View Full Version : steelerfan's FIFA 16 Manager Career

I've decided to go ahead and start a Manager Career but I doubt I'm going to do as much with it as I did last year. At least not as many videos. They were alot of work and nobody here really watched them anyway, lol.
With that said, my FIFA 16 Manager will be Neil Harris (not the *** one). Harris is a recently retired footballer who is the leading goal scorer in Millwall Football Club History.
Upon retiring, Harris managed Millwall's U21 squad and was twice named Caretaker Manager of the senior squad before being named Manager in April.
Coming into 2015-16, Harris has a career record of 6-6-11.
Millwall, or The Lions, have mostly been a 2nd and 3rd tier club throughout their history but have finished as high as tenth in England's top flight.
Last season the Lions were relegated from the Championship to Football League 1. In this career, I won't necessarily stay at Millwall though club success will earn my loyalty because of Harris' longtime affiliation with the club. Ultimately, however, I will do what is best for Harris with regards to future managerial opportunities.

I will send a scout to the land of long bread, cigarettes and body odor immediately.
That said, I'm on a strict budget and am focusing more on loans and scouting right now so I'm not sure if he'll be cheap enough for me.

I agree. That being said... I am selfish and enjoy watching videos and live streams of other people playing their career modes/franchise modes. Back when Steeler used to stream The Show 14 I must have watched over 50 games. I watched a handful of yours and JB's games that year as well. I probably watched close to 70 games. Up next, Crystal Palace comes to town on Tuesday for another cup tie. Should be a big challenge facing a Premier League side in the second round of the Capital One Cup.
For the record, I'm hoping to update the sliders at the beginning of this thread to what I'm using now. I'm going to play a few matches on 20-minute halves to see how it goes too. Right now, I'm averaging 20.43 shots (should be around 27) and 2.14 goals (should be around 2.7 to 3). I'm going to see if a 30% increase in time gets those numbers in the right neighborhood.

You have the players to run it effectively or are you in the process of building that "type" of team? I like that formation in the sense of ball control but I found I could never get enough penetration with 1 striker.

When I took over, they were running a 4-4-2 and that's the personnel they had. I'm still working on getting the right guys but I'm alot closer now than I was. My biggest issue now is that I don't have enough depth in the midfield - particularly, I have a lack of wingers that can play the LM/RM roles.

Kelechi Iheanacho opened his account at Millwall early in the clash with Coventry City and Shaun Williams converted twice from the spot as the Lions got maximum points for the first time in league play. Unfortunately, Iheanacho sprained his ankle just minutes after his first goal and was subbed off at the half as he gave way to Alfie Pavey. Pavey was the only healthy striker on the roster, with Steve Morison away on international duty with Wales.

By the way, good to see you streaming again. There aren't a lot of sports gamers who stream AND play games the way they are meant to be played... no fluff and no cheese. I enjoy watching streams when people play the way sports is meant to be played.
It was funny as I was watching tv on xbox (since xbox let's you watch other console games as well...) and then I get a reminder that you are streaming (on PS4). Good times.

Two words for you... NABIL FAKIR. You are probably aware but he's a striker in the French league and you can get him for cheap. Huge upside and gives a nice speed burst and accurate shot. I picked him up at the transfer/trade deadline and he was a stud... until he got hurt for 6 months...
I will send a scout to the land of long bread, cigarettes and body odor immediately.
That said, I'm on a strict budget and am focusing more on loans and scouting right now so I'm not sure if he'll be cheap enough for me.
Got the scouting report on Nabil Fekir. He is WAY out of my price range. I'm keeping wages to £10K per week and under for now. His current wages are £50K per week.

I'm still debating which system to get this on. I'm 100% used to and comfortable playing FIFA on the Xbox One controller, it'd just feel weird while trying to play on PS4.
Yet, I sort of want to get it on PS4 on the off chance enough of us buy the game and we consoder trying to revive the TGT FC league that some of you guys had going a couple years ago.
But that's literally the only multiplayer I would ever play on FIFA. I just stick to player and manager career modes otherwise, so I have no problem going solo on Xbox One.

As far as I know the only ones that have it are deuce, Escobar, bdoughty (assuming he got it today) and myself. I'm not sure if any of those guys would play in a league and I'm not sure if anyone else would get the game. I know that doesn't help but it's all I know at this point.

In Manager Career, you can get offered to manage an international side. If you do and you qualify for the World Cup, then yes (though it is called something else).
Also, you can create custom tournaments outside of Career Mode.

Gotcha.
The game definitely looks like the crown jewel of EA Sports but the problem is that I have no knowledge or interest in these teams. I'm more interested in international qualifying for the World Cup and playing the World Cup itself because at least I have a horse in the race (Stars and Stripes, baby!) I'm sure that game or mode lacks depth of league play but that holds my interest more.

The problem is that only Europe and South America are deep enough in the game to make playing with national squads worthwhile.
With the US, there would be no WC Qualifying, you'd just be in. Aside from getting invited to the Copa America, all you'd do is play friendlies between World Cups.
If you still have a last gen system, perhaps you should consider picking up FIFA World Cup Brazil to give it a try and see if football gaming is for you. I'm sure you can get it cheap now and it has lots to keep you busy.

