On the whole strategy and what I do wrong thing, here's a question. I do quite a few formation subs with placing a near rated or a lesser rated backup in on both offense and defense. Next year, I might actually play 30 players regular depending on the set and the fact that I expect to have several position specialists. The OVR of a player may be lesser than the player whom I sub out but be better rated for a specific task such as pass rush or run stop. I have a FS that I expect to start in a year or two who will start in 4-3/3-4/5-2 but will sit out of nickel normal and all dime sets. He has good SPD, MCV, PUR, TAK, PRC and AWR, but his ZCV is low. Even if he is several points behind my BAL or COVERAGE FS, he should be better suited for those sets than the guy with C+ tackle and A-ZCV.

Is that correct, or is my use of extra players with lesser experience one of the problems I have, should I just pick the best guy on the depth chart and stick with him?

Well I think you have a couple different strategies on here. If your like Papa it's all about the OVR

You also have some that look more into ratings. I use ratings more for position changes than form subs.... Moving a G with better speed and better acc to T or vice versa. Typically I use form subs to utilize younger players or take advantage of mismatches.

While I will readily admit that you will probably score on every possession, and probably have at least one defensive score ... there's no way I'm giving you the ball enough times to roll 60.

I think you're right on the ball there. There has to be an explanation for your struggles beyond the ratings of your players, because everything you've said in this week's thread is on the money. Just looking at OVR doesn't help because there are too many things that are weighted equally in OVR (as you said, a linebacker that can cover exceptionally well but can't make a tackle doesn't help in run defense).

The only thing I can really take away from your posts is that maybe you're overthinking things just a tad. I know when I start to lose in games, I tend to pressure myself. Sometimes that works out and I come back; other times it snowballs on me and I make horrible mistakes. Maybe you suffer from the same problem?

Getting multiple guys playing time is never a problem. I've gone through several seasons where I play my second string defense for over half the game, and I believe I'll do the same for my upcoming game against UCLA. I feel that it helps stop players from transferring if you give them early playing time, even if they aren't starting.

Redshirt freshman DE Jonathan Johnson says hi :p

I have started plenty of people that weren't the highest overall at the position. Off the dome....CB Michael Carter, FB Cody Anderson, SS Brian Amos, OLB Aaron Benson, RG Michael Guerrero last season....paid off big-time looking at those guys now (all generated recruits except OLB Benson)

USC takes down #9 Oklahoma in L.A.

Good game, ID. Had some lag issues that we overcame with some well timed pauses and overall it was a sloppy game. 2 picks early really set the tone of the game and had the Sooners playing from behind.

I'm pissed as I could get the full highlight of maybe the most amazing run i've seen. OU RB Clay took a pitch and was being gang tackled by 4 maybe 5 Trojans, steps out of that and breaks I think another double tackle and rumbles for 66 yards. I could only catch the end of it in the highlights so couldn't post it.

That run was absolutely incredible and gave our team a little bit of confidence to not let us get spanked any worse. That run was on third down too, when Clay got gang-tackled, I thought no way but I kept trying to push him through and he somehow broke free, broke free again and then sprinted down the sidelines for that score.. that was probably one of the best runs I've seen on NCAA '11.. a Heisman-esque run.

It's hard to win against a user with a 43 OVR QB, and even harder when he leaves the game with injury for a little bit. Clay was the lone star of the offense last night.
