MIAMI -- Usually, LeBron James is the one who gets mobbed by adoring basketball fans. On Friday, the role was reversed when the league's three-time MVP broke away from a timeout huddle during Friday's 110-88 win over the Detroit Pistons to rush the court and congratulate a fan who won $75,000 for making a half-court shot.

James couldn't contain his excitement when he ran up to Michael Drysch, a 50-year-old computer technician, moments after the awkward hook shot he launched splashed through the nets at AmericanAirlines Arena.

"That was awesome, man," James said. "I was excited for him. When he wound up like that, I was like, 'Oh no, there's no way.' And then when I saw it in the air, I was like, 'Oh, that's got a chance.' I was happy to be a part of that."
Drysch collapsed to the ground underneath James as the two embraced. Drysch won the money from the LeBron James Family Foundation, which flew Drysch from Illinois after he was selected from a drawing.

"It's a great way to meet somebody like that," Drysch said as he was presented the oversized check. "I had no idea he was coming over to me like that. That was amazing. What a great feeling to experience something like this."

Drysch said he had been practicing the shot the past two days and only made it once during his workouts. He received a tip from a friend in the arena tunnel as he was warming up to take the shot.

"They told me to put some spin on the ball, and get it up there as high as I could," Drysch said. "I had made that shot something like 1 percent of the time in my life."

James spent several moments on the court congratulating Drysch before he returned to the Heat's huddle to prepare for the start of the fourth quarter.

Heat guard Dwyane Wade scored a team-high 29 points Friday, but said Drysch hit the biggest shot of the game.

"That was an unbelievable shot," Wade said. "We might need to sign him and bring him back for late-game situations."

Shot to cost fan $22K in taxes

With a half-court hook shot, Michael Drysch has gone from an average computer technician in the Midwest to a viral Internet sensation.

The 50-year-old from McHenry, Ill., swished a shot Friday night at the Miami Heat game as part of a promotion with lip balm brand Carmex and the LeBron James Family Foundation. He won $75,000 for himself and the Boys & Girls Club of America.

Drysch got tackled by James after the shot went in, but the government also will tackle his $75,000 prize.

"A lot of people don't realize: You don't win what you win," said Robert Raiola, an accountant with FMRTL in Cranford, N.J., whose clients include athletes.

It's not something Drysch was unaware of. When asked Friday night on NBA TV what he would do with the money, Drysch responded, "Give the government half."

Well, at least it won't be that much.

Drysch's prize is a lump sum based on that $75,000 number, but IRS regulations stipulate that 25 percent of the prize must be withheld for federal income tax.

That leaves Drysch with a check of $56,250.

Then consider the fact that he is a resident of Illinois, which will take out a 5 percent state tax on the prize, regardless of income.

    His winnings now are $52,770.

A representative for Carmex confirmed the basic accounting.

Whether Drysch will owe any more in tax will depend on how much he earns in 2013.

He'll get some of that back based on the tax bracket that it puts him in including his normal job salary. He'll probably end up paying something like 15k in the end instead of 22k.

FUCK. Rondo out for the season with a torn ACL. He was a double double and triple double machine this year, set to start his first All-Star game.

Avery Bradley will be called on to step up. There are rumors that they may try to trade for Lowry in Toronto; which I'd love.

No trade is going to get them into the playoffs. They'll be VERY lucky to get an 8 seed now. It's time to trade Pierce and Garnett and build the team around Rondo in the next year and half.

Even though I think Bosh is a whiny bitch who plays for the hated Heat. I must give him props for his photobombing. This was at the White House.

I never have liked the Celtics but I hate to see anyone go down with an injury. Hopefully Rondo can come back next season and not miss a beat.

Howard is not only a douche, he's a lazy piece of shit that thinks he should get paid, be the star of the team, and not put in ANY work at all. Fuck him.

No! That's a TERRIBLE idea. He's been slumping HARD ever since his rookie season.
