Ah, I misunderstood. You're right, you're not going to get the speed. You said that you "get a connection", and I thought you meant to PSN. My bad.

PSN will be down today.

PlayStation Corporate Communications and Social Media Director Patrick Seybold described the outage as a "significant PSN maintenance period" that'll last from "just after noon Pacific" until about 2 a.m. Monday, March 5th. During the outage, you won't be able to sign in, use PSN-enabled websites, play games online or access the PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home and account management.

I am happy. Happy, happy, happy, happy, happy, happy, happy, happy, happy, happy!

Three Platinums? Yes please. Glad Deadlocked isn't part of it, though the multiplayer in Up Your A really sucked.Quote:
Ratchet and Clank HD Collection Confirmed
Featuring multiplayer, Trophies and 3D compatibility.
The disc will include Ratchet & Clank, Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, and Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal. Developer Idol Minds is remastering the collection that will include 1080p graphics, 3D support, and three Platinum Trophies. The "online competitive multiplayer" from Up Your Arsenal will also be included.
Unlike the original rumor, Price says that the collection is coming to the North America in the fall and to Europe in the spring.
Stoked for that!
Dust 514 is a Glimpse of the Future
I. Can't. Wait. For this game.Quote:
Imagine you and a squad of friends are engaged in a Conquest-esque match on the surface of an alien planet, dropping onto the ground near a mining facility that you must capture under heavy resistance from the opposing team. You choose your loadout, pick a spawn point, and call in a couple of vehicles as support, which are presently delivered by dropships. You hop into the tank, gather your team, and move in for the attack. This is something you might have done hundreds of times before. It's hardly a revelation.
But now imagine that this is all taking place in a connected universe: the weapons in your inventory and the tank that you're driving have all been manufactured by someone, somewhere, from elements mined from asteroids by someone else. They've made their way across the galaxy in a cargo fleet, and have been delivered to you by yet another player waiting in their spaceship in near orbit. If you succeed in that mission and capture the mining facility, you get paid and you win the match – but someone, somewhere, just lost their property, and the person up in that spaceship who hired you for the job now has another planet under their command. They might be the CEO of a large peaceful coalition, or they could be the head of a ruthless corp. You might know who they are. You might not.
This is Dust 514, and it is a glimpse at the future of connected gaming.
Damn, Jeff. I'm not much for Star Wars-esque games, but this sounds like the type of game that could cause a person to drop out of society. Very, very interesting.

As far as the shooter goes, it should be much, much closer to a futuristic version of Battlefield (i.e. Mass Effect or Halo) than anything Star Wars-y. The greater universe is obviously sci-fi, but the battlefield, from what I've seen of the game, is much more just amped up war.

EDIT: The game was playable for the first time at EVE's Fanfest event this month. These guys have never played the game before, and are normally MMO players (not FPS players). And it shows, lol.

Damn, damn, damn. Why does it have to be PS3 only? :(
Most commonly rumored reason (may have been a quote somewhere, not sure) is that Microsoft wasn't willing to allow what CCP wanted to do onto the XBL network. Same reason why Portal 2's Steamworks stuff is only on PS3. Might also have something to do with microtransactions, not sure.
It's a great idea, but MAG left a really bad taste in my mouth of how hard a shooter based on MMO principles will fail when the player count starts to dwindle, so I'm not even going to mess with it. When it comes to PS3 exclusive shooters, they all bomb at release or are completely dead within 3 months.
MAG was an amazing game that died solely because of the lack of population, and I have no doubt that's going to happen with this, which is unfortunate because it looks and sounds awesome.
Doesn't matter, MAG was free to play up until a certain level and it was still dead within a few months. MAG was legitimately free, too, unlike this which is heavily reliant on microtransactions, which is going to be a huge turn off to competitive players. I also don't think they'll like the idea of the world still continuing once they turn their game off.
To me, it's not worth getting into a game only to be unable to find a game a few months after launch whether it's free or $60. Hopefully I'm wrong and it is a bigger success than MAG.
You'll play it. Just as certainly as you'll update the Trophy Whore thread every month.
Wait.
:D Exactly. You've been doing a good job, though. I'll get it updated for April, you just watch.
If I were to play this game I think it would make me want to give EVE a try haha. Do you have to have a pretty bad ass computer for it?
I didn't even update it for March, 'cause you didn't respond to my goading :P
EVE? Nah. It has a wide range of settings that can be changed pretty drastically. The only thing you have to be particularly careful of is that sometimes your settings can prevent you from participating in some of the larger events (like fleet-sized battles). But that's not a problem for the people (like myself) who don't really want to participate in those events anyway.
Though, obviously, if you can max it out, the game looks gorgeous.

