    Schwaun's Season Statistical Overview

5 of our offense fell in the bottom 12 of total yds. Brewer U (3710), OKC (3760), Reno (4301), Rochester (4361) and Stryder (4618). While SHSU led the nation with 8243 total yds. Pass offense, SHSU bested the second best team by almost 2000 yds, 6743 vs 4862 (TTU).

Rushing yds is another story, VSU was 4th in Nation (2079) with Rochester being 6th in nation (2052), those teams are 2nd and 1st respectively. Next closest was myself with Reno (1387) and then Brew U (1369). BTW Qwigs, your offense was impressively balanced, to go with the 1369 on the ground, you threw for 1500 through the aire, a difference of only 131 yds.

SHSU led nation in PPG with 56.4, next closest was Boise with 42.1. Next closest user was VSU with 38. 3rd best user was Badlands college, 29.2. Passing TD's, SHUS ofcourse led the way with 74, next closest was TTU with 45. Next closest user was Arizona Tech with 32 and then Badlands College with 24. VSU led the way in terms of Rushing TD's with 43, then Rochester with 31 and then UT-Memphis with 25. On to the defensive side of the ball...

Total Offensive Yds Allowed: Reno bested the nation only allowing 2229, OKC followed up with 2479 and Rochester with only 2634 allowed. Central Michigan??????WTF??? was the stingiest pass defense, only giving up 1732 yds, Reno was first among users giving up 1797. Rochester was right behind giving up 1811, and then OKC with 1952 allowed. Reno and OKC finished one-two in the rush defense catagory, 432 and 527, UT-Memphis is next user with 774 allowed. Total points allowed, Reno again leading with only allowing 116, Rochester second best user only allowing 131, Stryder next with 210 allowed. UNC was tops among the sacks catagory with 49, closest user was Arizona Tech with 33, then no one until Reno with 26 and SHSU with 25. SHSU led the users with 21 INT's, VSU was tied and Reno with 18. VSU Wolves Season Preview:

After a successful season in which the Wolves went 12-1, with only a close loss to the Rochester Raiders, the Wolves embark on season 3. Gone are 3 starters on the offensive line as well as Junior RB Brian Bowman and RS SOPH Duane Reade. Both were unexpected defections to the NFL as both had underwhelming seasons due to injury. However, Bowman's sheer sophomore campaign and measureables were enough to make him a 2nd round lock with possible move in the 1st round. Reade is an enigma. The measureables were there but the playmaking wasn't. He's expected to be a 3rd or 4th round pick.

Returning are all everything QB John Hall, Doak Walker runner-up Travis Holley, and previous injured star Bryson Hughes

We also welcome an incoming class which is expected to contribute early and often.

    Reno

After a respectable 12-1 showing in 2011, Reno finished 2nd in the polls behind Rochester. The team looks to make it through the always tough Pac-10 and to NC this year. With most offensive and defensive starters returning for the 2012 year, this looks to be a good year for Reno to make it. Now, lets meet our 2016 class:

(3*) WR Marion Clark: 68 OVR, 93 SPD, 79 ACC, 60 AWR, 80 CAR, 61 CAT (stole him away from BYU, was at the -1 spot in wk 5)
    - Clark probably wont make it onto the field this year, as the coaches wan't to redshirt him and let him work with the practice squad before getting him some reps on the field.

    (3*) LT Lance Alexander: 65 OVR, 91 ACC, 42 AWR, 79 PBK, 70 RBK
    - Alexander has average run blocking ability with above average pass blocking ability. He needs to work on his ability to recognize what the defense is doing infront of him before seeing significant playing time.

    (2*) LT Cedric Jones: 63 OVR, 80 ACC, 54 AWR, 62 PBK, 64 RBK
    - Like Alexander, Jones needs to work on most of his skills as an o-lineman before seeing any significant playing time.

    (3*) RT Justin Stevens: 67 OVR, 82 ACC, 60 AWR, 73 PBK, 73 RBK
    - Stevens comes in as a true FR and is already just as talented as the SR RT Gary Ray, this will be a great position battle to keep an eye on throughout spring.

    (2*) RT Jermaine Kramer: 56 OVR, 71 ACC, 45 AWR, 61 PBK, 65 RBK
    - Kramer has A LOT of work to do before getting a sniff of playing time.

(3*) RE (JuCo) Robert Andrews: 66 OVR, 80 ACC, 46 AWR, 82 PMV, 69 FMV
    - Has a great bull-rush, and is outstanding at overpowering weaker tackles, however, against stronger ones, has an inability to get by them using finess.

