That's fine except for the fact that Madden is exponentially better than NCAA year in and year out, and not only that, but they often actually fix issues that deal with game play in their patches. Last year they tightened up the zone coverage and increased the pass rush which made for a world of difference. The lone difference here: the Madden team develops for the hardcore player while the NCAA team uses dreads, cannons, and graphic upgrades to appeal to the casual audience.
That said, they're actually getting closer to matching the great game play that existed on PS2. The reason they get hammered so much is their own fault. They made GREAT games on PS2, so they're expected to do much of the same this generation, which they have yet to do. I'd say they're close this year, but it still needs a good bit of tweaking before it matches the quality of the PS2 game play. If I had to guess, I'd say next year's version is going to be pretty solid. This year's is as well, but it's just missing too many things and too many things don't work the way they should.
