View Full Version : College Football 2016 - Week 1

It's here! The start of the college football season has arrived!
Technically.
For the majority of teams, next week is the official start, however, there is a pair of games this weekend, starting tonight with Hawaii and Cal battling for the Golden Kangaroo in the land down under.
Then tomorrow night it's a FCS affair as Charleston Southern visits North Dakota State, both games airing on ESPN.
Due to these two games taking place tonight and tomorrow, I'm combining them with the "officially official" week 1 that arrives next Thursday.
I took the schedule screenshot as all one entire extended picture, so sort of experimenting here. Let me know if anyone has any problems viewing it on Tapatalk or on a regular computer. If needed, I'll go back to breaking the schedule up into smaller individual screenshots.
Edit - Nevermind, it was showing up pixelated for some reason on Tapatalk, and couldn't be expanded on the full site on my tablet, so i went ahead and broke it down.

LOL! My college roommate lived in Jackson, MS at the time and we were talking one day after Katrina hit and people were bus and sheltered elsewhere. He was in Wal-Mart at the time so I asked him, "Can you tell the New Orleans people apart when you're out shopping?" He said, "Hell yeah! All these muthafuckas in here stealing and shit! It was a 24-hour store until these bitches got here. Now they close at 12 and they got mad people standing by the door checking receipts. All these fuckers wearing white t-shirts" I couldn't help but laugh and say, "Yep! That's my people!"

Appalachian St is at it again. Tied with the way over hyped Vols in the third quarter. Vanderbilt being the Gamecocks.
- Tennessee already showing to be over-rated. They got really lucky to recover that fumble in the endzone in OT.
- So Car rallies to beat Vandy. Not sure whether to be impressed they came back from 10-0 halftime deficit or to ignore it since one team had to win & neither is any good.
- Or St - Minn is a good one, but again I'm not sure either team is any good.

And lucky that App missed an XP... and App missed a FG... and App had awful clock management to end regulation... and App played not to lose in the 4th quarter...
Appalachian State had their chances and didn't capitalize.
Arkansas State down 21-3 at home to Toledo, late 2nd quarter. Uh oh....

A really touching moment tonight at the Fresno State-Nebraska game. In honor of former punter Sam Foltz, who was killed in a car accident on July 23rd, Nebraska took a delay on game on their first punt of the game.

And in a classy move, in recognition of the significance of the moment, Fresno State ultimately declined the penalty.

Jesus Christ, USC has -1 offensive yard since the first quarter. 14 yards in the 2nd quarter and -15 yards so far in the 3rd quarter.
They have, grand total, a whole whopping 79 yards of offense right now as of 9 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. Jesus Christ, talk about taking it up the ass.

What happened to Malzahn? His offences have sucked lately. What gives? Only 3 points in the third quarter. Clemson is good but cmon!

I've gotten about what I expected from Notre Dame but Texas' offense is looking to be greatly improved. I didn't expect that at all. They've sputtered for so many years now that I expected more of the same from them, particularly with all the under classmen they are starting.

I just figured they'd struggle to get out of their own way like they have for years. I figured the Irish would put up 30+ points but I just thought Texas would do very good to score even 17.

Of course, with my luck, Texas will probably be shit on offense for most of the year and make this game completely inexplicable. :D

We'll see. Navy lost a TON of players from last year, so they were already expected to have a down year. Now losing their starting QB will hurt more. Granted, he was only ever a backup due to Keenan Reynolds tearing it up on the field. But I still felt more confident about Smith than a freshman getting thrown out there.

SEC went 6-6 against non conference teams. Two of those wins required Tennessee to go to OT and Arky only beat La Lech by a point. Outside the state of Alabama (that includes Auburn's defense) nothing really impressed me. Jameis Winston was on the sidelines tonight, so a second half comeback was almost mandatory. :D

Technically, it was a neutral site game but I'll grant you that it was a home game for Houston. However, people in Houston generally don't give a shit about UH (except for the alums) so they don't get much of an advantage anyways (as opposed to more traditional top schools).
That said, I didn't watch the game so I don't know how partisan the crowd was. My guess would be 60/40 toward Houston but I could be way off.
None of this is intended to discredit what you said, it's just to say that with bare facts alone (road loss to a now-top-10 school) it can be a bit misleading.