    (3*) RE Chris Ferwerda: 67 OVR, 79 SPD, 77 AGI, 87 ACC
    - Great catching ability for a safety and can really hit hard. Sometime's gets caught looking into the backfield trying to make a big play, and lets receivers get by him. Will need to fix that before being on the field all game.

    (3*) DT William Joyce: 73 OVR, 73 SPD, 88 ACC, 50 AWR, 76 PMV, 72 FMV
    - One of the only recruits to get immediate playing time as a FR. Starting along side experienced starter, Dykes, will help this young man transform into a great player up the middle.

    (1*) DT Carl Jones: 44 OVR, 49 ACC, 62 STR, 55 PMV, 61 FMV
    - Awful, just awful...

    (1*) DT Keith Landry: 43 OVR, 70 ACC, 67 STR, 52 PMV, 62 FMV
    - see above description

(Tr) LOLB Marquis Simmons: 77 OVR, 90 SPD, 81 ACC, 55 AWR (will not be starting due to NCAA regulations)
    - Will have to sit out this year due to transfer rules, but will immediately boost the LB corps next year, in addition to Earl Titan.

    (2*) LOLB Martin Holmes: 66 OVR, 70 SPD, 84 ACC, 45 AWR
    - Needs to work on getting a sense of whats going on around him while the play is happening, great physical talent though.

(Tr) MLB Earl Titan: 75 OVR, 78 SPD, 80 ACC, 43 AWR
    - Will have to sit out this year due to transfer rules, but will immediately boost the LB corps next year, in addition to Marquis Simmons.

    (2*) MLB Chad Palmer: 63 OVR, 83 SPD, 77 ACC, 40 AWR
    - Very fast, needs to work on recognizing and diagnosing plays better, tends to over pursue and leave cut back lanes.

    (3*) LOLB Alex Martin: 70 OVR, 92 SPD, 89 ACC, 83 STR, 41 AWR
    - Amazingly quick for a 6'2" 227 LB line backer. Needs to work on tackling better. Look for Martin to become a standout player in two or three years under the coaching of defensive minded Coach Schauwn.

    (2*) ROLB Titus Mitchell: 66 OVR, 70 SPD, 85 ACC, 45 AWR
    - Titus has some work to do behind some better players before seeing significant playing time on the field, although could help out on special teams.

    (3*) ATH/CB Deandre Davis: 64 OVR, 86 SPD, 81 AGI, 93 ACC, 57 AWR
    - Will have to learn from defensive leader Mike Washington before seeing any significant playing time.

    (3*) FS T.J. Torres: 64 OVR, 90 SPD, 80 AGI, 89 ACC, 61 AWR
    - Will be under the tutelage of SR FS, Ross Hawk who led the team in INT's last year. He won't see much of the field unless Hawk misses significant time with an injury.

    Rochester's incoming class:

73 FB T McBride 2* Starter 88 STR!!! He's a freaking tank. Awesome blocking skills and catching.
72 CB J Lemon 3* Starter Best cover guy on the team... as a true FS
72 QB D Jackson 3* As mobile as Wells, needs to work on THA
71 DE K Rhodes 3* Starter Steal late in the season, did not expect him to be so good.
    71 WR E Jackson 3* Starter 95 Spd!
    70 LT J Jackson 4* Starter Blah
69 WR R Lawson 3* Starter Great ACC / Release. Will be great against the press.
69 LG D Williams 3* Another late season steal, did not expect him to be so good.
69 WR/ATH R Noble 4* Starter He actually rated 71 as a HB, but he's 6'6" something is just wrong about a HB that tall
69 OLB L Whitehead 2* So Starter Another late season steal, an improbably JUCO starter
    68 HB/Ath M Rankin 3* Slow ( 80 spd
68 C T Roberts 3* Starter Not very strong, but great blocking skills, surprised he's not rated higher.
68 CB G Sanders 3* Will compete for dime back
67 CB/Ath J Bennett 3* Will compete for dime back
67 OLB K Bowen 3* Might be able to get time as 2nd MLB.
    67 RG D McCoy 3*
    65 MLB D Williams 3*
    63 OLB R Gaston 2*
    61 HB K Williams 3*
    50 QB T Douglas 2*

    Season 5 recruiting roundups/season recaps:

