fool stamps? :fp:
Don't try too hard to sound like elitist. Not everyone on food stamp is a fool or a mooch.
All Reps/Conservatives are just elitist 1%ers that's how we get roughly 1/2 the vote give or take every election.
True but a BIG % of them are. See any "Man on the Street" video at/near unemployment line.
EDIT: Apparently our "Fool Stamp" lady with the "Obama Phone" is a paid SEIU thug being driven around the country to protest Romney Ryan rallies.
Wait how is someone makin' that cash $ gettin' the free Obama phone and free Fool Stamps?
No, but a lot of them are. Many of those are people who would prioritize spending money on drugs instead of food. You want to cut a lot of the problem do mandatory drug testing for anyone on a government program. Fail the drug test and lose the benefits.
Our country is giving out too many damn fish and not enough fishing poles.
Soo that is what people have to worry about how they are viewed when they need assistance?
Glad my Mother didn't have to otherwise she would have been viewed as a drug addict taking benefits.
Though I do agree the system is being abused as I know some people of both races who did or currently still do. Neither are on drugs though.
Yeah people SHOULD worry how they are viewed when they REQUIRE the government to give them "freebies" to survive. If that isn't a clear sign that something has/is going terribly WRONG in your life I don't know what would/does.
Look lots of people legitimately need help (i.e. the TRULY mentally physically disabled not the I have a hang nail so I am filing for disability). I have ZERO problems helping out the truly needy but there is no way in hell that roughly 1/2 the country is TRULY mentally/physically not capable of holding down a job.
Bottom line, IF "we" lose this election Obama is going to either immediately drive us into a depression or the depression will follow shortly after. NO society can survive with the debt we have and when over 1/2 the country is in the bag for wanting/needing more government help.
Buy your food and guns now before its too late...
So you have to be mentally and physically disabled to need help? Thats the only way?
Growing up my Mom and I could have used help, shes neither physically or mentally disabled. Shit was rough growing up and doing without. Instead of taking "help" because she figured there was always someone else out there who needed it more than us...she never took any. You can so pride, stubbornness or whatever but she never did. Simply got a 2nd job AND even still that didn't no way completely cover things that were needed like owning a vehicle, always having food or preventing disconnections of services, etc.
I had friends Mothers that needed and did take help. Majority of times that I've witnessed it, it was in single-parent situations.
but guess neither truly needed it since they weren't disabled in some way.
Just a hunch, but I highly doubt I'll need to rush out to horde food and guns.
Skip, I agree with you that some folks need help. I however do not believe it is the role of government to take by force from one and give to another. Charity is not charity if it is forced. Big government has destroyed the family unit and due to its massive size most are not left with enough to be "charitable" to strangers.
Sounds to me like your mother did it RIGHT and worked hard and relied upon herself and not the government to determine her outcome in life. We are ALL born equal (i.e. we all have opportunity to PURSUE happiness) but we will NOT ALL end up the same (i.e. we are NOT guaranteed happiness). Believe it or not my life growing up probably wasn't all that much different from yours.
However, I was taught to rely on myself and that if I work hard AND smart (note just b/c you work hard doesn't guarantee you anything in life you have to make intelligent decisions as well) you can become/do anything you want. My wife was very similar situation growing up "lower middle class" and now we are EVIL 1%s in our early 30s.
The scenario isn't as far fetched as you think it is. We are basically Europe but only a few years away from the problem. When the US debt crisis comes there is going to be nowhere to hide and the government will be forced to RAISE taxes and CUT the dependency programs (medicare; medicade; social security are ALL basically ponzi schemes just waiting to go broke) all the while the economy/stock market collapses. The "47%" will riot (how dare you take away my free Obama phone, flat screen, food and health care!) and mass chaos will ensue. Anyone that has saved/prepared will need to protect themselves from the losers and need supplies to survive off of.
But even still it shouldn't be looked at as wrong that people that really need the help and aren't disabled, take it. You can work your hardest and still come up short. That goes for anything in life.
IMO my Mother or anyone else in similar or worse situations shouldn't be looked at as in the wrong. My wife and her 3 siblings grew up the same as I did, which is why my wife and I get along so well because we literally had similar early life experiences. For example to this day neither of us can eat certain things (Ramon noodles, pork and beans) because we've probably ate upwards of $100,000 in both growing up.