I have changed my sliders in the OP to reflect what I am starting with post-patch. They are almost identical to OS' Community Sliders with some variance for 20-minute halves.
The intention of 20-minute halves is to generate shot totals that are reflective of the real game. Additionally, longer play time means more opportunities for fouls, bookings and injuries (all of which will never come close to reality on 10-or-fewer-minute halves).

Troubles are mounting for Millwall after they nearly stole a point against Port Vale. The Lions were down a man for 82 minutes but Port Vale escaped with a result after Louis Dodds 89th minute match-winner.

Additionally, Lee Martin will serve a 1-match ban on Tuesday against Blackpool as he was sent off in the 8th minute of Saturday's loss.

Millwall were easy 3-0 winners at Blackpool on Tuesday night but it wasn't without cost as Steve Morison suffered a shoulder bruise that will likely keep him sidelined during Saturday's Emirates FA Cup 2nd Round clash at Fleetwood Town.
In Morison's absence Tuesday evening, Millwall boss Neil Harris switched his side's formation and played with a False 9 after Morison left in the 8th minute. In his new role as the False 9 Andreas Pereira flourished scoring a hat trick. Prior to Tuesday, Pereira had tallied just one goal in 17 appearances with the Lions.

LM Shane Ferguson was lost for 2 months to a dislocated shoulder and this may spell the end of his time at The Den. Ferguson is on a short-term loan from Premier League club Newcastle United and the agreement is set to expire in January. With the turn of the calendar just 9 days away, it is unlikely that Millwall will renew the deal for a player who is injured.
Ferguson has made 27 appearances for Millwall this season and has contributed 2 goals and 2 assists but has just 1 assist in 19 league appearances. Shane has been largely replaced in the starting XI by Lee Martin who has 7 goals in 28 appearances across all competitions, including 4 goals in 19 League 1 appearances.

I've played 16 matches since the slider re-work (they are largely OS's Community Sliders with some tweaks to account for playing 20-minute halves) and jumping to Legendary. I've been monitoring my statistics since then and thought I'd post what I have.
I took the averages of the first 354 matches in Football League 1 this season and below you'll see a comparison to my numbers. Real-world numbers are in parenthesis.
Goals Per Game: 2.69 (2.68)
Shots Per Game: 22.81 (21.62)
Shots on Target Per Game: 9.63 (8.70)
Shot %: 42.19 (40.25)
Goals Per Shot %: 11.78 (12.42)
Goals Per SOT %: 27.92 (30.84)
As you can see, the numbers are really good and nothing is completely out of line. I'm happy worth what I have but I'll be sure to keep an eye on them as well.
It's also worth noting that my record is 7-5-4 during those 16 matches. Also something I'm pleased with. I've had a few nil-nil draws, and some games with plenty of goals too (5-2, 3-3) so there's alot of variety.

A tough loss to Southend United as Millwall conceded a pair of brilliant goals. The first came on a rocketed volley from an extremely tight angle and the second from a direct free kick from about 30 yards.
Meanwhile the Lions found the post, pushed a pair of chances inches wide and had the Southend keeper scramble to take 2 off of his goal line as Millwall saw a steak of 6 matches without a loss come to an end.

Following the match, the Lions learned that 37-year-old RM/RB Carlos Edwards has decided to play one more season after considering retirement all year. Edwards leads the club with 7 League 1 assists but his contact is set to expire at the end of the season. The club has not commented on whether or not they intend to bring the veteran wideman back.

The final day of the League 1 season had the feeling of a celebration for Millwall on a successful campaign that will see the Lions participate in next month's Promotion Playoff. It also had a feeling that the club were giving 37-year-old Carlos Edwards a proper sending off even though he announced last week that he intends to play another season.
Edwards was allowed to take a second half penalty as Millwall pummeled Fleetwood Town, 4-0 and finished the season 6th in League 1.
In his post-match press conference, manager Neil Harris downplayed the finality of having Edwards kick from the spot. "I'm not sure which league we'll be playing in next season much less who will be on the squad," said Harris. "Carlos proved he can still compete (3 goals, 7 assists in League 1) and he's been valuable to us this year. Letting him have that moment (the penalty conversion) was more a 'thank you' than a 'goodbye'."
The club has still made no official comment on whether or not they will offer Edwards a new contract.

A late free kick equalized for Port Vale in a driving rain at The Den as an extremely physical 1st Leg of the Promotion Playoff semifinals ended in a 1-1 draw. Ed Upson scored in first half stoppage time for the home side and Millwall will hit the road for Sunday's 2nd Leg where a scoreless draw will not be enough and a 1-1 result will mean extra time.

I forgot to mention that both CB Mark Beevers and RM/RB Carlos Edwards are suspended for the 2nd Leg at Port Vale. Each pickled up a 5th domestic yellow card in the 1st Leg.
I'm about to play the 2nd Leg now. I'm going to be HUGELY disappointed if I don't, at least, get through to the final. It would be a disappointment to not get promoted but not playing in the final would add to the misery.

