods. I am craving seafood. In fact, my first night when I am done with this, I’m going to have some shrimp and some scallops and some salmon. Maybe some asparagus on a bed of rice pilaf.”

As Cisna first told TODAY in January, he followed a 2,000 calorie diet, using the daily recommended allowances for carbohydrates, proteins, sugar and fat; and he walked 45 minutes a day.

When the experiment began on Sept. 15, the 6-foot-tall teacher weighed 280 pounds, amounting to a body mass index (BMI) of 38, which is considered obese. Now at 224 pounds, his BMI is down to 30 -- still obese but very close to the overweight category.

Cisna said he had no problems sticking to his diet – except one time when he was waiting for a flight at LaGuardia Airport after a long day and couldn’t find a McDonald’s.

“I was starving,” Cisna recalled. “In front of God and the whole world, I admit that that night, I had a bag of cashews, an apple and a diet Pepsi, so that’s the only time that I have broken from the diet.”

While enjoying his weight loss, Cisna is particularly excited about the results of his blood tests: He says his total cholesterol dropped from 249 to 190, including a 25 percent decrease in his LDL or “bad cholesterol.” Despite concerns that he was eating too much salt, Cisna said his sodium levels and blood pressure are normal.

I tried that new McDonald's burger today. It was decent (the bun was really good) but there were so many other flavors going on with it that the sauce kind of got lost. I'll stick with the Big Mac, on the rare occasion I go to McDonald's.

Damn, I didn't realize it was a 10-year exclusive deal. I'll still get Baja Blast when I feel like subjecting by bowels to Taco Bell, but thank you lord, I can finally buy it in a gas station or store. Baja Blast is so damn good, I've been wanting it outside of Taco Bell for years.

Plus now I'll be able to actually enjoy Baja Blast when I get it. My Taco Bell has been very very hit or miss lately. Sometimes I'll get a Baja Blast and it's strong, it's very flavorful, tasty, etc. Other times I'll get it, and it the tank desperately needs changed, it tastes like watered down moose piss with hardly any Baja Blast flavor and is very hard to drink because of lack of flavor and awful taste. Every time I go to Taco Bell, it seems to be a 50/50 toss up between good solid tasting Baja Blast and end of tank super watered down moose piss Baja Blast.

It is that way here too. One visit it is the nectar of the gods, the next visit it's Windex. The proper water/syrup ratio must be very precise for the proper taste, apparently.

I just bought my first ever bottle of the bottled, non-Taco Bell Mountain Dew Baja Blast, and it...is...glorious!

Now, it's not 100% the same as Taco Bell's Baja Blast, pretty much since it's the bottled as opposed to fountain drink. But, it's still seriously goddamn good! This is a great day!

I had some Baja Blast cans the last two days and also noticed it's not quite the exact same as fountain. That's to be expected, but I was slightly disappointed by that fact. However, I will still drink every can of it, so it must not be that bad/different. Just like in TB, I find it tastes so much better the colder it is.

Yeah, I loved it when it you got it at Taco Bell right after they changed the tanks. It was a fresh new tank and super strong Baja Blast taste. It's definitely not the same as fountain, however, it's for the most part close enough that it's still damn good and I've enjoyed every drink I've taken of it tonight. And I agree, the colder it is, the better. It's still alright when not cold, but drinking it while cold is definitely preferable, as you said, just like in Taco Bell.

Keep an eye out for this at your grocery store. Like the other similar products it's 10 calories per packet and sugar free. It's very good. I've also got watermelon which is awesome and cherry which is no better or worse than any other brand of cherry.

Yeah, we only have the big chains here. McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, Arby's, KFC, Subway, Dairy Queen, Buffalo Wild Wings, Fricker's, Bob Evans, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Papa John's, Dominos, Marcos, etc.

We do have some locally owned stores, but they're either go in and sit down diners or local mom and pop pizza places.

The only really truly good "fast food" local place is a small place in the mall food court that is carryout only called Hot Rice. Fucking amazing Chinese! Authentic stuff too, it's a Chinese family who own and run it, cook and make it fresh right there while you're waiting (maybe 5 minutes MAX wait for the most complex orders).

Pretty cheap too. Only $8-$10 for a giant container of food that leaves even me stuffed to the gills after eating it, and I can eat a lot without feeling full. My favorite is chicken teriyaki on top of fried rice with vegetables, that they cook on the wok right there on the spot only after you ordered it. Their General Tso's is really good too. It has a perfect layer of spicy as it should. Sadly most "chain" Chinese restaurants neuter their General Tso's chicken and it never has any spiciness to it at all.

We have a 5 Guys. I rather have a Whopper. I went to an In-N-Out when I went to E3 like 5 or 6 years ago. It was a good burger but I was underwhelmed because it was so hyped up by everyone before I had it. Damn good shake though.

I've had Five Guys and I wasn't impressed at all. 2 burgers, 2 fries, 2 drinks and it was like $23. That would be fine if it was great but the burgers were smallish and just ok.

Smashburger didn't impress me either. Had it once and it was just ok. Not bad at all, just not something I'd go out of my way for.

The first couple of times that I had Steak & Shake was in Dallas like 10 years ago. I thought it was great. Now we have them in Houston and I've only been once and it was just ok. The shakes are good though.

I've never had In n Out.
