Amazon.com, Inc. today announced a content licensing agreement with HBO, making Prime Instant Video the exclusive online-only subscription home for select HBO programming. The collection includes award-winning shows such as The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, The Wire, Big Love, Deadwood, Eastbound & Down, Family Tree, Enlightened, Treme, early seasons of Boardwalk Empire and True Blood, as well as mini-series like Band of Brothers, John Adams and more. Previous seasons of other HBO shows, such as Girls, The Newsroom and Veep will become available over the course of the multi-year agreement, approximately three years after airing on HBO. The first wave of content will arrive on Prime Instant Video May 21. This is the first time that HBO programming has been licensed to an online-only subscription streaming service. This programming will remain on all HBO platforms.

That will be a big plus to Amazon Prime. I was shocked to see this actually happening with either Prime or Netflix. HBO has to be getting some major $ for this deal.

So it's a separate subscription to Prime? Or included? If included AWESOME. Never watched The Wire or Sopranos.

    Sounds like it's included.

“HBO has produced some of the most groundbreaking, beloved and award-winning shows in television history, with more than 115 Emmys amongst the assortment of shows coming to Prime members next month,” said Brad Beale, Director of Content Acquisition for Amazon. “HBO original content is some of the most-popular across Amazon Instant Video—our customers love watching these shows. Now Prime members can enjoy a collection of great HBO shows on an unlimited basis, at no additional cost to their Prime membership.”

The full collection now shown at Amazon

So many great shows. Outside of the normal suggestions (Sopranos, Wire, Boardwalk, Deadwood), Rome and Eastbound and Down are my two recommendations. Have not seen Carnivale, True Blood or Six Feet Under, so those will be the first to watch.

After watching The Wire, please watch Luther next. First two seasons are free on Prime and Netflix.

I just finished up the first two seasons of Luther... It was good but wasn't blown away like some people. He's just not my type of character.

That said, I do want to see season 3 once it's streaming.

The wire is absolutely must watch.

I wonder how they will handle new shows? I notice Game if Thrones isn't mentioned

As for Game of Thrones and other new shows, they are not in this agreement and could change in the future. Others are not in due to syndication.

Going to start adding a few shows to My Wishlist. I am kinda iffy on True Blood but will give it a try.

Holy shit, there is so much more than just what's above. Eastbound & Down, Big Love, Oz, Deadwood, miniseries like Band of Brothers and The Pacific.

This is a good movie of the late night wars between Leno and Letterman to replace Carson.
