View Full Version : Is There Any Reason for a NCAA "Only" Fan to Buy Madden 15?
I've given this some thought recently and I just don't see any reason why your "average" NCAA fan (like myself) should buy Madden 15.
Here are (some of) my reasons:
There seems to be ZERO focus/emphasis on improving the franchise experience which is my #1 gameplay mode
I only play MUT for the trophies and found it to be quite boring honestly as I had to play nothing but randoms and guys have that have teams of nothing but 99 OVRs
I don't have a NFL team that I "root" for
I think the college game is better than the NFL game due to varying styles of play
I enjoy recruiting over the draft
I enjoy the Coaching Carousel building up from an OC/DC of a small school to HC at a big school - that isn't offered at all in madden
I don't see many gameplay improvements (and just generally do not believe that the defense is improved of if it is they will F it up when they patch it due to complaints from the casuals that its too hard to score)
There are too many better games to spend my time/money with
There is always GameFly
Thoughts? Agree/Disagree? EA hasn't even tempted me (or even made an effort) to my knowledge to convince a NCAA "only" guy (like myself) that Madden is worth it. It just feels like EA is taking "us" for granted saying well its the only football game in town take it or leave it.

Good question to ask. In all honesty I see ZERO reason for NCAA fans to buy madden for their football fix. I would buy both games pretty much everyyear as I love football. However, hands down NCAA was the best of the best. Dynasty was so deep and you always felt connected to the league. Madden's franchise mode is fairly dull and very isolating. While I think CFM does a lot of good stuff, it is nowhere near as good as NCAA dynasty mode.
I want Madden to adopt:
OC/DC coordinators
Coach skills
ESPN half-time show
coaching carousel
formation subs
The only thing that Madden has really added from NCAA is the matchup stick 2.0. Yes it's a great feature but is it enough to justify the purchase? Personally I will be buying Madden 15 as per usual but I would not expect a lot of NCAA alma mater to do the same unless they love both leagues.

It should play just like or better than NCAA 14. If you like that then you will like this my opinion.
All that was mentioned is just like NCAA except with college teams (and of course the Dynasty features)
The Read Option is used by people just as much as it is in NCAA and it's just as effective. That's really only style difference I notice between the two, and the overused No Huddle I've seen in NCAA that I got wore out on against this random I tried playing online.
The past 2 versions of each offered the same amount of Defense...none lol
If this version has even the slightest upgrade it will be better than both the last NCAA and Madden.

From a gameplay perspective I agree with you. The games have always played pretty similar. However, I think the majority of people who played NCAA did so for the dynasty and that is not replicated in Madden's CFM.

That can take the game much further absolutely.
That can make the fame actually if you are willing to put up with it. However game play wise they aren't night and day. Only different teams and smaller players

I think you need to wait until late August, when football gets back in your blood and the temptation to resit becomes real. Although if you have Gamefly that seems to be a perfect rental to see if you like all the changes.

That's what NCAA 14 is for.

I know. ;)
EA added the player lock camera, matchup stick and no huddle.
The biggest reason to buy the game is that it's the latest and greatest football game. It will also be the only next gen football game and will look better than NCAA 14. I just hope they fixed the big flaws from m25. The franchise mode isn't as fun as NCAA but it's better than it used to be.

No franchise mode like the PS2 days means I don't give a flying fuck about Madden. Implement something like that and then I MIGHT pay attention.

Man I do miss the Tony Bruno radio show and the practice mode for the key plays the opposing team like to run for that week's game. The Madden/2k rivalry really created some great, innovative stuff on the old ps2.

Yup and even those weren't the greatest. 2k definitely helped push Madden in a good direction at the end of the PS2's lifecycle, but then EA bought the NFL rights, 2k disappeared, and Madden has been kinda blah since then.

I don't need a football fix. I'm good playing NCAA '14 offline for a long time to come. I may get last year's Madden just to import draft classes and simulate a franchise but that'll be the only way a purchase a Madden game. I only watch the Saints and even then, I'm a casual follower. I'm a far bigger fan of Saturday football.
Sometimes having a different game is a nice break from the other. I'm personally sick of theShow. Playing MLB 2K13 helps me with variety.

It's funny because I am running my UNLV dynasty from NCAA 14 but each passing month I am finding it more difficult to play. The graphics as compared to Madden on 4 as well as the College Football Playoff have impacted my willingness to play and I suspect after Madden 15 releases I will find even less time for NCAA. Add to that my new appreciation for The Show... how much time will I put into NCAA moving forward???

I haven't upgraded to the new generation yet so my eyes have yet to acclimatize to prettier things. I'm not a fan of the 4-team playoff. My preference is 16 teams (EVERY conference champ and wild cards to fill in the gaps. First round played before bowls with 1st round losers able to get into bowls). I don't care about not having the playoff. I wish there was a way to fix the logic that determines what games are GotW but that's small potatoes.
I recently started my dynasty completely over doing something that'll REALLY make the game a challenge from the beginning. As a coordinator, I let the CPU do all the recruiting. That should keep me from developing a small school into a powerhouse in 6 years.

I'm enjoying it though as long as Powerhouse is still going, enjoy playing with the group in it
But the game itself wasn't going to keep me, that's why I didn't have it for more than a month originally

Siming a season shit takes for ever. You gotta do it week by week not by a full a season like you can in NCAA. Madden really needs to change that. I wanted to do that for x360 but damn it took too long for one season to get the draft classes.

In fairness he said "a season shit" so apparently ONLY ONE shit of his takes forever to sim. Hopefully, he brings lots of reading material to the WC otherwise that would be quite boring.

It is a great idea and EA should jump on that and the shitting reference. Move over making a sandwich while you wait for something to install to the hard drive, hello releasing that sandwich as you simulate a season. Finally the Browns can make it to the Super Bowl, while you are simulating Madden in another room.
When you simulate, you gotta evacuate.
So.... thinking about this the only way I buy this year's Madden is if we get a small group of guys together for an Online Franchise (or whatever the hell they call it). Otherwise, its GameFly whore out the easy :plat: and back in the mail ya go.
Semi-related here I suppose - I have/had (cannot remember the last time I upped) EA Season Ticket. Is that even a thing anymore? I.e. can I download Madden 15 the weekend before on PS4 to see if I want to buy it or not?

Yeah I am pretty sure the season ticket died with last year's game release. However, you could check the EA Sports app on ps3 and see if it lists anything???
Well I checked my PS3 and my subscription has expired and did not renew. Checking the website and the app there was ZERO info about the upcoming games so I guess the idea died without any fan fare.

It didn't renew by itself that I recall CLW
You always had to manually renew it ypurself, especially since they went to the app format last 2 versions.
After playing NCAA lately I do like that Madden's package substitution method is so much better and smoother/faster. Here lately I have been skipping past the one I want and just saying F it and not using it. I've always hated that.
That and I don't think you can make formation subs at the play call screen that I know of

Or, you can do the exact opposite and just wait and see. There's no penalty for getting it on day 15 as opposed to day 1.

All I"m saying is you either wanna rent or buy the game there should be no debating about it . Also if you don't like Madden all that much then just rent it for the trophies as it seems CLW wants to do only that. So not that hard.
