Guitar Hero Live will launch later this year with a new controller peripheral, a Yahoo France report has revealed.

The report, originally published on the website of French newspaper Le Monde and now pulled offline, details a redesigned guitar controller with six black and white notes divided into two rows of three.

Another change from previous titles in the series will be a shift to first-person - letting players personify the role of a guitarist in a concert for the first time.

Activision's rhythm genre reboot is being developed by FreeStyleGames, the UK studio behind DJ Hero.

Rival franchise Rock Band is also set to return this year, although Harmonix's Rock Band 4 will offer full compatibility with previous instruments and song DLC.

Following the leak, expect to hear more on Guitar Hero Live later today.

Guitar Hero Live will not support old peripherals or DLC and the game will not be an annual title.

Just got the game from Activision today.

The band and the crowd are live action. Not animated so that is nice. It's tough getting used to transitioning from the top fret to the bottom to start here.

WOW this is cool. GHTV let's you play along with a streaming rotation of music videos like a 24 hour interactive live television station.

The new game is tricky switching from up and down based on the color of pick. And you can also press the same two buttons in the column as well.

I loved these games as well on last gen. I remember getting the demo on 360 and just using the controller to play lol. When I got around to buying the game I just never got the guitar

Use to rip the Tenacious D song like crazy haha.

Went ahead and got this today.

Played for a good 2 hours through the concert portion unlocking music

Then spent a few minutes on the Live portion. Pretty cool playing along with the live music. I like it.

Hope I can get some of the songs from the one I had on 360. Want that Tenacious D song lol
