I'm guilty of that. It wasn't obvious to me, until my launch PS3 YLOD'd, how little air flow was going through it. Not like a PC, where I knew exactly what was going on internally (how many fans I had, internal temp, etc).
My friend's 360 RROD'd when I was trying to install a Guitar Hero that was failing to play from the disc to her HD. It was on the carpet, but I don't think that was the cause. I think it was just a freak thing.
It's probably poor memory management. Since the PS3 has so little on-board memory, it's probably struggling to keep the memory locations in cache.
Look at what just showed up:

I can't wait to begin wanting to smash my own face in while playing God of War III in whatever they call their hardest mode.
By the way, I love these collections. I'm probably going to end up having most of them since I never got around to playing a lot of them when they were released individually.
Nice may have to get this. Love the GOW series.
Of course I am fan of Greek Mythology anyway
How do you quit from Madden on PS3 then? I ended up swapping copies because my stupid 360 wont stay connected to my WiFi anymore, and every time I quit the game it quadruple x 12 beeps my PS3 until it turns off.
Yeah, JB, 90% of my PS2 gaming was good ol' NCAA Football. The other 10% was the amazing SOCOM II.
You were missing out. Glad to hear you picked it up ... personally I think the Ratchet & Clank series was the best first-party series on PS2, and the PS3 series upped the ante. If R&C had come out (and been technically feasible) on the PS1, I think Rachet (or Clank) would be the PS mascot.
Yes, I'm a huge, undeniable fanboi of the series.
I saw you said that, but wasn't totally sure you were talking about it ... just because I didn't get the Mega Man connection. Now that I think about it, it makes sense. And yeah, the humor is the best. And it's only gotten better as the years have gone by. I'm definitely looking forward to playing the HD collection and replaying Crack in Time.
I've only played a Crack in Time and I had a blast with that so I'm sure I'll be picking up that collection once I'm done with God of War. Sony is genius for releasing these collections. I almost creamed my pants when they announced the original Killzone in HD with trophy support and I'm looking forward to that coming out next month more so than I am any other game in the foreseeable future. If they really want to impress me, give me a SOCOM collection with 1 & 2 with a HD overhaul, trophies, and then online for S2 WITHOUT MESSING WITH IT. I've heard rumors of them doing something involving the past SOCOM games, especially recently, so my fingers are crossed.
I would be willing to seriously buy a PS3 if they released a SOCOM HD collection. I still have SOCOM and SOCOM II sitting in a box somewhere. My PS2 is still hooked up and sitting on top of my DVD player. I may have to hunt down SOCOM II sometime and relive some of the past spent playing it.
Well I don't want to start a conspiracy theory, but all signs are pointing to an imminent remake. I follow SOCOM very closely and while it once appeared that the stars would have to align to get Sony to realize how much everyone loves the old SOCOM games, it appears they're starting to align.
On the Blog.Share where people share what they want, SOCOM I and II remakes have been at the top since the beginning of the program. Items like God of War and Ico remakes were on the list but behind SOCOM and they got made, so it makes you think Sony does actually listen to that feedback. Shortly after Zipper Interactive was shut down, one of the old employees of the team made an account on the SOCOM forums and posted about how they were basically forced to create a Call of Duty clone with S4 by Sony. When asked whether they were looking at an HD remake while he was there, he very clearly stated Sony had begun looking at the code for a possible remake months prior.
A few months after the closing of Zipper Interactive, the Sony President literally said "SOCOM is not dead" and that was only a few months ago.
Then when Sony made a blog post about the recently announced "Playstation Collections," one of the users asked about a possible collection with the old SOCOM games. Not only did he get a response, but it was a juicy little cryptic response:

Thanks for the heads up Cristian ! I’ll be sure to play these! Theres far to much focus on realism and graphics now days! Its great to be able to have that old school gameplay back! Its would be awesome to get a HD SOCOM US NAVY SEALS! The new socoms just dont even compare to the amazing gameplay of socom 1 and 2! Are there any plans for this Cristian? Thanks in advance!

I couldn’t tell you, even if I knew. We will have more to add to this line, though. That’s all I can say =)
As if all these recent comments/events weren't enough, just last month Sony FINALLY shut down the servers for all the PS2 SOCOM games right on the 10th anniversary of the first game. Like I said, I very well could be wrong, but it seems as though the stars are aligning to me.
Sweet. Yeah, after listening to the peanut gallery all summer about how I should buy a PS3 because of the sports games, SOCOM and SOCOM II alone would convince me to buy one. I could not even possibly try to count the hours and hours and hours I spent playing those games back in the day.
Anyone ever heard of Tokyo Jungle? It comes out this Tuesday on PSN and if you haven't heard of it, look it up. It's one of those games that I shouldn't care about but do because of how stupid/weird it sounds. :D
Are there jungles in Tokyo?
