CBS Sports asked on Facebook if this was a home run hire. First comment "home run for Wisconsin" :D

That was my source... our local scout guy who doesn't want to say anything without reliable information to back it up. Supposedly now though the local paper is saying not so fast.
Regardless, last year was a gut punch. This is a nut punch. Malzahn went on record, in front of a packed Little Rock media session and said "those that are saying I'm going to leave after a year don't know me very well". That combined with everything he's done to get donors to buy in, fans to buy in (set a single game attendance record this past week... in December!)... it's going to be a hard row to hoe for the next coach to get fans to trust him. I just hope whoever it is doesn't have Jimmy Sexton for an agent.
:(
Damn it Gus. Why ya gotta lie about how long you're gonna be there? :smh:
No... ours is a different guy. That guy might be at Auburn or something don't know.
Yes. He said he's going to make us the Boise of the south. Buckle up because he's going to take us to the next level. New nickname for his is Gushole or Todd Graham of the Sun Belt.
ESPN is now reporting Malzahn to Auburn citing their usual "multiple sources"
Steve Addazio (Temple HC) will be the next coach at Boston College.
This.
Sorry, G. But, this is exactly what I was talking about when I mentioned Saban and the Dolphins when you quoted Gus a couple weeks ago. Smooth is right, ASU is a stepping stone at this point and I can imagine that that is VERY frustrating as a fan. Hopefully your next hire sticks around and continues the building process.

Yeah... certainly understandable and I would have expected it myself had he not said things that were more than just coach speak. At least Freeze never made any promises... Malzahn made all kinds of promises and then turned around and shat on them. If I were a coach in the SEC, I'd play that video about him being here more than a year over and over for them. Christian man of character my ass.
What pisses me off the most is that he's not even leaving for the money. He's making right at twice as much as he was here which IMO isn't enough. He could have been Arkansas State's FBS Bear Bryant (we have our FCS version in Larry Lacewell) and been a god had he just stayed for ever three years. Instead he leaves to a place where he'll just be the next Tommy Tuberville IF he's successful.
Funny enough, we play them next year... if it hadn't been Malzahn I would have thought we'd have an excellent shot at beating them and an excellent shot at 12-0 (other OOC are Memphis, Idaho, & UAPB). Hopefully Kingsbury is signed up quickly and continues on with our success.
I feel terrible for Arkansas State's fanbase. :( WVU knows all to well what it's like to have someone lie about their intentions and watch them be flushed down the toilet when the prettier offer comes waving in their faces. It's only a matter of time before it happens again with Holgorsen.
I understand being upset but, realistically, this is what coaches do. They have a competitive itch that can never be scratched and are always looking for "the next challenge" or a way to inflate their ego. Saban would be a God at LSU but he wanted to inflate his ego, so he went to the NFL. Only because he failed is he now a God at Alabama. Spurrier, was the same at Florida. It's why that Bret B. left Wisconsin (which is just as good a job as Arkansas, maybe even better). If he can win in the SEC (which he won't), then he'll be "the new hotness." It's also why people at Southern Miss are all over Bobby Petrino right now. We know he's going to leave for something better first chance he gets so we might as well use each other in the short term and win while we can.
No coach should be "looking for the next challenge" after just one season with a team, especially after all the talk about putting Arkansas State back on the map and all that shit. He just got all those kids on that team to believe in something that was a lie and he did a disservice to them and to the fans of that team.
Normal stepping stone stuff is leaving after 3-5 years, not 1 season. :smh:
No man should cheat on his wife.
No American should be looking for handouts from the government.
No kid should be passed to the next grade if they can't read and write at the appropriate level.
Things that shouldn't happen but do anyway. That's just how it is.
The amount of money in the football program and facilities is significantly higher at Arkansas. Plus, after three consecutive Rose Bowls, any other result would be a disappointment. Better to leave when your star is brightest.Quote:
