I don't see how that field can be safe. It's black like that, it's going to be 130 degrees on the field in September.

if its been approved, its been approved for a multitude of reasons and through a bunch of people.
the black and heat thing is a unimportant myth and at least 60% of the field is grey anyway.
I fthere was some problem with black jerseys or fields and it being considered a health factor /problem..the Raiders wouldnt exist anymore and no team would get black alternate jerseys LOL
..its believed to be fake though....?
On the Maryland mock-up....minus the 'shell turf,' it matches the new design they put in for last season so I'm assuming someone is just having some fun with photoshop.
However, they are currently putting in new Field Turf in Byrd Stadium, so that appears to be the origin of the rumor. Isn't that the old Apple font on the field numbers though?
You've got to be shitting me.
There is a massive, significant, mind-boggling-that-you-equated-the-two difference between wearing a black jersey and playing on a black surface. Especially a black surface filled with rubber pellets.
You do understand how heat absorption works, right? At least the main principles? And you get that there's a reason why you're not as hot when wearing a black shirt as, say, a black car is?
Definitely looks like a very computer font. But even a real rendition would probably use a basic font at some point. Most likely fake though.
LOL thats asphalt..that has nothing to with this..the point is mute..no one will ever do an all black field and there isnt enough black in the fake mock that would hurt anyone anyway LOL
that said, some/ a few in the next year or 2 may start will start to jazz up their fields.. I mean other than the lower division schools who have already...like something just in the whole areas marked in the 20 to 25 yard line on both sides or something...?

:bang:
black rubber and a huge black surface, though, will respond in a similar fashion to what asphalt will. it wont be as hot as asphalt, but it'll still be a 20+ degree increase from the air temperature.
players already suffer from heat exhaustion on practice fields with both artificial and natural playing surfaces. you're just asking for trouble if you tried to practice on a black/dark colored surface.

That looks good.
wow. big improvment.
Based on the Heisman Challenge pics posted yesterday it appears Houston's new logo and
field art are "in the game".

The athletic department's media relations has contacted me, let me know at this time no final decision has been made on the color of the field. I asked if they were considering on changing the color at all and was told the following:
"Don't know the final details on color yet... No final decision has been made...
Yes, the surface will be synthetic, rather than grass... Will be finished in time for the home opener on 9/1."
It seems as though a color change is being considered and we will know what the final decision is in the upcoming months.
