Transformers: War for Cybertron (PS3, 360)

WOW. This game looks amazingly fun. I've had it preordered for awhile now, but wasn't so sure. I'm absolutely sure after watching that.

Meh. I LOVE me some Transformers, but this just looks like another bland third person shooter with Transformer skins...

I'm still interested. 360 demo hit today. PS3 users get screwed. It's on sale for $40 at Walmart Canada on June 22 and I may pick it up for that price. My brother downloaded the demo and I'm going to check it out later.

It is not ... it is absolutely not. It is a very well polished game and very fun. At least I think so, though of course everyone's mileage may vary.

Now, it may be 'bland' in some ways ... I don't have too much modern shooters experience, so I can't tell you off hand what it is like. But they did a great job of incorporating the transformations and other aspects of what makes Transformers, well, Transformers.

I know you put no stock in reviews, mors, but for others, metacritic currently has it at an 83.

The best written reviews I read yesterday were Kotaku (positive) and, actually, MTV (neutral/negative)

Haven't played online yet, but very impressed with the campaign so far.

Good to hear Jeff. Today is the last day I can pick it up for $40. I'm probably going to pass just because we bought Toy Story 3 for my son and with NCAA 11 coming out in less than 3 weeks I just won't have time to play it much. I'm not interested in the online stuff and I still think they geared the game towards that.

I hope it's not. I'm going to check it out sooner or later and see, but I don't have high hopes for it. The singleplayer stuff is incredibly short (6-8 hours total) and if I'm going to play a multiplayer shooter on the 360, it's going to be MW2 or nothing so this game pretty much does nothing for me in that department.

I'm sure that an extremely skilled player could get through the singleplayer in 6-8 hours, but there's no way I'll be even close to that. The first level alone (out of 10) on Hard difficulty took me well over an hour ... maybe close to two, I wasn't totally counting.

I picked this up today. Anyone who has it on PS3 should add me so we can get some multiplayer matches in.

    ...or play through the campaign.

I haven't been on much lately, but if you see me on IOU, chances are I'll be playing this.

I'll probably be playing this exclusively for a good while, too. It would definitely be nice to have an Escalation buddy.

This game is so much fun. It's so much better than the reviews have been saying. I haven't even started the campaigns yet because Escalation and multiplayer are so much fun. Very impressed with it so far.

Check out the blog to play War for Cybertron with an Activision employee. July 1 for PS3, July 2 for 360.

Well, I'm giving up on Transformers multiplayer. Spent 20 minutes looking for a game last night and for whatever reason couldn't find one. Instantly got in a few today, but got booted on every one. Then even Escalation quit on me. Maybe I'll try it again in the future, but getting 0 XP on a Double XP weekend certainly has me miffed.

Campaign's a blast though, and I would like to get through Escalation in a game with you, IOU, but otherwise I think I'll skip multiplayer. I'm not that good anyway.

Yeah, multiplayer is pretty much worthless because of the horrible matchmaking, connection quality, and the fact that the host quits 90% of the time resulting in a disconnection and waste of 10 minutes. Activision published it, so I can't say I'm surprised. Pity, because it truly is fun.

I thought ModNation's multiplayer was bad, but it makes Cybertron's look like simple math versus Calculus.

Funniest part about the one game I had a host disconnect was it was Escalation. The guy had gotten through like 4 waves on his own ... then three guys (including me) join. As soon as he gets taken down, before any of us can revive him, he quits.