    SHSU Season Recap and Recruiting
    Quote

This was a good year for the Bearkats. Coach Underwood decided to cut back on the air assault and add some sort of running game to their offense. First year starter at QB, Barrett Gray, did a fantastic job running the offense this year. He led the nation in passing yardage with 4,132 (that's half of Major Applewhite's performance last year lol) and threw for 39 TD's and only 9 INT's. This year the RB position was plagued by injuries. The top two RB's were hurt early in the season in a game vs UT Memphis. Sophomore James Estes ran for 535 yards and then was hurt for the rest of the season after a broken collarbone. Coach Underwood hopes that Estes injury will not affect his performance next season. Defensively, the Bearkats improved tremendously, in most of the games lol. The Bearkats held VSU to only 17 points which was a huge success for them because Coach Talukdar usually has their number. The biggest improvement was against off record rival UT Memphis. The NCAA does not consider them as a rival but the games between us are always shootouts. This year the defense was able to hold UT Memphis to 14 points and was the key to the victory. It may not seem to be hard to improve from DFL in almost every defensive category, but the lack of athletes and low defensive IQ from the coaching staff made things difficult. Next year, Coach Underwood has high hopes for the defense with some good recruits coming to Huntsville.

    Recruiting Recap

This was the best year for recruiting in SHSU's brief history. The Bearkats currently have the #3 recruiting class in the nation snagging two 5* ten 4* and four 3* players. Here they are:
    5*:
ATH (#5) 6'2" 192 LBS Ryan Garrett out of Lawrenceville, GA. Ryan has decent speed and agility and it is uncertain where he will be on the field.
SS (#2) 6'1" 196 LBS Nick Daniels out of Lackawanna, NT. Nick has excellent coverage ratings and is considered a "hard hitter." His ability to cover ground will make him an instant starter on the Bearkat defense.

    4*:
HB (#9) 6'1" 194 LBS John Little out of Harrison, NY. John has decent speed and breaking tackle ability. He will be a valuable asset to the offense.
WR (#6) 6"0" 203 LBS Ryan White out of Willow Grove, PA. Ryan has good speed but will have to battle to get playing time.
DE (#12) 6"8" (yes I said 6'8") 204 LBS Donny Matthews out of Brent, FL. Donny is going to be a beast on the D line. He will also be a PF on SHSU's basketball squad.
DE (#14) 6'1" 244 LBS Joe Hughes out of Mamaroeneck, NY. Solid player on the outside of the D line.
SS (#4) 6'2" 218 LBS Andy Wiley out of Concord NH. Andy will be switching to FS for the Bearkats. He has good speed and is a big hitter.
HB (#5) 5'9" 213 LBS Martin Davis out of North Olmsted, OH. This little oompa loompa has good speed but will be battling for some playing time. Recruited him for some depth at the RB position.
DE (#15) 6'2" 254 LBS Matt Berry out of Adamsville, AL. SHSU was able to take him from Alabama. With his lack of speed but great size, Matt will most likely be moved to the DT position.
TE (#4) 6'7" 272 LBS (he's a monster) Lee Nugent out of Garden City, MI. Lee will be going out for some passes while also playing FB in the goaline. WATCH OUT!
QB (#7) 6'2" 192 LBS Glenn Allen out of Baton Rouge, LA. SHSU battled with LSU and Texas to pick up Glenn. He has great speed but horrible accuracy. He might redshirt or play in blowouts to see if his accuracy can improve.
CB (#8) 6'1" 169 LBS Jesse Fuqua out of Martinville, LA. This little pencil has good speed has great coverage ratings and will most likely start for the defense.
G (#22) 6'0" 308 LBS Allen Kelly out of Adamsville, AL. Allen is a soft commit and would start if he commits.
OLB (#12) 6'6" 239 LBS Nate Rhodes out of Fort Stockton, TX. Nate has great speed for his monster size and is definitely needed at the weak OLB spot for the Bearkat defense.

    3*
ATH (#66) 6'1" 177 LBS Marcus Dudley out of Hartford, CT. Marcus has the speed and ability to play corner but will have to battle for his spot.
P (#8) 6'0" 218 LBS Eric Mayhew out of Galesburg, IL. Hopefully wont need him too much but just in case, he has a decent leg.
ATH (#60) 6'3" 166 LBS Albert Gipson out of Windosr, CN. Our only international player has great speed and can play anywhere in the secondary.
ATH (#71) 5'9" 191 LBS Terry Cason out of North Highlands, CA. Terry is just like Albert and has good speed on defense.

