With two graduating seniors after this season, Defensive End was a key target for the Gators and Gilliam is a very nice signing. While he doesn't posses the strength that Florida coaches look for, he does have good speed and very good abilities to get off a block.

Depending on the rest of the class, Gilliam may redshirt to allow him to develop a bit more before being ready to start.

Other offers: Marshall & Florida State.

After seeing what bowling-ball HB Isaac Gordon did in his Freshman season, Wheeler knew that he could easily fit into the Florida offense. With Gordon's bruising run ability combined with much better speed and agility, Wheeler will be that much more of a force running the ball.

Look for Wheeler to likely redshirt a season to limit the headache of trying to spread carries around so thin.

Other offers: LSU, Wake Forest, East Carolina, & Louisiana Tech.

If Wheeler is the heir-apparent for Gordon, then McCormick is the heir-apparent for HB Dwight Butler. McCormick's speed and elusiveness will compliment Wheeler's bruising run style perfectly. Add in his ability to catch a pass, the Gator offense will continue on for years to come without skipping a beat.

Expect that McCormick will redshirt his first season as well.

Other offers: South Alabama & Florida State.

Over the last fifteen years, there have been a few football players from Medina, Ohio to attend Ohio State. Ty Johnson may be the best of that small set, as the 4-star prospect comes to Columbus as the consensus #1 player at his position.

Johnson's combination of speed and tackling skills will give him a strong base to work from as he transitions to the next level. His coverage skills were good enough for Ohio high school competition, but Johnson will need to improve if he's to stay with the Amari Coopers of the world.

With two seniors graduating and leaving the FS position with no game-time experience next season, expect Johnson to rotate with last year's #65 player, Ryan Robinsion.

Johnson also considered offers from Notre Dame, Ball State and Alabama.

A kid from suburban Cincinnati, Wade Smith is fulfilling a life-long dream by moving on to the Division I level of college football. While Smith grew up a Notre Dame fan, he rooted for the Buckeyes as well -- as long as they weren't playing Notre Dame -- so the appeal to stay at home was strong.

Smith is a strong body that won't be pushed around inside, which is exactly what the Buckeyes interior defense needs at this point. It would be very surprising to see Smith redshirt his freshman year, due to depth issues at the DT position.

Smith chose Ohio State over offers from Michigan State, Miami of Ohio, Illinois, Ball State, UNLV and Pittsburgh.

Preston White comes to Ohio State as the most athletic player on his high school team. As such, White is experienced at many positions, both on offense and defense, though his skills could be characterized as jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none.

Most scouts believe White is best fit for the halfback position, though Ohio State's depth there does pose a problem for White. It is more likely that White's athletic talent will lead him to a position in the defensive backfield, probably Strong Safety across from impact freshman (and similar HB/DB tweener) Andre Massey.

White received no other offers.

With FS being a key need this season, Florida coaches weren't necessarily looking at an in-the-box Safety like Tatum but he sought after the Florida coaches and they certainly weren't willing to turn him away. With good speed, good ability to play the ball and make a tackle, all combined with a decent ability at coverage, Tatum will be a force for the Florida defense. With his signing, it may allow other players to move over to FS.

Expect that Tatum will redshirt due to a deep Strong Safety core.

Tatum had interest from Oregon and Virginia but they eventually withdrew.

Wow, nice get at SS, G. I've really struggled to find speed at SS this year, and converting ATHs isn't the greatest idea, though it does get speed there.

Also, that player would live practically down the street from me (nearly literally). May need to go knock on his door and do an in-house visit.

A top-150 national prospect, Ohio State plucked Kevin Clayton out of the northernmost parts of New England. Clayton combines a strong base with a quick first step at the snap and good defensive skills against the running game.

If he's going to stay outside at defensive end, Clayton may need to work on having more than one move, as his bull rush is significantly stronger than his rip or swim.

Clayton did not receive any other offers, though he did have early interest from Clemson.

