That's my son Carter after picking up his pads on Saturday. His practices will probably start soon. It's his first year playing and he'll be very green. Just wanted to post it here. :)
Thanks for sharing Rudy. That's awesome. I wish your son the best of luck. I was lucky that when I played football as a kid I was "drafted" by my community team which just so happened to be called the Raiders. I would love to put my boys in football but the wife is opposed... it guess it will be soccer and baseball.
We have to drive almost 45 minutes each way to practice and games so we will see how he likes it. We signed him up in a smaller league for a number of reasons but he's also in a 3 year grouping (due to smaller size of league) and is the youngest year so I hope he doesn't get pushed around too much.
Yeah I was in the two year groupings BUT in that first year I took a real beating. It surprising how much one year makes. I found though that the practices were worse than the games. One of my coaches was far too intense (he was eventually removed from coaching...). The first 20 mins of each practice was hit and take a hit. I was only 10 at the time but after each practice my arms/shoulders were black and blue. The next day at school I would have difficulty lifting my pen. But another year I had a coach who was awesome and just wanted us to have fun and develop as players. The coach makes a huge difference on the love of the sport IMO.
This league is all about fun and giving kids a chance to play. That's why he's in it and not the main Windsor league. The other league had 7 year olds practicing 5 times a week plus a game in the playoffs. They also only had 6 snap minimums for playing time so some kids barely played. This league broke away (only it's second year now) because the convenor had coached in that league for 5 years and had grown tired of the way kids were treated and how the emphasis was all about winning for young kids. They have rules forcing more balanced playing time and practice limits. Kids don't go more than 3 times a week total and that includes games at his age level.
I only played two years in high school. Never played as a kid growing up. Totally different ball game.
Cool picture but please tell me that is not the helmet he will be playing with? That thing will get knocked into the stands the first time he hits someone.
Back to Madden news, Shop and Madsci will be releasing a lot of info this week. New video.

Shop with an article on the new menu system. Nothing terribly exciting here although the camera options are Standard, Zoom, Broadcast and Legacy. I guess Wide is gone for Legacy which I'm guessing is M13's default camera? Shop didn't know.

The pre-game seems pretty decent. I like the new sideline reporter bit. I'm not sure how detailed it will be during the season but I look forward to finding out. I love how Madden does the starting lineups. I really wish NCAA would add that type of detail. Commentary sounds similar to last year but somewhat enhanced.
Gameplay looks similar to NCAA. I am willing to bet that defense will be very soft this year, much like NCAA. Just based on the gameplay videos we have seen, the D has NOT stood out.
I'm not that observant to be able to judge how the Defense is going to play from these videos. Usually they are watered down on the easiest settings just trying to show things.
I'll have to see from Season Pass how it will play. Even the demo won't tell me because playing against the CPU is almost pointless. Everything they do seemingly works lol
They added an All-Madden team playable in Play Now only. Virtual Madden is on the sidelines.

As for defense, I will reserve judgment until I see gameplay on All-Pro or All-Madden. I think Madden did a better job of balancing the passing game last year. In years past I always relied on my TE and slot WR far too much and my outside WRs didn't get enough balls. That wasn't the case in M13 but did seem the case in the NCAA 14 demo.
LMAO a pre-season game in Antarctica (-5 F) in August. Great attention to detail EA Tiburon, not.
The gameplay looks similar to NCAA 14 which I didn't really care for in the demo. I know Madden will be more polished and it has the precision modifier for RB moves, but the way the game plays in these videos has me slightly concerned. I have the game pre-ordered for like $46 off ebay so I am already committed to the game. I am just mildly concerned with what I'm seeing in these videos but difficulty settings are probably weak.
The only reason I am critical of the D is simply because it looks pretty much like what I have been playing everyday against the cpu with NCAA 14. I expect Madden's d to be tighter as Madden 13's D was much better than NCAA 13. However, this seems to be the year of offense... run free is way overpowered in NCAA and zone D is non-existent. I have not seen anything video footage wise that makes me think Madden will be lightyears better. I hope I am wrong but we will not find out until season ticket.
Definitely think the focus is on the RB and run game this version
Even though I think the run game has been fairly solid for the past 2 versions if you could run.
My only hope in regards to the Defense is I hope the Offense doesn't have the ability to "create" routes with total control passing like this past version
It was nothing to turn a Streak into a modified Post or Corner Post. Or a Corner Post into an Out route, etc
The run game was already kind of hype because Physics would have your guys falling or getting chipped, or some of the terrible angles taken at times.
If that is cleaned up then I definitely like the odds of Defense being up to par with Offense. I didn't have much trouble with Defense this past version even with the things I mentioned above. Then again I always play with teams who are stronger on Defense anyway.
There are videos on owner mode and relocation process.

