I just read an article that the Steelers get $6 million a year just for their radio rights! Wow! That's a great NFL town unlike Miami which ranks dead last among nfl teams in local ratings. Also, ESPN pays twice as much for the NFL as NBC and yet NBC has the better schedule. Odd. Some interesting national media stuff in this Miami column.

http://miamiherald.typepad.com/sports-buzz/2016/01/media-column-challenges-difficulties-for-espn-on-eve-of-big-weekend-more-bad-dolphins-news-media-not.html

I have no idea how other team's fans are but I know a lot of Steeler fans that turn off the volume on the TV broadcast and use the radio for audio. Myron Cope was a big reason for this back in the day and I think it's carried over.

Steelers: RB DeAngelo Williams not expected to play Saturday against the Bengals due to injured ankle.

skipwondah33

Yeah didn't expect him to be able to go in just a week's time with an ankle

3rd string RB again...FTW!

Read a stat yesterday that this will be the 4th time in past 6 playoff openers that the team will be without the starting RB. Next, next man up

I agree with 1/2 your picks.

The Vikings are losing. I have no idea why you're on their bandwagon.

Steelers/Bengals are a toss-up. AJ McCarron is serviceable enough to get a W at home as I think the Bengals have the better overall team this year. Of all the games though, this game is the one I'm least sure if though.

Yep. I thought I heard it at one point that the majority of misses come because kickers push it instead of hooking it.

I fucking hate Cincinnati. It has been hilarious and, at the same time, disturbing to see all the whining from their moronic fanbase today.

Which one, exactly, of these stats says they deserved to win?

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160111/8389fc62f29a7e3cc04f49ba0a90a69f.jpg

And, instead of admitting that their defense is a bunch of thugs who got what they deserved, they are playing the victim card.

"The refs had it out for us".

Pittsburgh: 10 penalties, 142 yards
Cincinnati: 8 penalties, 79 yards

Raiders owner is going to pursue moving to San Antonio if the LA deal falls through.

Isn't Oakland a better identity for that team than LA even? Moving to San Antonio is really going to change the identity, and piss off a lot of people.

bdoughty

Yeah that would be a head scratcher. You would be better off moving the team to Mexico City than San Antonio. Only minuscule bit of logic would be the share the same colors as the Spurs.

Oh, really? GTFO!I keep hearing that as well among people who aren't fans of either team. That the "Bengals were playing the Steelers and the refs" and it was one side officiating, etc, etc. There were missed calls on both sides like there always is in every game. Pass interference on Allen to set up Bengals 1st touchdown. Non-call on Bengals CB when he did the same thing against Brown on a pass in the game.

And double fuck Pacman Jones for saying Antonio Brown faked being knocked out. Replays of people being knocked unconscious are difficult to watch...and he definitely appeared to be knocked out to me...or maybe just likes to let his body and head slam to the ground uncontrollably

So does Mexico City by about 8 million. :P

Two NFL teams in Texas is enough. Just put the Raiders back in LA. I have no clue how well San Antonio would support a football team. So many of the population are Cowboy fans and a few Houston Texan fans. You want to fuel some rivalries, a Mexico based NFL team, especially one as hated as the Raiders would make for some great border trash talk.

Other articles I've read at Steelers Depot showed that AJ Green false started on the Bengals last TD. After the play, their RB taunted William *** (shown in another article).

In addition to this, David DeCastro said that Burfict spit on him during the game. The article, written after listening to a DeCastro radio interview, doesn't say when it happened but I specifically remember DeCastro being on his back at one point and going from "zero to sixty" in an attempt to kick a Bengals player standing over him. I have the game on my DVR, I'll see if I can find it because I would bet that was it.

The point of all this is simply to reiterate what a shitty bunch of thugs the Bengals are and to say "cry me a river" to the Cincinnati fans who think all the calls didn't go their way.

Fuck them, their shitty city, their chili and their fucking joke of a football franchise. You used to have Jerry Springer as your mayor. Enough said.

The common denominator between the Cardinals and Rams leaving St. Louis is that they both came from somewhere else before arriving in St. Louis.

Of course, the Cardinals started in Chicago and the Rams came from LA via Cleveland.

Maybe there's a lesson there in stealing someone else's team.

Note that both teams that left LA started somewhere else too.

He picked all road teams with the top 4 teams playing at home. Pittsburgh has the best chance if Big Ben and Antonio Brown both play. Seattle probably has the 2nd best chance but will probably lose. I don't see Green Bay or KC winning. All 4 home teams winning is far more likely than all 4 road teams winning at this point.

I think Seattle wins by 13 or more in this game. We're the healthiest we've been in a long time. And I think we have more favorable 1 on 1 match ups this game. Carolina's secondary doesn't have enough quality depth to keep the Seattle WR's in check. After Josh Norman, they've got no one. Seattle moves Doug Baldwin all over the field, Kearse is also sure handed, Lockett has the big play downfield speed.

Defensively, we're red hot. We didn't have Bobby Wagner when we lost in week 6 and we got rid of the terrible Cary Williams. I don't see Carilina putting up more than 21 in this game.

Poor coaching by Seattle. They had multiple chances to make it a one score game before that last field goal.

