Personally, I think 4K is stupid and it MAY flop. The human eye cannot pick up the diff between 1080p and 4K unless: (1) you sit ridiculously close to the screen; and/or (2) you have a HUGE screen - 100+ inches

Meh - honestly I'm a big Plasma guy due to the great picture quality but sadly the plasma is dead. Which means I won't buy another big t.v. for 10+ years until the price of OLED comes down to getting a great set for under $1K. I still need to upgrade 1 set for either the master bedroom or guest bedroom as my old 32 inch standard def tv is NOT making the move in 5 months because it literally weighs 100+ lbs.

I've often wondered what else it improves, this "human eye" was a big argument for Flight Simulator. With Flight Simulator 2004 you could set your frames per second to 0- unlimited, however the argument was the human eye can't see any difference above 30. They would say setting the frame rate above 30 would hinder your machines performance elsewhere.

Then Flight simulator 2006 (FSX) came out and it required more PC to handle the game. My rig can run FS9 on "unlimted" frame rate and FSX it can run at 30 and I see no stuttering or other glitches, if I bump it up closer to unlimited I will see some stuttering or blurring. I don't know if this is b/c the video card is then trying to process a lot more but my human eye could see a difference.

So, I don't know if the human eye can or cannot detect a difference between 1080P and 4K but I'd be more interested to know what other processes are happening so you can see a difference, i.e. like JB said the refresh rate. Maybe 4K means the monitor/t.v. is using its resources more efficiently so in the end it will run and look smoother/more crisp.

My 2 cents.

Edit: maybe it's like my brother says, he's always amazed with my 1080P t.v. when we watch football, he says, "Man are you wanting to see the sweat dripping off them?" He's amazed at how clear the picture is....maybe a 4K t.v. will let you see the sweat on the sweat!
