WOW!
USA WINS!
Rough day for Russia. Men lose to the US, and women get knocked out of the quarterfinals of their tournament by Switzerland.
I watched pretty much all of the Canada-Russia women's curling today... I just felt like I needed to support these atheletes... :D
I'm watching the replay of USA v. Russia on NBCSN. Even though I know the result, this is still awesome to actually watch.

Playoff qualifiers are done.
I wasn't surprised that Slovenia beat Austria, just that Austria failed to even show up. I did think Austria was the slightly better team.
Russia winning? No surprise. The surprise is how close Norway kept it. Yeah the final was 4-0 but it was 2-0 with about a minute to go and one of those first two goals was tough luck for the Norwegians. Russia better play ALOT better tomorrow against Finland. Finland is capable of winning Gold and I won't be surprised if they make the Gold Medal Game.
The two late games were good, close games. Slovakia fought back to give the Czech Republic a good run but CR won it. Not surprised by that result.
The stunner was Latvia over Switzerland. Jonas Hiller had been brilliant for the Swiss but their lack of offense eventually took them out. I really thought the Swiss would get by and give Canada fits like the did in 2006 and 2010.
Time to turn my attention to the UEFA Champions League for the rest of the day. :)
The early quarterfinal game was a 5-0 win for Sweden over Slovenia. Slovenia had just 1 NHL player (Anze Kopitar) while Sweden has just 1 player that isn't an NHLer. It was actually interesting for about 45 minutes and was just 1-0 going to the third period. The Swedes just wore down Slovenia in the third.
Time for a quick nap and then get up and watch Russia and Finland. I like the Fins in that game, but it can easily go to Russia. Should be a good one!
Kimmo Timonen said after the Fins beat Russia. "I'm going to go have a couple beers. That's for sure"
Damn, I was really hoping for that Gold Medal rematch. No way would it have been as good as that first game, but it still would have been one hell of a Gold Medal game.
My country, tits of thee.