Relocate

Interesting to see that cpu teams will have the option of relocation as well. I look forward to seeing what happens.
Have to admit that watching the relocation video made me pretty excited. I will move one team just t experience it (test dynasty of course).
Yeah, I may dabble with it as well with a test Franchise using certain criteria to decide which teams will be relocating.
I did notice that no scouting points were given week 1 of the regular season, but each week after that the Jags got 3210 SP so that's around 51,000 total from the regular season (same as last year after the scouting upgrade). I wish they gave us the option to auto scout just have us put in the criteria (pick certain attributes for each position to be scouted and select which rounds we want to scout per position). Then at the scouting combine we automatically get all the Players speed grade, agility grade, jumping grade, and strength grade unless you already scouted that prior then you would unlock the + or - grade.
Last but certainly not least it sure seems the disconnected franchise feel is back in Madden 25 with everything being done from the Action portion of the UI. I want the old League Schedule look of Madden 12 with all the week's match-ups, scores, and box scores to be the main screen. I hate that it feels like my team is the only team that exists in a 32 team league. I shouldn't have to go hunting to keep up with which teams are hot and cold especially during the playoff race.
Your last paragraph has been one of the biggest issues with Madden since 05 on ps2. I hate the isloated feeling of franchise mode. I was a huge fan of the Extra Point because it tried to fix that but now there is nothing. You play your game, you scout but you don't feel any connection to what is going on around you.
Last year I NEVER got to see any of the "great" players who were drafted because I didn't play those teams. A huge thing for me would be allowing us to play any game on the schedule like you could do in every madden game before last year. Tiburon just does not excel at this area of the game.
I don't know why they scrapped the extra point. They need to bring that back with fake video highlights ala 2K5.
Skills trainer is the same as NCAA but they have a precision modifier section. This video looks week. Other than timing the L2 button I don't see the big deal about this thing at all other than I'm assuming you need to be rated 90+ in a category to have it be a super move. The one thing I will say is the super juke is sweet and can be seen at 1:30. I love that the r-stick juke is great there. Something that seemed to be completely missing from the NCAA 14 demo (nowhere near as effective imo). If you disagree with that statement please link a vid since I thought the r-stick juke sucked, even with the Oregon back.