Now I will say this, and my wife and I have discussed it plenty of times. She stays at home with our son since he's been born 2 years ago. I make pretty good money to pay our bills, but it does get tough at times. She started using coupons 3 years ago to help and it has made a difference (not that silly crap you see on coupon crazy or whatever the show is called). She has said that people on food stamps should have a shopping plan or some sort of the things that they can only buy. I see alot of times people with a cart full of junk food and that's it. Nothing that you would say could make a meal or let alone that should be feed all to the kids. And even possibly have to use coupons for things to atleast show that you are trying to make an effort.
I think we can both agree on some of the things dealing with government help. I too don't like seeing the system abused, while others are working hard or the ones that really need it can't get it.
This disagreement between real conservatives and moderates to liberals is the who "really needs the help" from GOVERNMENT. From what you described your mom didn't "really" need help at least from a conservative perspective. As described, she is perfectly physically/mentally capable of supporting herself and her family and through hard work some smart decisions she will likely better her life and the life of her family.
Nor did my mother who worked a full-time job during the day (as well as some part time jobs of cleaning houses and selling makeup) while going to school at night to better her/her family's life to become a school teacher.
A "conservative" would view it as belittling/demeaning to my mom/your mom to give them help from the GOVERNMENT that they "really" didn't need. Again, people are free to do what they want with their own money on their own (i.e. "charity").
The second disagreement is becoming bigger and bigger and it is the IDEA that we are all entitled to EQUAL OUTCOMES in life regardless of the choices made and the various levels of talent someone has. Liberals believe in this Utopia that we should all just share all the money and spread the wealth around equally and live in peace and harmony. Of course, it all sounds grand until reality comes into play and proves/shows that if you give ZERO incentive to do great things great things will NEVER happen. We NEED unequal outcomes in life b/c otherwise society will NEVER advance otherwise.
Another reason to take the conservative view is that private charities are much better/efficient at helping others than the government. (1) it is MUCH easier to trick/defraud the HUGE government than it is to trick/defraud a local group of volunteers - i.e. they can determine the moochers from the honest/decent people that just need some temporary help; (2) private charities can ensure that the help they give doesn't become an addiction/dependency better than the HUGE government.
IF I didn't pay the amount of taxes I currently pay for such government programs. I could actually HIRE someone who most likely isn't in as good of shape financially as I currently am to clean my place; mow my yard; etc... The amount of taxes I pay for these dependency programs would pay for at least one (and probably more) full time workers to do things that my busy schedule makes it a "pain" for me to do.
Both races? There are only two now? What do the races have to do with anything? Are you making the assumption I am selecting a certain demographic in my comments? Just look at Greece and Spain, two completely different groups of race that have been spoiled by entitlement based societies.
Here is a little thought for you to ponder over. People sure have to worry about it when they are looking for a JOB, even most GOVERNMENT jobs. You go out looking for a job and most companies drug test to screen out drug addicts, they tend to be on the bottom tier of quality employees. Why is it wrong for the Government to do the same in regards to assistance? Why should anyone's tax dollars be used to support someones drug addiction?

Nope I made the comment because I personally know a few people from two races that benefit from the system. I personally can't speak for any other race outside of those because I do not personally know of someone in said race doing so.
My statement had nothing to do with assumption from your post.
And I agree there should be stricter pre-qualifications.
It seems apparently easy and has been for some time. Have a child/children=get things paid for. Girl I knew had a simple plan 10 years ago, in fact she told me in a jokingly manner "guess I need to have a child to get things"......well shortly after saying that she had a child...got a nice place to live for basically pennies and got her education paid for. Not only that but pretty sure she got money after getting out of the government funded program...nice piece of change from what I hear of that program doing. That plan seemed to be by any means necessary...which was why I wasn't dumb enough to fall for being a part of it.
Despite cases such as those there are still people who need help and are not on drugs or mentally/physically disabled.
NO!
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.
Our problem is our Government is only concerned with continuing to give mentally/physically "normal" people "free fish" and isn't forcing/teaching/training them to learn how to fish for themselves.
When one does it it allows people to rely 100% on the government and occupy themselves "doin' blow" or just mooching around on the couch watching cable tv on their 60" flat panel and calling up their friends on their Obama phone.
FOX News likes to show live suicides, is there some sort of a tie-in here? :D
