I stumbled upon a classic that I played the hell out of back in the day...
Betrayal at Krondor - $6 at GoG
From 1994, it was essentially a predecessor to Oblvion/Skyrim. When you walked around, you did so in a first-person mode but then when you stumbled on an enemy, you were put into a grid-style, turn-based combat system. Obviously by today's standards it's graphics are awful but I'd still recommend it. I'm debating on buying it... I haven't played it in forever.
I was intrigued, until I saw that it was a weird 45 degree angle view of the "grid" instead of a top down or Gold Box game style. :(
Also, speaking of PC games, I just played an hour and a half of Antichamber and holy fuck is that an experience. I'm not sure if I can say I like it or not or even if I'll play it anymore, but man, it seriously fucks with the way you think of spacial relationships and puzzle games.
Test Drive Unlimited 2 is on sale for $5 on Steam. Anyone play it? Recommend it? I REALLY want a racer on PC, but I don't know...
Apparently it has terrible driving physics. I know nothing about it personally, but it doesn't have very good reviews overall though PC Gamer really liked it for some reason.

What is a good PC game pad to use that isn't too pricey? My MS controllers won't work on my computer because they're the Play & Charge.
I could buy a wired 360 controller for $34, but was just curious if there was anything better out there.
I personally use a wired 360 controller and haven't had an issue with it. For the most part, games that use controllers assume that you're using a 360 controller.Quote:

I'm also reading reviews on this new Sim City...they don't seem all that positive...would ya'll say it's b/c it's new and needs patches or it's just a headache in general?

Your 520 comes in at a rating of 357 while the 7800 comes in at 296 (have to look at the high-to-mid chart to see them).
Bear in mind though, not all cards listed with a price are still available to purchase... at least not at that price. May have to do some digging around. I'd recommend looking at the GTX 650. It's new enough that you'll get good support but not top of the line so it won't break the bank (as low as $80 after MiR). That said, you won't be playing very many new games at Very High settings.

Yeah... that's a monster of a card. Unless you plan on going PC only for gaming, that's probably overkill. What are your PC specs now? Power supply is probably the only limiting factor, unless you're on Windows XP which could be an issue. Have a link to your full system specs?

Yeah... that has everything. The 450 Watt Power Supply is quite weak and no way you could run either of the cards you linked efficiently. You'd want to upgrade that to probably at least 750 Watt, then upgrade your video card, even if you went with a GTX 650.
Your machine itself is quite good... good processor, RAM, etc. That video card (and power supply) is the only thing that would hold you back from playing ANY game at a very high level.

I'll have to see how good it is. I bought it on Steam, they dropped the collectors complete bundle from $80 to $39.99. I guess to compete with the new Sim City. The nice thing is you get the complete game plus all the addons for $40. It took about 2 hours to download it so I haven't had a chance to play it yet.Quote:

I'm hoping they can just tell me it's a bad power supply and I can RMA it back to newegg to get a new one.
If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears but at this point I'm just ready to get it fixed, hopefully without too much cost.
Just saw this thread. The answer is yes, I really enjoy Tropico 4. I also highly encourage anyone to get Modern Times to go with it as dlc. Most of the expansions are rip -offs but Modern Times is a whole new game. The challenges get harder and harder. On my first system my graphics were weak and the game looked pretty bad. On my new kick butt system I run the game on high/ultra and it looks spectacular. Plus I love the soundtrack. It's not as deep as sim city but five hours will pass like five minutes... As far as taking it into a shop, there is one that I've recommended to people before and they've had good results. I'm going to go into it though telling them that I just want to find out the problem... test the power supply (there is a specific tool to test power supplies), test the motherboard (use a different CPU), test the CPU (put the CPU in a different system), just tell me what fails. That should be easy enough for anyone with spare parts laying around, unfortunately I threw out a bunch of old equipment not too long ago.
I think I've determined the problem... notice the burnt chip just below the center of the image. I'll be ordering a new mobo.