In the first half, they could have had a short field goal and instead went for it on 4th and 5.

Since they did not get that field goal, they should have gone for two on the second and third (if they first 2 was successful) touchdowns.

Well, dammit.

VERY proud of how Pittsburgh fought today, being so shorthanded and I'm really looking forward to next year. They essentially played without 3 All-Pro's today (Pouncey, Bell, Brown) and another (Williams) who I believe would have been a Pro Bowler if he had started every game.

I hope the Super Bowl is Denver and Arizona but I suspect it won't be. Whatever the case, as long as New England doesn't win again I'm fine with it (don't care to see Scam Newton win either but it'd be better than Brady).

I hope Denver does win but that first meeting between Denver and New England doesn't mean much either because the Patriots were so beat up.

Pittsburgh was 21st in total defense and they'd still be playing if they were healthy. Hell, if Ben, Brown, Bell, Bryant and Pouncey played every game this year they'd probably be playing at home this weekend and would be the favorites to win the Super Bowl.

Point is, defense is not as valuable as it used to be.

They were 5th against the run and 30th against the pass, I believe. But, definitely, the splash plays were the difference. Sacks and turnovers had dried up for the last few years. 48 sacks this year and I can remember 3 interceptions in the end zone (Cardinals, Bengals, Browns). The defense made some plays at the right time and with as much youth as they have you'd hope we'll see more improvement.

The run defense was definitely an improvement as well. Past few years seem like teams were able to run and throw at will. Coupled with the fact that the pass rush didn't get any pressure or force turnovers. Would like like to see the CB's tighter forcing more difficult throws since the pass rush can't always be relied upon, but that goes against the scheme. Still for a first year with a rebuilding defense definitely cannot ask for any more than they had this season. Was refreshing to see.

Penalties also seem to be down

Despite two touchdowns drives on offense, it's the defense keeping Denver ahead in this game right now. The offense is gonna have to find the end zone a little more in the second half.

Despite the defense playing tough as hell the entire first half, I don't quite trust them to keep it up the entire second half after Tom Brady has been given an entire halftime to make changes to their offense to exploit any potential weaknesses in the defense. I've watched this defense do go in the first half and then get burned to hell in the second half before.

If the defense didn't play the game of their lives (until that increasingly shitty fourth quarter), it probably would have been a blowout. Outside of the first quarter, the first two or three minutes of the second quarter and the first couple of minutes of the fourth quarter, the offense was absolutely useless and nonexistent.

They truly pulled this one out of their asses. Now they have two weeks to unfuck the offense and get the defense healthy, because I can guarantee the defense is gonna have to have another "game of their lives" in the Super Bowl.

Also, Fuck New England!

Honestly, I'm hoping for Cardinals. I think Denver's defense would match up much better against Arizona than against Carolina. Trying to stop Cam Newton, plus stop their run and passing game on top of containing his fast ass, would be a true bitch for this defense. The Cardinals seem like a much better opponent for this defense to shut down.

Exactly the reason I said I'd rather face Arizona. Carolina is going to be an absolute bitch to stop on defense. And with a useless offense, the defense would about have to singlehandedly win the game like they did today, which isn't going to be possible against Carolina's offense.

I will give Peyton credit there. He had no turnovers and played pretty well. They could have used a little better from him as some of those quick 3 and out drives really needed to either be lengthened or even turned into an extra touchdown or field goal.

I am glad Denver has such an amazing defense though. If they didn't have that massive a defensive performance tonight, New England probably wins by 30 based on how ineffective the offense was.

As long as the same defense shows up, and the offense gets themselves sorted out, they have a chance in the Super Bowl. Obviously, as I previously mentioned, I like their chances better against Arizona than I do Carolina, but with a perfect game, they could get the job done against Carolina.

As for the Panthers, yeah, that team is just scary good. There is a reason they ended up going 15-1 in the regular season, they have the talent to back that record up, unlike some past teams who went 15-1 in the regular season, only to lose in the Divisional Round or something.

I stopped watching at 17-0 too, but that's just because the Royal Rumble is starting right now. Arizona better get themselves figured out fast or it could get seriously ugly.

Dumbass finally fucked up for the last time. League sources are saying that Cleveland is going to cut his ass on March 9th, the start of the new league season and the first day of Free Agency, since they don't have the space for the salary cap hit to release him sooner on February 8th.

Know which two I would like to throw to.

The Niners organization is in mess right now and just brought in a coach known for doing odd stuff. They are in rebuild mode

Sounds about right. I'm rooting for Denver but I think Carolina will win it.

I'm going to the annual Super Bowl Party at the Cock & Swallow. I have 4 squares:

CAR/DEN
4/0
5/8
8/6
9/7

Squares were $25 and EVERY score change pays $100. For example, if Denver scores a TD on the opening drive DEN 6-0 would pay $100 as well as DEN 7-0 if they made the extra point.

The remainder of the pot at the end of the game goes to whoever has the final score ($300 is taken out for the food for the party) so if it is a low-scoring game you could win a nice bit of money.

I told my daughter I would split the winnings with her after I get my $100 back (ie we win $1000 then I get $550 and she gets $450) so she has the numbers and will be watching intently at home. :D
