Nah, they didn't quite live up to the hype, but they are still pretty good. I rarely, rarely ever eat hard tacos, sticking to a rotation of burritos, quesadillas, chalupas, gorditas, etc. When I get regular tacos, I pretty much stick exclusively to soft. But these were worth it going with a hard(ish) shell instead of soft.

If I do eat Taco Hell, it's usually a few soft tacos and a Grilled Stuffed Burrito or a Crunch Wrap Supreme and a few chicken soft tacos. I'm not much for all the other stuff that they like to do with their food. It's either too much bean stuff, WAY too much shitty cheese, or just not all that interesting to begin with. About the only thing I eat differently from the aforementioned is, sometimes, I'll get a Mexican Pizza or somethin'.

For the most part though, I HATE hardshell tacos and those Doritos tacos look absolutely disgusting.

For those who have made the trip and tried out the Doritos tacos, which did you prefer? Nacho Cheese or Cool Ranch? I found myself preferring Cool Ranch the most. Towards the end of their test thing in October, Cool Ranch was the only kind I was getting by that point.

Nacho Cheese is the only one available as of yet. At least here. I'm sure they'll launch the other ones later to keep the hype going.

I have been hardcore on Burger King's Carolina BBQ Whopper lately. Damn that thing is good. Actually, both their BBQ Whoppers are damn good. The Carolina BBQ sauce is sweet, it's got bacon, pepperjack cheese and with the mix of toppings, damn good. The Texas BBQ, the sauce has a smoky, spicy taste, American cheese and jalapeno slices to give it that nice spicy kick. Both are the perfect opposites and complementary of each other, the spicy and smoky Texas BBQ Whopper, and the sweet and tangy Carolina BBQ Whopper.

BK also has a Memphis BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich, but I've never had it. Not much with it, just pulled pork (though the sweet, hickory-smoked Memphis BBQ sauce sounds good), onion slices, and a sweet southern sauce, so I've never really considered it before, I just go straight for the Carolina and Texas BBQ whoppers.

You would be correct. But, for $5.99 it's not too bad considering that you don't need anything else to fill you up. I wasn't sure how big they'd be so I ordered 2 Doritos Tacos too. Those went in the fridge and were eaten this morning because the nachos were more than enough.

That said, there's a REALLY tasty restaurant in Nitro, WV called Diehl's Family Restaurant that has AMAZING food. They have a whole freakin' fried chicken (individual pieces, but it's the whole chicken).

Welcome to life in NW Ohio. We don't have any of the good shit. :( Outside of mom and pop joints, all we have for chains are Applebee's Arby's, Bob Evans, Buffalo Wild Wings (don't open until 11am), Burger King, Dairy Queen (don't open until 10:30), Friendly's, Frickers, Frischs Big Boy, KFC, McDonalds, Subway, Taco Bell, Wendys and a slew of pizza places (7 or 8 if I'm remembering them all).

The nearest Sonic, or Sonic-equivalent, is in Bryan, a 20-25 minute drive away.

So when I get off at 9am, that leaves me waiting an hour and a half if I want a simple burger.

Small town here with only a McDonald's and a Sonic. Sonic serves breakfast all day but they have too few options. The French toast sticks taste like cardboard, the burritos are okay but nothing special. The croissant is the best thing on the menu. They used to have a pancake on a stick which was tasty. Burgers are average, fries are crap, tots are okay. Only thing Sonic is good for is the popcorn chicken, mozzarella sticks and the slushes. If I want ice cream I fond the nearest DQ,

They pay their carhops waiter pay (here in Texas $4.25 an hour plus tips) and they have to deal with the insane weather in many places. Plus all the dickheads that do not tip because they consider it fast food and they never tip at other fast food establishments.

Agreed. They actually had a decent business model, just not anyone smart enough on how to make it successful. We've had 3 around my area close down within a year or so of opening because they, a) suck as a business and b) opened in fast food hot spots (near McDonalds, Burger King, Chick-Fil-A, etc..)

Never had it. I have no idea where the nearest one is to me, but I know it's not anywhere within 50 miles of me. I'm gonna guess I'd have to go to Detroit or Columbus, but driving 2+ hours to Detroit and 3+ hours to Columbus sort of kills any chance of me ever trying it.

Really, I don't know, it just doesn't look that impressive to me. I can get a nice cheap cheeseburger (as well as double cheeseburger or jr. cheeseburger) with ketchup, mustard, cheese, lettuce and tomato from Wendys, McDonalds or Burger King (and have it at least be good) for one or two bucks and change. Whereas White Castle, it's what? A tiny ass patty with onion and pickles and maybe cheese? Yeah, I'll pass. I'll stick for the cheap and tasty cheeseburgers and junior cheeseburgers with everything on them.

White Castle is overrated and over priced. Damn near $0.60 for a tiny square hamburger. Once in a blue moon after drinking or while drinking I'll get the crave but its few and far between. Everyone is hyped on the pretzel bun train. I tried the Sonic hot dog on pretzel bun and the bun was okay but the hot dog was shit. Wendy's has a pretzel bun burger I might try on my next trip to Kansas.

I wish more fast food joints would go back to making Sourdough bread burgers. I used to eat Carl's jr and they were okay but the perfect burger for me would include the sourdough bread from Schlotzky's (http://www.schlotzskys.com/). Way overpriced but so darn good.

My friend has been telling me about that place for awhile. He finally got me to go and he told me what to order, lol. The sandwich is normally like $11 but we, under his direction, got double meat (no ***) and double cheese which adds $6. We also got avocado which adds $2.

In all, my sandwich had turkey, ham, roast beef, bacon, pepperoni, american cheese, cheddar cheese, cheese whiz, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, red onions, jalapenos, avocado, mayo, mustard, thousand island, salt and pepper. I think that's everything that was on it, lol.

The sandwich is 14" and was a massive lunch and massive dinner. It was a good 8-9 hours between being able to eat the two halves. When you think about getting 2 meals for $10 each, it's not bad. Also, it was ridiculously good.

Ah, well then, that's not so bad. When you first mentioned it, all I could think of was one of those fine dining places where you pay top dollar for a tiny ass plate of food. :D

Damn, I would love to give that a whirl. I looked them up online, unfortunately their closest place to me is either Cincinnati, Cleveland or Columbus, a good 3+ hours drive away. Seeing as I rarely make trips to any of those cities (last trip to Columbus was 2009, Cincinnati 2010, Cleveland 2011), it'll probably be a good long while before I'm back around those areas. I'll definitely keep them in the back of my mind for the next time I am in either of those cities.

It was just as delicious as fuck as I remember it being the last time they had that available. So damn good. For as long as Taco Bell keeps that thing around, I will be getting it each and every time I go to Taco Bell in the future. :nod:

On a whim, for the hell of it, I also gave a whirl with their 4-pack Cinnabon Delights. Oh sweet Jesus those were good. A bit smaller than I expected, but for $1.49 or however much it was, eh, oh well. But so damn tasty. Little ball-type pasties, have melted liquid-form Cinnabon frosting on the inside, covered in their cinnamon sugar. The four I got were fresh, still pretty damn hot, but oh so damn delicious. Pop one in, the dough sort of collapses in on itself and then just a flood of the molten frosting. I think I may also be getting those each visit to Taco Bell in the future. :nod:
