Does Kentucky lose? Who, if anyone, can beat them?

I'd like to pick against them, but I don't think they get challenged until the Elite 8 and even then I don't see them losing. They'd have to be racked with nerves, have a team outbreak of stomach flu, or point shaving to lose now IMO.

JBHuskers
03-15-2015, 09:42 PM
Kentucky offensively has seven scorers. If a team shuts down one, you still have six to contend with. Combine this with their defensive ability, I can't go against them.

I thought I was being too chalk with my bracket, but do have two double digit seeds in the Sweet 16, so I guess that isn't so bad.

CLW
03-16-2015, 12:18 PM
:Kentucky: LOOKS unbeatable because they have not played ANYONE since 12/27/14.

They are the best team right now but the gap is not as large as everyone thinks. There are at least 10 teams that could beat them straight up on any given night and it wouldn't be that big of a deal but the media will spin it as such since they have basically said this is the greatest basketball team since the Dream Team.

Who does everyone think will be the Cinderella this year? There are some good teams that got sort of screwed on seedings, so there are going to be some great games this week. Some very talented mid-major teams that have the chance to make some noise. Question is, will any of them be able to make the Sweet 16 and/or crash the Elite Eight or Final Four?

And what about Dayton? First, not only does a very good Dayton team get absolutely fucked over by being one of the last four in, while shitty ass UCLA was apparently safe by a mile, but now Dayton will be playing on their own home court in the first round. I feel sorry for Boise State in that game!

I've got Dayton in the Sweet 16 to go with Stephen F Austin as my double digit "Cinderella's in the Sweet 16". I also have Northern Iowa in the Elite 8.

I think Dayton definitely makes the Sweet 16. They'll beat Boise State. Providence might be a bit tough and Oklahoma will be a challenge, but Dayton's got the talent to make it to the second week.

It sucks Wyoming got paired up with Northern Iowa, I think the Cowboys could have made a little noise, but Northern Iowa should get definitely at least Sweet 16. Louisville just isn't playing very good right now. I'm not picking it, but I honestly wouldn't be that surprised if the Anteaters knocked off Louisville.

Steven F. Austin is an upset pick of mine. I like Wofford, I'm just not sure they can hang a full game with Arkansas. They did knock off NC State, but they got trounced pretty good by West Virginia and Duke. I would have happily picked Harvard to break some more hearts in the tournament again, but matched up with North Carolina, I'm not sure they can rise to that test. North Carolina may have 11 losses, but look at who they came to? Butler, Iowa, NC State, Kentucky, Notre Dame (regular season and tournament), Louisville, Virginia, Duke (twice). Their only bad loss the entire season was Pittsburgh. They are good and I don't see Harvard pulling off their usual tournament upsets.

One upset that I think could happen, Eastern Washington knocking off Georgetown. Georgetown is good, but they're sloppy and they've had some rough games recently.

JBHuskers
03-16-2015, 03:02 PM
For some reason I don't like Wofford.

I have Eastern Washington beating Georgetown, almost had them beating Stephen F Austin, but went SFA instead.

LOL UCLA shouldn't even be in and get an 11 seed? That's right, the fix is in.

I did a more serious bracket here and another that's just upset city

SmoothPancakes
03-18-2015, 10:35 PM
What a game between Dayton and Boise State! And I agree with the announcer, Dayton is extremely lucky that the refs didn't call the foul on that final shot. That was an easy foul call if they decide to blow the whistle.

Good for UAB to get that upset of Iowa State after they lost their football program.

One less Sweet 16 team for me though lol at least I had them getting beat by Gonzaga. Some "experts" had Iowa State as a sleeper for Final Four :D

SmoothPancakes

I had them losing to Duke in the Elite Eight. Gonzaga always loses by the Sweet Sixteen, so no way was I going to trust them to actually make it beyond that this year.

