For complete functionality of the PSN.. over. I think some things will be back up way before then though.

Google Chrome coming to PSN when it is back up in 2020?
http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/...n-psn-back-up/
Honestly, since they've turned off my access to having wireless internet in my dorm room, this PSN down mess hasn't really affected me. But I'll be back home in a week with nothing to do for 2 weeks, and with Brink I was really looking forward to playing it online.
Seems crazy to think it would take that long to get it back up and secure.
From all indications, it's going to be the opposite. I think they're a lot more worried about securing the Store than they are about securing online play. Plus there's probably a lot more to secure, obviously.
The general thinking lately is that we'll see a slow rollout of returning services, starting with PSN Online Play. The Store is expected to be the last thing that comes back.
If you think about it, of the two, not having Online Play is significantly more of a long-term cost to Sony (because of all the people that would jump to XBL to play their friends) than not having the Store. Only so many people would swap because they're desperate for certain DLC.
Plus one here Jeff great point, just be nice to get back online and start playing again. I miss powerhouse dynasty haha
Wow, this is crossing over from "ridiculous" to "asinine."
I think they should just give daily tidbits of information and updates about the status and quit putting a time frame on something that they themselves seem unsure about. It would keep people from getting so touchy about the situation (well some it might anyways .....:D:D)
There's no preventing the touchiness of the situation anymore. As I said before, this is, by far, the worst, most mishandled situation I've ever seen for an online service outage ever. It's getting on being a month (only 12 more days if I remember correctly when it went out) without being able to log on at all with a PSN device. It's getting to the point where Sony will be losing customers forever now. This type of mismanagement is just beyond acceptable. When you have games coming out that are really only playable online, not having that service pretty much makes that system useless now doesn't it?
Agreed. What they should have done is:
#1 come out and explain that they are completely having to rebuild the network to secure our identity/safety and explain that they are working very hard but there is no time table and PSN will not be back up until Sony can solve/fix the problem(s)
#2 have a seperate person come out and say due to the undetermined length of the suspension of PSN we are giving all PSN users.... and all PSN+ users ....
#3 say NOTHING until PSN is 100% going to be back online and state when it will be online and what we need to do to get our "free" stuff.
It does suck that this situation hasn't been handled correctly at all, but I also realize that they seem to be taking (or so it appears) drastic measures to ensure the safety of us users. In the end had they given us faster information about the breach of our identities and given us less time frames this whole situation wouldn't "feel" as bad.
I'm sure some may leave to go over to XBox Live, but I bet that number is exaggerated as well.
You mean like those people that would "NEVER" buy a Toyota again after the break recall and/or the people that would "NEVER" buy a GM product again after the bail out?
Note, I was/am one of the GM people and I did in fact buy a Honda Pilot with the Cash for Clunkers Program ($3500 for my 1999 Blazer with 300,000 + miles on it and worth probably $500 when I traded it in).
So yes there are SOME people that Sony will lose b/c of this. However, the vast majority will return. See GM and Toyota #1 and #2 car manufacturers in the world STILL despite their recent PR fiascos.
For whatever reason this PSN problem hasn't driven me to the I'm going to MS yet. However, if something further crazy happens I COULD see myself switching to the 720 when the next generation of consoles come out.
I'm the opposite. I don't care, I won't leave Sony because someone took down their system. I've driven Toyotas nearly all my life, been the most reliable car I've ever had. 200,000 miles with no maintenance done to them and they won't die. Not to mention the feds proved most of that was driver error...
I don't play online anyone so this hasn't affected me any outside of checking out the store on Tuesdays.
Yep that's pretty much what I'm thinking CLW.
