Sounds like it!
Did I read somewhere this was a "reboot" - if so why its not like there is really any story to these games

Reports are that this game will use the same engine as Star Wars: Battlefront.

Hopefully it like underground with at least car customization.......
If a car game doesn't have real car customization I tend to stop playing it really quick because I can't connect with the cars.
Not a huge surprise, but an online connection is required for NFS:

Ghost Games™, an Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:EA) studio, announced today the car culture icons who have inspired the narrative behind the reboot of Need for Speed™, and revealed how technology is blurring the lines between live action film and in-game.
Play as yourself in Need for Speed and witness the action from your own point of view as your entourage of friends and the icons entice you into the Five Ways to Play. Make choices that will determine your path through Ventura Bay as you build your reputation through the different styles of driving and progress on your journey to become the ultimate icon.
The real world automotive icons are the stars of today’s urban car culture and have inspired the stories behind the gameplay by how they express themselves on the streets every day.
Speed Icon - Magnus Walker collects and restores classic Porsche 911s. He is known for his high speed driving and will push you to enhance your reputation through adrenaline-fuelled driving.
Style Icon - Ken Block is notorious for his style of aggressive driving, as he showcases in his phenomenal YouTube GYMKHANA series. Earn his recognition by mastering the art of precision sliding and jumping through corners and on the streets.
Build Icon - Nakai-san is the founder of RAUH-Welt BEGRIFF (RWB), a world renowned tuning and customizing company. Focus on creating that perfect customized ride as you look to impress him.
Crew Icon - Risky Devil are an infamous drift crew. These guys are the kings of close proximity driving and control. Ride in packs, inches away from wiping each other out as you get to grips with precise control and wild drift trains.
Outlaw Icon - Morohoshi-san doesn’t care how people categorize him, he just does what he wants. He’s often seen on the night streets rolling around in his customized ride. Risk it all as you mess with and escape from the cops to grab his attention.
“We’re honored to be working with these icons - they live and breathe the lifestyle we’re looking to recreate and have been such an inspiration to the team as we return Need for Speed back to greatness,” said Marcus Nilsson, Executive Producer at Ghost Games. “We wanted to create a powerful story that’s emotional but also pushes the boundaries of technology by adding real-time compositing to the power of Frostbite. This allows us, for the first time ever, to blend live action film seamlessly with your in-game car and garage.”
Need for Speed is now available for the 10-hour trial on Xbox One. I'd love to hear some impressions.
The one thing I read about it yesterday was that the Rubberband AI still exists in the franchise. :fdown:

I will try to download this and give it a whirl tonight. Never played the series though so my impressions will be lacking.

Played for 2 hours today. The d/l is only 18.8gb so it's a little bigger than most EA sports titles and downloaded very quickly. I have never played this series and didn't know what to expect...
Pros:
-visually stunning
-boatloads of customization
-easy to level up (level 8 after 1 hour and 48 minutes)
-you gain a lot of money quickly so you can begin to upgrade your ride quickly
Cons:
-I have never played this game yet I won 7/8 races... AI seems questionable
-human cut scenes are painful to watch. They talk to you and you don't respond
-map is not huge as compared to other games in the genre
-DRM.... you cannot play if you are not online so you must have a xbox subscription
* people drop in and out of your game non-stop yet u have nothing to do with them
-why is every race and event in the dark after it has rained? No daytime racing???
The basis of this game is online multiplayer. Don't like that? Then don't buy this game. I have had fun with the races but I would not pay $79.99 cdn (69.99us) for this game. If you love racing games I would argue there are better on the market.

Gotta say I like the filmed cut scenes in with the game. And the games graphics are very nice.

seriously wish there was a racing game that featured a drag/street racing mode. Also wish American muscle was more prominent in racing games instead of the high end cars and imports.

That's good that they worked on the rubber band, and called it "AI Catch Up" :D
I'm definitely enjoying the game. It needs more, but hopefully they use this base for the future.

Is it true there is no manual shifting in this game this go around ? if so that sucks.