:4star:

Ohio State dips once again into the growing pipeline of Missouri, bringing the top player from the state to Columbus. Cole Cohen is a 6'2 cornerback with an impressive first step and back pedal, and for a high school senior he's impressive with changing directions. He may lack the top speed of other corners, but should grow faster after joining a strength and conditioning program at Ohio State.

Cohen is currently better in single coverage, but should adapt to the Buckeyes' zone scheme.

Cohen received early interest from Texas but was not receptive to their pitch.

Another talent from Missouri that's heading for Columbus, Curtis Brown is the #5 player from the state. Brown may not be the dominant road-grading type of lineman that Ohio State has pursued in recent years, but his 6'7 frame gives some room to grow and with an improvement in overall strength he should be an even better all-around prospect.

With a logjam of upperclassmen talent ahead of him, Brown will definitely redshirt next season, and should be the long-term backup or starter at left tackle.

Brown chose Ohio State over offers from Wisconsin and Michigan State.

Alex has the possibility to start at whichever position is necessary. Though he isn't necessarily needed at the RB position, he could undoubtedly come in and compete to start right off the bat. However depending on how these remaining vital recruits go, he could be needed at FS with the entire starting Secondary set to graduate at season's end.

Either way coaches' are happy to get him as he will offer dynamic ability at whichever position he is placed

With the signing of Billings last season, coaches' thought they would be set at the FB position. Brown simply could not be passed up however as he offers more than Billings and can definitely be incorporated into the Offense much better. Brown offers much more H-Back type ability as he can do it all. Run, block and catch the ball when needed.

He could see a redshirt his first year as starting FB Robertson is set to be a Senior next season.

Nate was a much much needed grab. With 4-year starter Shane Smart departing, a hole will be left at the Left Guard. Expect Nate to be a day 1 starter his 1st year on campus. He is a well balanced blocker who favors pass blocking but shouldn't take too long to improve on his run blocking which will be needed in LSU's scheme.

Some more important recruits left to snag that could make or break this recruiting class. Alot of holes left to fill.

The ones that got away ...

Notre Dame signed an FB this week that I've been pursuing with full points all season. That's a bad beat, especially only a week before my visit (AND THEY LOST!!!!!). But now that he's gone, and I'm looking closer at his ratings, I'm not sure what I saw that had my head in the clouds. Maybe I just ignored his slow-as-molasses Acceleration ratings. I mean, his Trucking is excellent and I know (since I faced G) that would have come in handy. But it's not like this guy was going to be all world as a freshman.
http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/ac330/jeffhc/FB_Jacob_Hendrix_zpspa1rv079.png

This is an ATH that I saw late last season and didn't have enough Offseason Points (or, rather, couldn't risk losing my other targets) to beat Arkansas. Very intriguing, as he's basically a DB in an OLBs body. Wasn't exactly sure where I was going to put him, but I was definitely considering putting him at MLB, not putting him anywhere in the depth chart, and then using him for Special Teams and Dime/Quarters only. Arkansas has him at OLB.

That FB isn't bad at all. Solid ratings for a running FB. Trucking is definitely a nice thing to have, as everyone seems to run through tackles every game.

Daniel Thompson is Ohio State's quarterback of the future. It's that simple. With current backup Jason Roberson graduating after this season, Thompson is easily the heir apparent to the Buckeye signal caller position after the eventual graduation of current starter Torrance Gibson.

Thompson is of a slightly different mold than the last few Buckeye quarterbacks, though he will come to Columbus very similar to former starter, and Heisman third-place finisher, Marcus Avery. Thompson's legs are not his strength, unlike Gibson, but Thompson can run enough to be a threat on the read option. Thompson is likely to redshirt unless the Buckeyes need him because of injury next season.

Thompson chose Ohio State over scholarship offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Boise State, Idaho, New Mexico State, and Washington.

A former five-star recruit that spent the last two seasons improving his academics at Erie Community College, Walter Ford is a powerful runner that will be a solid addition to the Buckeyes inside running game.

With the impending graduation of all-time Ohio State leading rusher Kris Davis, the Buckeyes are looking to reload at running back. Drew Thornton has been a dependable change-of-pace runner, but is better on the edge than between the tackles. Ford can bring the power between the tackles instead.