Shop just tweeted this:
"New Madden 25 Gameplay video coming at today 9:30am est. Philly vs. Washington. Complete Game, no voice overs. Uploading now...."
(I am spending the day with the family at the zoo so will have to check it out much later.)
Cool will have to check it out here soon.
Thanks for posting the vid. NCAA 14 with NFL teams at the most basic level. The gameplay looks very, very similar. Man D seemed decent but those zones looked like swiss cheese. Looks like the read option was toned down a little bit which is a good thing. Still some wonky physics but they have been improving. I really liked the intro but halftime and postgame are just such a letdown... again.
Visually the game continues to be stunning. I find the player models and stadiums look so much better than NCAA. Sound was decent but the commentary is NOT leaps and bounds better. Also MORE stat overlays are needed (use the NCAA 14 ones!!!).
Okay... let's bring on the demo! p.s. Rudy, let's hope it will be available in Canada...:fp:
its still madden, its still a game. I may not get it till October though.
I've got a Canadian AND US account after the NCAA fiasco so I'll be good no matter what happens. I doubt they would piss on Canadians for Madden. I'll check out the video later but I really want the demo. The thing that sucks is that the early rumour was that it will be out in two weeks on August 13th and I'm scheduled to be in Toronto for work most of that week.
Finally watched the Madden game between Shop’s Redskins and the cpu Eagles.
Presentation comments – I think I will be skipping the team intros very quickly. Not a bad idea but I didn’t care for them. I thought last year’s commentary of Simms and Nantz was a huge improvement even if they weren’t always smart. I heard some new stuff but the smart hasn’t been elevated much. Last year Nantz was obsessed about first downs. This year he’s obsessed about who is playing in the slot. I really enjoyed Simms last year but his commentary lacks good specifics and this hasn’t been improved either. His commentary on plays like the read-option act as though it was just a basic running play. Why not have read-option specific commentary? Same goes for screen passes. He needs to be more specific but the commentary isn’t there.
Half time show is a little improved after the downgrade of last year. At least we get highlights of our game mixed in but it’s not better than Madden 12 and has no commentary. Post game also unimproved.
Some things I liked: Cpu Vick waited and found Maclin for a TD at the back of the end zone. He used good sideline awareness to stay in bounds. Same for Shop’s Fred Davis on a sideline catch. I still want to see receivers be more aware and slow their route down if they are heading out of bounds. Not sure on that. The tough catch and hit Shop’s WR took with one minute to go was cool. He threw it into double coverage and the WR made a super tough catch and got spun. A cool play.
The cpu seemed to play smarter. I saw them disguise a coverage on 3rd and 3 as the LCB came up as if to bump only to back off and play zone at the snap (27:35). At least they weren’t falling off every WR to allow an easy short completion which happened too often in M13. Cpu McCoy on a screen play makes a beautiful spin and then hurdle. They use their moves and read the plays well (29:55). The read-option by Shop was not overpowered. He wasn’t able to generate an unrealistic amount of yards. I do like watching the movement the OL gets on running plays including double team blocks.
Things I didn’t like: cpu Vick trucking a free LB at 8:30. This play was ridiculous and defies all logic and physics. A free LB outweighing Vick by close to 50 pounds and moving at near full speed gets trucked by tiny Vick who had little momentum? What the heck? The only really stupid moment I saw but it was terrible. Vick did throw a late pick on a deeper pass. Shop made a nice play but the cpu quarterback needs to lead their WRs on deep plays more downfield. That way it’s either a completion or maybe incomplete. Too often they under throw those routes and it leads to picks. I thought Philly called too many read-option plays on their first drive but didn’t seem to be a problem later on.
Overall it looks like an improvement on M13 with owner mode being the big addition.
An interesting clip (warning very fast...)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=pm7ZI1uBAgo
Yeah that over the top arcade type of canned animation has only one result, compete bs. I mean why do these types of animations even get put into the game because they are never done with any thought to the match-up or situation. Never is exactly how many times a skinny QB like Vick will truck a big LB like Kerrigan. I mean Kerrigan had a full head of steam instead the animation plays out regardless taking you completely out of the illusion that it is suppose to be simulating. The reverse should of played out for Kerrigan against Vick that would have been a bit more realistic yet still over the top WWE crap. These animations have no part in PS4 games, but I'm sure it will be business as usual with boatloads of canned animations playing out repeatedly game after game.
The Barry Sanders Jr video had a couple nice TD celebrations. I liked the Giants unis as well but on that last punt return for TD the punter gets blocked in the back something huge. Penalty!!
Someone tweeted that the Strategy Pad has been removed from Madden. I didn't like it or use it but why remove an option that some people may have liked (if true)?
Yeah the videos I have seen looks like it was in there as well
You still likely have the option to turn it off or use the links