Accidently had them going to the finals because I was trying to undo the pick but it kept moving them further. Then only way I found out how to fix it was have them losing early on. Didn't fix it at the SMU game though haha

cdj
03-19-2015, 07:56 PM
To be fair, SMU probably shouldn't have lost on that goaltending call.

I had ISU losing second round. Their recent 'start slow & rally' strategy wasn't going to hold up in the tourney, but I figured they'd be OK in game one.

SmoothPancakes
03-20-2015, 06:39 PM
I just do one bracket. Extra bracket cheapen the fun and aggravation of watching the games.

And damn, UC Irvine and Valparaiso came up just short. I didn't pick them, but as I said on here before the tournament, I liked their chances at pulling off upsets. They were talented enough to challenge Louisville and Maryland.

#TheScriptIsDead

JBHuskers

I don't follow or root for those other brackets. I just focus on the main one.

SmoothPancakes
03-21-2015, 08:36 PM
And Villanova is the first #1 seed to fall (as expected), losing 71-68 to NC State. That's good for me, because I had Northern Iowa beating Villanova in the Sweet 16.

#TheScriptIsDead

cdj
03-21-2015, 08:50 PM
Last year Creighton absolutely rolled Nova a couple times and that was enough (with previous tourney results) to never pick them to do much again. I stumbled into NC State upsetting them due to this logic.

JBHuskers
03-21-2015, 09:03 PM
Villanova losing helps me out long term. I have UNI in the Elite 8 and Virginia in the Final Four.

SmoothPancakes
03-21-2015, 09:18 PM
Yeah, Villanova is always overrated. They're a good team, but they choke in the tournament and they fold against mid to upper level teams of the power 5 conferences, like they did today against NC State. I don't know whether to feel sorry for the people who actually picked them to win it all, or laugh at them for thinking Villanova would do more than win 1 or 2 games before bowing out.

#TheScriptIsDead

JBHuskers

This bracket was already set up for either Virginia or Northern Iowa to take.

SmoothPancakes
03-21-2015, 11:24 PM
I'm not really sold on Virginia, but while I like Northern Iowa, I didn't feel comfortable pushing them all the way to the Final Four. I took a gamble on Oklahoma, who I think will beat Virginia.

This is why I picked Michigan State to upset Virginia. Michigan State is a fast ass team. Virginia needs time to get back and set up their turtle in the paint defense, and the Spartans aren't giving them any. Add to that cold shooting by the Cavs, and Michigan State is already running away with this one half way through the first half.

Yep :Virginia: fell apart down the stretch and really did not play well at all after Anderson broke his finger and then had an appendectomy. No margin for error when you play the way the Hoos play.

Nope, none at all. A lot of the experts were still expecting Virginia to keep moving on, but I liked Sparty's chances against that slow grind turtle defense. Even they're offense wasn't great. Just a bunch of never ending picks, rolls, screens and quick passes to try and get an opening to chuck up a shot. That and a ton of missed free throws killed them.

That too. And I definitely wasn't going against Izzo. Hell, I picked Oklahoma to beat Michigan State in the Sweet 16 and even now I'm starting to doubt that pick against Izzo.

As for Wichita State and Kansas, I wasted no time in picking the Shockers. I liked this team to knock off Kansas from the moment the brackets were announced. If they do hold on for the upset, I'm just wondering if I should have gone with them over Notre Dame. I picked the Irish to beat Wichita in the Sweet 16, but these guys could easily topple Notre Dame if they keep playing like this.

I had Dayton beating OU.

KU is young. This isn't their year. It was a no brainer for me either at the time of filling it out.

SmoothPancakes
03-22-2015, 06:03 PM
I like Dayton. I had them going on their run last year and it paid off. This year, they're good enough to make the same run, but they have got to be wearing down. Today is their 6th game in the last 10 days. Anybody would start to wear down and tire out with that schedule. And none of those games were easy, almost all of them going right down to the buzzer. As long as Oklahoma can drain their shots in the second half, they'll be in great shape.

#TheScriptIsDead

SmoothPancakes
03-22-2015, 06:05 PM
