Wow. That definitely looks interesting. Sadly, the screenplay is written by Damon Lindelof (Prometheus, Lost, Cowboys & Aliens) which means the movie is most likely going to be atrocious... (sigh)
Well that's a whole new look on Zombies
He's done other good work, so I don't totally get the "sadly" or automatic atrocious. But he didn't write the screenplay. He was hired to re-write part of the movie but didn't complete the job. J. Michael Straczynski, one of the best writers ever IMO, wrote the original draft, and Matthew Michael Carnahan re-wrote that version (and is currently the credited "writer").
World War Z is most definitely a must see summer flick (more like a first week at the theatres flick).
Reading Wikipedia (it's on the web, so it has to be true) it sounds like the movie is basically a zombie flick that uses the name of a popular book but doesn't capture the meaning (of basic plot points) of the book. The book sounds pretty interesting, but would probably be too deep to put into a popcorn flick.
I read this yesterday, which jives with your impression. Daniel W. Drezner: Why World War Z scares me -- and not in the good way.
But at the same time, there's a quote in the Wiki article from Brooks stating that JMS's draft was quality. Now, maybe JMS's screenplay is not what they've ended up using. That would be a key thing that isn't really clear from the Wiki article.

Really good cast and looks like it could make a really good movie.
Stallone looks like he's in Rocky IV shape