Ford did not receive interest from any other schools.

Bobby Walters is a complete unknown. Seriously, a total enigma. Walters insists to Ohio State coaches, media, and recruitniks across the country that he's an offensive lineman. But nobody has ever seen game fim of him playing the position. Even his junior college coaches simply shrug when asked about Walters skills in the trenches.

So Ohio State coaches will be waiting until Walters enrolls next summer to assess his skills. But with Walters being only one of a potential four offensive linemen in this year's class, the Buckeyes can afford to wait.

Walters chose Ohio State over a scholarship offer from Penn State.

Another year, and another JUCO CB comes in Ohio State's class. Though this time, the JUCO won't be staying at cornerback. With depth issues at free safety and a logjam at corner, Antwan Williams will be expected to move to safety and bring his experience to that position.

Williams will come in with some of the best coverage skills in the Buckeyes' defensive backfield, and also should be able to turn his hips and keep up with deep threats.

Another road-grading offensive lineman for the Buckeyes, Mike Newton comes from Wheeling, West Virginia as an average 3-star recruit. But the Buckeyes see potential in him, especially in his run blocking technique and ability to make an impact with his blocks.

Newton lacks the agility found in a typical tackle at the next level, so expect him to slide to the center position. With two solid Junior centers in front of him, Newton will redshirt next season.

Newton chose the Buckeyes over his home-state Mountaineers.

The final (we think) offensive lineman in this year's Ohio State class, Rodney Bush comes to Columbus with the most to prove out of those recruits. He's the lowest rated, as a 2-star, and had the lowest scouting ratings among the group at the Buckeyes camps over the summer. But the Ohio State coaches see someone that may not be an instant starter but could be a contributer in year 3 or 4, as with several other Buckeye linemen in recent history that have waited until their senior year to step into that role.

Bush will probably be a right-tackle long term, and, barring disaster, absolutely will redshirt next season.

Bush chose Ohio State after a recruiting competition with Ball State.

Ohio State is building a reputation for impressive specialists in the punting and kicking games, and Sean Smith has heard the call.

The #2 punter in the country, Smith will travel all the way from southeastern Washington state to the capital city of Ohio.

Smith's punts may not travel quite as far, but it's possible. Camp scouts raved all season about Smith's incredible power. Though he does need some work in the accuracy department.

Carl Bentley will be entering his senior season at punter next season, so Smith will have to wait a year before demonstrating his ability. Expect Smith to possibly take over kickoff duties as well once he sees the field.

Inexplicably, the #2 punter in the country received no interest from any other school.

JUCO JR
Yet another former five-star that has gone the JUCO route finds their way to Columbus. Under Coach Jeff HCross, the Buckeyes have seen some success with JUCO players, even quarterbacks. Heisman candidate Marcus Avery was one such player, finishing third in the Heisman balloting in his first season in Columbus.

Jon Norwood shouldn't be expected to repeat that performance next season, with Torrance Gibson expected to return to lead the Buckeyes for the third straight season.

However, with the impending graduation of backup Jason Roberson, expect Norwood to compete for the backup job this fall. Should he lose that competition, expect him to redshirt the season, barring injury to either Gibson or the other backup candidate, David Cox.

Norwood chose Ohio State over an offer from Iowa.

Parrish is the type of receiving threat that the coaches were looking for as a replacement for outgoing Avery Smiley at Tight End. He's not exceptional at blocking but he can work on that over the next year or two before he's needed to start.

Parrish will redshirt his first year and possibly start his second year on campus.

Akron, Georgia State, Wake Forest, Florida State

Love was definitely the key target for the Gators once the offseason rolled around. With great strength and excellent power moves for a young player, he's got the makings of matching or exceeding the career of DT Scott Dixon.

Love will redshirt his first year on campus but will be needed immediately during his second year.

LSU wraps up it's recruiting class with two of it's most prized recruits in Myers and Easley. Myers was the #2 FS in the country.

Solid class, but need more like it to contend with the top teams that ooze talented players