FS Justin Alexander - A rangy safety out of California, Alexander is expected to start from day 1 79
SS Steve Taylor - The Pennsylvania native will likely fill the 2nd SS spot up for grabs in the Wolves' 4-2-5 80

    RIVERDALE RECRUITING RECAP:
    Quote
WR Marcus Vaughn: Solid Peter Warrick-style receiver looks to be third in a series of great Lancer wideouts.
WR Brian Cody: Speedster with a knack for spectacular catches.
WR James Parrish: Quick receiver with a great vertical. Will need to work on hands.
ATH Jim Williams: Solid defender with good pursuit skills will help the Lancers secondary
WR Justin Montgomery: Hell, recruiting WR's like they're going outta style. A slower version of Parrish.
ATH Andrew Jackson: Thought he was the former President, but this guy is probably better at safety.
WR Clifton Cox: We giggled at the name and gave him a scholly, but he's fast and can catch in traffic!
QB Gerald White: A passer with an above average arm , someone has to throw the damn ball to these receivers.
HB Brandon Porter: A tall balanced tailback with good vision for a young guy.
LB Mike Treangen: Fast defender who could can stick with receivers, also impossible name to spell.
OT Matt Williams: Good tackle who can pass block and run block. Not worse than our current matadors. Ole!
LB Mike Brown: Another fast coverage LB, with B+ speed he can stick with receivers and lay the lumber!
CB Donte Quinn: Fast cornerback who can't be any worse than the guys in last year's secondary.
LB Lamont Williams: Say it with me now, fast linebacker blah blah. We didn't expect ALL these LB's to sign.
LB Preston Tidwell: Fast... linebacker... coverage... Seriously, this is getting ridiculous.
OG Kevin McFadden: Strong balanced tackle who can both pass block and run block. He's got good footwork.

    SA

    Quote
    Quote
Hunter Hills is buzzing today at SA signs 25 scholarship athletes. Eight of the incoming Freshman were rated among the the 150 best by ESPNU. Remember these names--these guys are going to make an impact in the next couple of seasons:

    Cedric Prince, MLB (77)
Prince is the jewel of this years class. The Evergreen, Colorado was 1st Team All-State and is the Colorado career leader in tackles. The Colorado native lead Evergreen High to the Colorado state semi-finals three years, and lead them to a state title his Senior year. He will likely start along side Charlie Carter in the SA 3-4 defense.

    John Colbert, QB (72)
Colbert form Jolleyville Texas, was an early surprise commit for SA. He will jump into a crowded QB rotation, but coaches say he may be the best in the group RIGHT NOW. Look for him to have a chance to start. If not, he will likely red-shirt to have a full year to grasp the offense.

    Adrian Hudson, DE (73)
Hudson is quick, athletic, and explosive. He shunned USC and UCLA to head to the mountains. He's prepared to redshirt, but then will take over one of the DE spots and man it for the following four seasons.

    Zach Wiley, MLB (73)
Wiley, one of 3 MLB commits, is another star from the state of Colorado. He has rare coverage skills for a 250 pounder, and will be tried out at the SAM position. After a redshirt season, he will be ready to take over for departing Senior Adam Johnson.

    Josh Seymour, T (74)
SA invaded the south and took Josh from the backyard of the UGA Bulldogs. He will graduate early, and join the team for spring practices. Insiders tell us that he has a very good chance of starting.

    Brandon Jenkins, HB (73)
At 6'3" and over 230 lbs, Brendan has been compared favorably to Brandon Jacobs. But with several Running Backs crowding the SA backfield, Jenkins won't see any snaps this season. Look for a redshirt, and then carries along side Matt Hardy next year.

    Brendan Murphy, LOLB (75)
Murphy grew up walking distance from Fox Borough, and was a ball boy for the patriots. At an undersized 207 lbs, he would be the type of versatile player that Bill Belicheck would want. His speed will get him on the field this season at the WILL along side fellow Freshman Cedric Prince.

    Joey Pina, DT (74)
Pina had Texas #1 on his list throughout the season. But the day after his MVP performance in the Texas Class 5 state championship game, a black briefcase was seen being delivered to Pina's high school by a gentleman in a black GMC Suburban. A day later, he made a commitment to SA where he will start as as true Freshman. Pina disavows any knowledge of the briefcase.

    John Wynn, ATH/FS (73)
Wynn was being evaluated for a CB position, but after workouts, coaches are talking about the 5'11", 170 pounder as a safety. He has a good chance of cracking the two-deep at the FS spot.

    Cory Bonds, ATH/WR (74)
Bonds was an all everything performer in Elk City Oklahoma where he played QB, FS, and HB. At the college level, his 6'2" 193 frame will make him a big, physical receiver after being redshirted for a season. He's good enough to play right now, but SA is stocked with capable guys on the outside.
