2017 LSU Tigers

Last season the Tigers had another season end with a bowl loss, but still put together a winning season and improve. Honestly the last 2 seasons have been over achievements given the way the team's roster have looked.

For the 2017 season there is more excitement and optimism that the team can put together another successful season, hopefully ending with a bowl win. With the departure of many of the team's top talented players, including QB Jeff Mosley and Doak Walker Award winner Donovan Gray, the team faces many unknowns.

The Tigers currently have only 1 QB on the roster who as played in an actual game in Chad Collier, who seen some backup duty in 2015 in a few games. Starting will be QB John Brown who redshirted his Freshman season and brings a new element to the Offense that the team hasn't had in a starting QB. The ability to run which should help the Tigers rushing attack and Offense as a whole the team hopes for.

Much like the QB's, the Tigers will be fielding some very inexperienced players in the backfield except for 2-year starting RB Rich Robertson who is primarily a run blocker. Randall did see some carries to give Donovan a breather but not very many. RS Freshman David Holiday will relieve Randall to add a 1-2 punch and some playmaking ability with his speed. Morgan also will factor in some way to hopefully add a dynamic Backfield in the rushing attack. Incoming Freshman FB Kevin Billings will be integrated into the Offense as it gives us the ability to have a rushing and blocking FB to add into the mix.

With the graduation of John Diggs, the already rather talent thin WR position took a hit. Then the transfer of :4star" redshirt Freshman Matt Noble would was going to be our #2 WR set the group back. Even with All-American WR John Davis. Robinson will be looked to step up in taking the #2 spot and the not flashy talented WR in Lonnie Potts who redshirted his Freshman year. it will be a collective effort with the group, moreso than it has in the past.

Brooks will look to have an even bigger impact in the Offense now that he will take over as TE in all formations. Brooks only earned spot duty in passing formations last season as he started getting more playing time by the 7 game in the season. From there he emerge as a playmaker at the TE spot and looks to have an even bigger impact this upcoming season which has coaches excited.

Though the Offensive Line comes in experienced having all played together for 3-4 years except Guard Paul Jefferson, the group is still raw. the Offensive Coordinator will still need to be creative as this OL won't over power it's competition week in and week out.

It gets more depressing by the position group. Losing Cole to graduation hurt as he was a playmaker for the group earning him Best DL last season in the nation. Coaches hoped to move past DE Johnny Rhodes back down to DE but some paperwork was mixed up not allowing it. He was going to start at LE. The group will need to play lights out to be effective and get some help from the LB's and Secondary.

The "stars" the team is the LB Group. As a unit last season the trio of LB's collectively added 11 interceptions and 17 sacks. Which doesn't include the 5 total touchdowns the unit scored. All 3 were selected as All-Americans and return as one of the best units in the nation. They will be looked to help lead the Defense and hopefully wreck havoc like they did last season. The future MLB in waiting will be Thibodeaux as the Coaches are drooling over his physical attributes and see how it translates on the field. He will redshirt his first year on campus.

The most talented of the team and most experienced players on the team. The group that all came in together and have been starting since the day they stepped foot on campus. This unit looks to make plays on the backend and hopefully slow down some passing attacks or atleast make teams pay when they do throw.

Keller will take over return duties this season and hope to contribute some playmaking ability in the return game. He will also be the punt returner. Keller has the ability to make big plays and hopefully flip the field in our favor this season

Looking over the roster again in depth last night

The WR corp isn't as bad as it seems, though not alot of speedsters in the group they are decent in route running ability and catching.

Probably the biggest question mark is who will step up in the RB group.
