I've been in a big metal and rock kick since winter, and came upon a group recently, since I've been hearing their newest song on the rock station I listen to in the car.
Volbeat, a Danish heavy metal band formed back in 2001. Their first album was released in 2005, their newest (6th) album released last June. They play a fusion of heavy metal, rock and roll and rockabilly, with inspiration from Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Metallica, Slayer, Social Distortion and from modern hard rock, heavy metal, thrash metal, alternative rock and punk rock groups.
They're currently a supporting act on Metallica's WorldWired Tour 2017 stadium summer tour.
And their newest single just released in March that has been playing a ton on the local rock station, Black Rose https://youtu.be/KxK9iCoTeVU
Also, due to watching him for the past however long it was on WWE, I've started listening more to Chris Jericho's band Fozzy, including the title single from their new album coming out this September, Judas. https://youtu.be/lqURPBtGJzg
After a LONG 8 year wait, there is some new CKY! New lead singer too, but he's a founding member and I dig it. Kinda has a Clutch groove to a lot of the album plus the CKY flavor.
Another band I've been big on for the past year or so (along with Volbeat), has seriously come on big in recent months, the band Greta Van Fleet.
They sound a lot like, and are constantly compared to, Led Zeppelin when people listen to them. The band formed in Frankenmuth, Michigan in 2012 with a trio of brothers and a friend. They're only around 20 or 21 years old right now, so they have a long history in front of them.
Their first EP, Black Smoke Rising, made it to 30 in the US Rock charts and up to 10 in the US Hard Rock. Their newest EP, From The Fires, topped at #1 in the US Hard Rock charts and #4 in the US Rock charts. They've released two singles so far, Highway Tune and Safari Song, both hitting #1 in the US mainstream rock charts. Their first album is supposed to be releasing this summer, combining their Black Smoke Rising and From the Fires EPs along with four new songs.
Something that surprised me, they are featured in both MLB The Show 18 and Far Cry 5, with both games using their single Safari Song as well as Far Cry 5 also using Highway Tune for their soundtracks. I was thrilled as hell to see their music featured in two major video games that both released just two weeks ago. Maybe they'll appear in more game soundtracks this year.
I'm also throwing Edge of Darkness, from their newest EP, in here as well simply because of that kickass guitar solo during a live performance.