Regular maintenance is a necessary part of operating a service such as PSN. As part of our efforts to continue to deliver you a world-class online entertainment experience on your PS3 and PS Vita devices, we will be performing maintenance on the network on Thursday, May 24th, starting at approximately 8:00 am PDT / 10:00 am EDT and concluding around 11:00pm PDT / 2:00am EDT.
During this maintenance period, you may receive a message that states “PlayStation Network is undergoing maintenance” when attempting to access the PlayStation Store or PlayStation Home. Online play will not be affected and you will be able to enjoy apps such as Netflix and Amazon Instant Video during this maintenance as well, provided that you have signed into the network within 5 days prior to the start of the maintenance period.

Sony thought about download-only console... changed their mind
http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/30/re...ght-better-of/
I won't support a download-only console concept until they open up the market and allow competition. If Sony (or the third-party publisher) has control over the price point, we won't see half the deals we have now.
IGN: Apply for the Dust 514 Beta
( Apparently, when I signed up back in May, it didn't actually go through. Suck! )
$40 is a nice starting price. It'll drop to $20 for Black Friday season I bet. I'll get it then.
Will it work for all racing games, or just Move supported? I imagine the latter, but just checking.
No idea... but here's a video I didn't watch and an article I didn't read.

E3 2012: IGN preview of Dust 514
Quote:
E3 2012: Dust 514, the Deepest FPS You’ve Ever Played
The immersion begins with the obscene amount of customization available for each player. Describing these customization features as mere “loadouts” wouldn’t do Dust 514 its due justice, because in reality, it goes so far beyond picking a primary and secondary weapon and some perks. From curative devices and explosives to the creation and customization of all manner of vehicle, customization permutations are virtually endless. And most interestingly, all items are “real,” meaning that if you lose a vehicle in battle, you lose it for good. If your character dies during a firefight with a certain assault rifle equipped, that assault rifle disappears. So you better buy a bunch of them.
The economic reality of eventually losing everything means that teamwork on the ground is far more than just organic. It’s outright necessary if you want to successfully complete contracts for EVE Online players while earning enough money to supplement anything you lost and perhaps even turn a profit (though it’s worth noting that player-versus-environment contracts can also be garnered to buff out needed funds). In this sense, Dust 514 creates a climate of economic ramifications. Respawning on a map to give it another go isn’t simply a matter of pressing the X button and waiting 10 seconds, but rather having the necessary funds to purchase the pertinent items needed to outfit your character for success.
I'm pretty sure that with PS3 system updates I can download them to a computer and then transfer them to the PS3. Anyone know if this is also possible for game updates. It doesn't ask that option when I try to get the update. It's for the massive Bf3 patch.
Not unless you want to try all of these steps in setting up your PC as a proxy server....
http://www.ps3blog.co.za/2009/05/18/...s-via-your-pc/
Otherwise, it's not as cut and dry as the system updates unfortunately.
Another option is to get PS+ it donwloads and installs the patches automatically for you once a day at a time you set (i.e. mine is 10am to sync trophies, download patches, upload saves to the cloud, etc.)