After David Forde saved his 2nd penalty of the playoffs, Port Vale grabbed their first lead of the tie when Millwall failed to clear the ensuing corner in the 10th minute.
Ed Upson scored a brilliant equalizer in the 39th minute with a 20-yard rocket to the keeper's right and the clubs went to the dressing rooms at halftime on completely level terms.
Kelechi Iheanacho gave the Lions a huge advantage when he pushed them ahead with an eleven yard strike in the second frame's opening minute. At that point Millwall knew that they'd have to lose the match to lose the tie because a draw would push them through on road goals.
Millwall secured their place at Wembley Stadium next Sunday when Uygar Mert Zeybek came off the bench and scored a stoppage time goal, sliding into the 6-yard box and beating the keeper.
Millwall did lose RM Fred Onyedinma when he came up lame with a pulled quad after attempting a shot from outside the area in the second half. Onyedinma, who started both legs of the semifinal due to consecutive suspensions to Shaun Cummings and Carlos Edwards, will miss next week's final.

Millwall will face Sheffield United at the iconic Wembley Stadium next Sunday with promotion to the Football League Championship awaiting the victors. Sheffield United eliminated Bradford City 5-3 on aggregate in the semifinals. In the 2 prior meetings between the clubs, there was a scoreless draw in Sheffield in August and a 1-0 Millwall win at The Den in March.

If I get promoted, the Board is going to have to open the wallets a bit for me to have any real chance of being competitive enough to gain promotion to the Premier League. While I did well against clubs above me on the ladder during cup competitions, I'm not sure this team could sustain it.
I would have to have cash to make a little noise during the Summer Transfer Window.
If I lose and remain in League 1, I'm sure I can add a piece or two and compete for automatic promotion next season.

First post of the 2016-17 season. Still going to spoiler everything to keep the Playoff results under wraps until those of you that follow this catch up.
In a bit of a shocking development, Millwall Football Club has terminated the contract of manager Neil Harris, a club legend, after just one full season on the job.
The Board was unhappy with Harris' inability to win the league title and was further angered when his squad lost the final of the Promotion Playoff to Sheffield United on penalties.
The Lions were 29-17-17 with a +28 Goal Difference in 2015-16.

After receiving offers from several League 2 clubs, a few lower European league sides and a Mexican club, Harris decided to stay in Football League 1 and signed with the only club that made him an offer.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20151222/320fa329d7ad6979e06c880619b0f284.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20151222/d5f99d7b0f851933399f583e1576db9a.jpg
Harris joins Blackpool Football Club - a club whose last significant silverware was an FA Cup win in 1953 but who was 8th in the Premier League when the calendar flipped in January 2011. They were relegated to the Championship that year and have since slid to League 1 mediocrity.
Blackpool are not seeking trophies in 2016-17. They just want to avoid relegation and make a little noise with a Cup run to the Round of 32. Those lower expectations could give Harris the opportunity to have the tenure needed to build up a squad. The current roster is flimsy, shallow and lacking any real direction. I'd expect Harris to immediately implement his 4-2-3-1 and begin looking at where he can cost-effectively improve his side.

It's only matchday 1 but Blackpool supporters see their club at the top of Football League 1 after a 4-0 demolition at MK Dons who were relegated from the Football League Championship after last season.
While supporters are exuberant with the style and pace former Millwall boss Neil Harris has brought to the Seasiders, there is concern that loanee Rushian Hepburn-Murphy will only be with 'Pool on a short-term loan. Hepburn-Murphy was brilliant in his Saturday debut for the club, needing just 9 minutes to open his account en route to a 4-goal performance.
Harris' former club, Millwall, we're 2-0 winners at Walsall.

With a career record of 9-2-3 in domestic cup matches, Neil Harris has made a name for himself. Add to that a couple of Premier League scalps with his Millwall side taking down Crystal Palace and Newcastle United last season and Harris has an impressive cup resume.
Those accomplishments cannot be dismissed but taking on Manchester City, one of the richest clubs in the world and a club that is currently 2nd in all of England, is a completely different matter.
City visited Bloomfield Road on Wednesday night and completely dominated from the opening kickoff, in a driving rain. However, poor finishing from City, a few fantastic saves from Colin Doyle and a fortunate strike from Capital One Cup goal scoring leader David Norris lifted Blackpool to an unlikely giant-killing, 1-0.
It is the biggest win in the career of most everyone on the Seasiders roster, including manager Neil Harris.

A bit of a letdown after the win over Manchester City as Blackpool draw 2-2 away to Huddersfield Town.
In other news, Millwall dropped points for the first time this season, losing 1-0 at Shrewsbury Town and Colin Doyle was rewarded with a 1 year contract extension and a pay raise.

Blackpool avoided massive embarrassment with 3 goals in less than 25 minutes, including a brace in the span of 3 minutes from super sub Jack Redshaw. The Seasiders had fallen behind Yeovil Town, who are winless in League 1 and bottom of the table, 3-1 before salvaging a last gasp winner for a 4-3 result in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
