Coach Philosophy Substitution Sliders
I forgot to mention in Week 1 that I had set everyone's Substitution sliders to 85. This was on purpose and part of the Operation Sports sliders that we're using. I ask that everyone keep them at those settings if at all possible. The CPU has been set according to their recommendations too, so if we don't keep ours set at 85, that could give us an advantage of better players on the field late in the game, just because we're not pulling them.

Here are the Auto Sub settings that OS recommends with that setting (I think they recently added the Defense settings and changed some of the offense):
Auto Subs - thanks to JoshC

Out/IN

QB 0/1
RB 59/70
WR 64/65
FB/TE 35/36
OL 0/1

DT 84/85
DE 84/85
LB 0/1
CB 0/1
S 0/1

Here are the settings I've been using on Powerhouse for a few seasons now:
Out/IN

QB 0/1
RB 64/75
WR 64/65
FB/TE 35/36
OL 30/31

DT 50/60
DE 50/60
LB 50/60
CB 70/80
S 50/60

I am changing my playbook back to my custom. I hate the flexbone one.

I love it, but with the game it's not a viable offense when defense is pretty hard to play. I used to murder people with it when Clemson had CJ Spiller, James Davis,, Andre Ellington, and Tajh Boyd.

I also ran it my senior year in high school, but we lined up in goaline formation (3RB, 2TE) the whole game :dunno:

Good lord of broken tackles and injuries

BYU escapes with the win 41-32

The Cougars seen their best player RB Williams get knocked out of the game in 5 plays. Their 2nd best player in QB Taysom Hill put out 2 quarters. Their 3rd best player WR Mitchell put out for what will likely be 2 or more games.

And 2nd strong RB/KR Hine hurt for the rest of the season.

This follows the same pattern as the 1st game of the season when 4 players (including Hill, Williams and Mitchell) were all hurt that game as well.

Guys stepped up however when needed to try to replace those guys ability...at times to ugly results.

On the Defensive side it was judt as disasterous except not in terms of injuries...but lack of execution....of tackling. Broken tackle after tackle Utah's QB Wilson ran for over 175 yards...which was usually right through and over someone. Same could he said for when the RB got the ball as well.

We have to get a handle on this going forward if we want to remain competitive.

Next up a tough road test against SMU led by Coach Snoop

Two Utah defenders tapped into the Matrix nearly breaking up a pass in lastnight's game. Luckily the BYU WR entered in as well, after getting stonewalled mid stride...he took a nearly 5-yard stride to come up with the catch after all

FYI...auburn kicker missed missed 3 xp from inside the the 10 yard line. Also missed 2 field goals that were chip shots also. Might want to make sure that the kickers are in the right spot and not out of position.

I guess the CPU doesn't auto re-order the depth chart before the initial season.

EDIT: Auburn's kicker and punter are correct on their depth chart. Not sure what happened.

Kansas upsets #13 Arizona State in Tempe. Big plays and defense were the stories of the day:

Both teams had 70+ yard touchdown runs (Arizona State's was the second play from scrimmage, Kansas' was the first play of the second half)
The Kansas defense grabbed three interceptions while Arizona State grabbed two
The Sun Devils' defense came away with five sacks; Kansas only had one but it was big, including a forced fumble and a safety
Somehow Arizona State was 0/5 on 3rd down, which is easily the stat that led to the Kansas victory

Final score was 32-25, though Kansas led 32-17 with three minutes to go.

Yeah I had same thing happen in my game. Kicker missed 2 XP's badly. One he made barely went over crossbar.

Yeah, that shouldn't happen. Should we increase cpu FG accuracy from 30?

JeffHCross

From the slider thread:
The only thing I know for sure is that if you raise FGA, that the CPU won't attack as much (i.e. knowing that their chance of hitting a FG is lesened, they go all-out to attack to score the TD). Maybe that is less of an issue with a higher QBA....but change at your own risk.

Every slider set they've posted that I've seen has had FGA at 30.

Wow, I didn't realize sliders were so in-depth that it changes the AI like that. Particularly the FG slider having an impact on their AI on Offense.

That is definitely interesting

I've messed with sliders quite a bit and it doesn't surprise me. Changing the penalty sliders have a huge impact. I never like leagues that don't adjust them.

Yes sometimes 4 or so face mask penalties stink, but the game itself as a whole is so much better.

Speaking of which I haven't seen a penalty yet

JeffHCross

Well, the one thing that the Operation Sports community sliders has found is that the penalty sliders affect a lot more than just penalties. So when Oneback was doing all that work back in the day to try and get penalties to happen, who knows what we were screwing up.

Skip, if your interested, go to the OS Community Sliders page and just read the first post. They have impacts of the penalty sliders explained. It's eye opening.
