I hope we get a choice of anything for free from the Playstation Store..
Maybe a free month of Plus, who knows.
Just tried again and I get a message saying PSN is undergoing maintenance.
A day off from work with the wife on call for 36 hours and no PSN? :smh: worst day eva!
I'm beginning to wonder if they fired an employee and he went postal in the server room. Hackers deny any responsibility, but clearly something big happened.
Maybe they're adding in party chat!!!!!

Complete side bar from the PSN talk, I'm in the process of getting a new game but I don't know what to get. I got it down to COD, Tiger Woods 12 and NHL 11. I could possibly get 2 if the sale on TW on Amazon lasts til Monday. I'm also open to suggestions too.
It's probably from the 6.0 earthquake Japan had around the time the servers initially went down.
Ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff this sucks.
I didn't even see the Party Chat comment earlier, but YES, they definitely need to. I realize it's not happening, but every time I see "party chat" and "PSN" in the same sentence, I feel the need to vent.
Also, this is HORSE SHIT. Come on, Sony...quick sucking.
This happens to us at work. It's mad fun to know you're working basically around the clock to solve the issue and you can't eradicate it and people are PISSED. Then even after you fix it, could be something totally out of your control, everyone thinks you're an incompetent asshole for letting it happen. Lol @ technology work.
They got The Hacked.Quote:
An external intrusion on our system has affected our PlayStation Network and Qriocity services. In order to conduct a thorough investigation and to verify the smooth and secure operation of our network services going forward, we turned off PlayStation Network & Qriocity services on the evening of Wednesday, April 20th.
They may not have initially known what was going on or just did not want to speculate and now with several days to go through logs they see a trend.
Not necessarily. The initial reports indicated that something was causing problems in Japan. I don't know anything about the infrastructure about PSN, but if some core services are in Japan, it's possible that they were shut down due to this 'external intrusion', but that wasn't communicated to Sony Europe and Sony America. One thing that's clear about this is that the communication at Sony is truly, truly lacking. Maybe not internally, but definitely externally. IGN tore into them pretty bad today, and they're right that something as essential as information compromise hasn't been communicated. It's possible that it's still being investigated, but even that information would be nice.
There's also the possibility that there is a school of thought that says you don't acknowledge an attack until you think you've isolated it. If on Wednesday they said "we're under attack, and we're taking down PSN as a safeguard", two things would have happened: 1) The people that don't understand what that means would have countered with "Are you idiotic? Why are you taking down my PSN?" 2) The people responsible for the attack would have known they had success and redoubled their efforts. In practically any circumstance where an attack is ongoing, you don't acknowledge it until after the fact. It's not the best line of thinking, and I'm not sure I agree with it, but I've seen it time and again.
The other possibility is that they may not have manually trigged the shutdown. It may have been done automatically in response to the attack. And in that case it would be more along the lines of Oneback's speculation.
Latest update:
We sincerely regret that PlayStation Network and Qriocity services have been suspended, and we are working around the clock to bring them both back online. Our efforts to resolve this matter involve re-building our system to further strengthen our network infrastructure. Though this task is time-consuming, we decided it was worth the time necessary to provide the system with additional security.
We thank you for your patience to date and ask for a little more while we move towards completion of this project. We will continue to give you updates as they become available.
Well, at least they're communicating a little more.
I just wanna headshot someone on SOCOM. That's all.
When PSN goes back online, I'm considering calling them and demanding credit ($) for their network rendering my subscription to NHL Gamecenter Live useless on my PS3.
That's a separate subscription agreement and you can still access it from your laptop. Hook your laptop up to your tv.
Latest rumors are that PSN should start returning to Japan on Monday, and return to US and Europe on Tuesday.
I know, but the picture quality suffers, there are different replay/classic games options on the ps3 and since I'm not a PS+ guy I had to pay ($10 I think) for Gamecenter on the ps3.
I don't anticipate getting any credit, I just wanna take out some frustration on Sony. I'm also gonna call the Gamecenter # and tell them I don't intend to renew for 2011-12 because of PSN. Just stirring the pot. If you charge me for a service, you should refund if you can't provide it.
GameCenter isn't free like MLB.tv? Well that's a little different. Ah well, in the meantime I subscribed to iRacing and I don't even care about PSN at the moment. Though I want to play SOCOM, so if it could hurry up.
The GameCenter app is only free to PS+ subscribers. $10 for any "free" PSN users.
:D :D :D :smh:

I know you are waiting for additional information on when PlayStation Network and Qriocity services will be online. Unfortunately, I don’t have an update or timeframe to share at this point in time.
As we previously noted, this is a time intensive process and we’re working to get them back online quickly. We’ll keep you updated with information as it becomes available. We once again thank you for your patience.
Sony had to think they were going to get railed by saying our update is we have no update.
From Joystiq:
Quote:
According to PSX-Scene former moderator, "chesh," the now six-day-long PlayStation Network outage is the result of a particularly exploitative custom firmware (CFW) modification for PS3. In a post on Reddit, chesh claims that a CFW known as "Codename: Rebug" had given its users the ability to log into PSN as if they were doing so from a developer console (or "debug unit").
As a result, chesh contends, this same exploit allowed its users to add funds from "dummy" credit card accounts into their PSN wallets, ostensibly giving them the ability to "unlock" (read: steal) certain PlayStation Store content. Joystiq's research into the purported exploit has turned up multiple tutorials detailing the process, which appears alarmingly easy to execute on consoles running the Rebug CFW.
The hack does not allow its users to access the credit card or other personal information of PSN users, chesh adds. Nevertheless, as we reported earlier today, Sony is working to rule out information theft as part of its investigation during the maintenance outage in which the company is also implementing new security measures.
Sony has not yet responded to our request for comment on this story.
wow. it used to be silly viruses you had to watch out for. now these kids living in the basement are just into stealing stuff.
I saw that story a few other places. It's suspect for one reason ... in the other articles, they said that "Rebug" was release March 31. I'd have a hard time believing that Sony took down the network 3 weeks after release of "Rebug", just to stop people using it, and have to take down the servers for this long. It just doesn't jive.
That was my first thought when it went down. Can you imagine how much money Sony would lose every second they left that hole open? It hasn't been wide spread til recently, so I'm pretty sure that's what got the attention of Sony and forced them to shut down the servers and perform this lengthy maintenance on the network.
If reports of 100% online no disc games for next next gen systems is true, an event like this would be devestating. My PS3 sports gaming is my wind down time. Take that away and I would not be a happy camper. Thhe more tech advances the more tech hackers advance. That could be a scary proposition...
