Yep this just sounds amazing with an "infinite" universe to explore. I'm not sure how one programs for something like that but assuming its true that is one impressive feat.

FPS flying/driving games don't/haven't done that to me. IT's something about the "dash board" of the ships/cars that keeps me from getting sick. The question is can I get to a ship quickly enough before I ?

I don't imagine it will be that hard as it usually takes a good 5-10 minutes before I start feeling it and I suspect I could last 30 minutes before having to puke.

Honestly beginning to wonder if this game will ever be released... Now the discussion is late Q3 of 2015.

Update:

"No Man's Sky" is a game about exploration and survival in an infinite procedurally generated galaxy, according to Hello Games' official description. Australia's Play Magazine has given some great insights into how infinite the game's galaxy truly is. The magazine's article has listed the number of planets in huge universe of "No Man Sky" to be 18,446,744,073,709,551,616. Every person on Earth will have to discover 73 planets per minute for life in order to discover all those planets. The magazine also expects the game to be released in the third quarter of 2015.

No Man’s Sky does not have a traditional story with cutscenes and a predefined hero. Like Minecraft and Terraria, the player creates and defines their own experience.
Planets are planet sized. You can spend days exploring just one world, experiencing its day and night cycles while walking its surface or flying through the sky in your spaceship (or jet pack)
Once you discover a planet, you can change its randomly generated name to whatever you want. The same goes for any creatures you find on its surface.
Although you're free to do what you want in No Man's Sky, there are consequences for your actions. If you kill too many creatures or deplete a planet's valuable resources, your “wanted” level will go up, and the planet’s “Sentinels” will come after you. If you pick a fight in space, the space police will come after you. And if you pick a fight with them, prepare to take on the military.

Almost everything in the game can be upgraded: shields, ships, weapons, and even your spacesuit.
There are three basic gameplays styles: exploring, trading, and fighting.
If you die in the game, you'll lose any information you did not save to "The Atlus", a giant computer that records your progress and can be accessed via a planet's beacons.
You can literally craft items on an atomic level by using blueprints you find in the game.
Even when the game "ends" (i.e.making it to the center of the galaxy) you can continue to explore worlds for as long as you want.
You can share your discoveries online by uploading information to The Atlus, which will allow friends to see everything you've discovered in the game.

If the wildlife is extremely varied, this will be amazing.

On top of that you're discovering new elements and chemicals and such too. Not just wildlife. But I agree. There has to be some wild shit on far away planets to make it interesting.

They can price it however they want but until the game is released and how content filled it is, speculation on pricing is natural thing. Especially for a game that has been delayed so often and many people have no clue as to what exactly you are doing. I will not pre-order it because the game has yet to show me it is worth doing so. Tons of hype, then silence, rinse and repeat.

I do not need some random youtube douche bag to tell me otherwise.

The ambitious space exploration game No Man's Sky has reportedly been pushed back from its expected June release date.

Sources close to Kotaku have reported that No Man's Sky has been pushed to "at least" July or August. It was originally expected to launch on the PlayStation 4 and Steam on June 21.

Kotaku had an initial "reliable" source who reported the delay, while a second source working at retailer GameStop said their store was instructed to cover up any mention of June 21 on No Man's Sky marketing materials with a "Coming Soon" label. Photographic proof was provided.

There is an article speculating that a potential lawsuit may lead to a(nother) delay for No Man's Sky.

No Man's Sky has had plenty of problems leading up to its release. The developers had their studio flooded on Christmas Eve of December 2013 (nearly again in January 2014), game was delayed, and then it was revealed that the developers at Hello Games had been having a secret lawsuit over the word 'Sky.'

According to a report from Telegraaf, a Dutch based company is claiming that Hello Games borrowed their "superformula" that allows the procedurally generated game to generate the world around them. This is despite the fact that the Dutch based company has not seen the games code, they have simply heard about the game.

"We haven't provided a license to Hello Games", states Jeroen Sparrow from the Dutch based company Genicap, who emphasizes that the licensing system is put in place to protect its customers. "We don't want to stop the launch, but if the formula is used we'll need to have a talk."

Sean Murray has stated that Hello Games' No Man's Sky is using a "superformula."

In an interview with Business Insider (via NeoGaf) last year, Murray discussed using a formula from a Belgium-based plant geneticist named Johan Gielis. According to Geilis, his "superformula" was "a modified version of the equation for a circle" that allowed a computer to generate a generous amount of natural shapes (like animals, shells, snowflakes and more).

Unfortunately, Geilis is a part of the Dutch company - he's the CRO and he has patented the application of the "superformula." Geilis could only patent the application, considering patenting mathematical formulas isn't allowed.

A guy on OS always gets games early and got that copy for $150. Then sold it on eBay for $1250 I thought to the new guy. That is Flightwhite now known as Campmamba24 on OS. I'm sure he will have another copy soon. Never fails.

I think Jaymo views the graphics as weak and this as more of an indie title. But it's been developed and promoted for a long time. And there are tons of people looking forward to it. Some are getting ps4 just for this game. This game probably isn't for me but their is massive hype surrounding it. Definitely going to cash in at full price.

The issue is that it's a full aaa price for an Indy title. Steeler quoted the US price. In Canada it's an astronomical $79.99! I will still buy it. I'm just not sold on why it's so expensive.

Following the leak, some fans have suggested that the game can be completed in around 30 hours - despite the developer's claims that it could take "hundreds" of hours to finish.

Players begin the game at the edge of a universe that is said to be populated with 18.4 quintillion planets.

This 2010 article (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2010-10-12-hello-sean-interview) says they expanded from four to eight following the development of Joe Danger and then towards a "new project" - presumably No Man's Sky.

At least then (unsure about now), they had no PR or marketing which may explain why they - from what I've seen - have handled the issues of the last week very poorly, with no communication and not getting in front of rumors/speculation.

Just a thought...

I wonder if the reason (among others listed) that this guy got through the game so quickly is that there are virtually no other players right now.

It could be that, when you have hundreds of thousands of users, you may come to a planet every now and then that has had alot of resources mined from it. Even if they are renewable, that could create some challenge in and of itself.

That said, I'm in the "wait and see" boat too. I want this game to be good but I'm still very skeptical.

According to the developer chances of finding another player is slim to none. Even if you are on the same planet as another person, the planets sizes are as big as real life planets.

But what if you are not the first person to go to a particular planet and many of the resources have been moved already?

From my understanding (I'd have to try to find the article again), the planets are not "Earth-sized". They're much, much smaller. Maybe I'm wrong about that though.

According to the article they say they are the size of real planets. They also mention that anything you do to a planet, digging materials, killing animals, destroying things only affects your local save. So what you have mined, will be available to others. The only thing people will see in regards to other players interactions are if you are the first person to discover (planet or creature) and name it. People will see that you were the one who discovered it.

Fair enough.

This article says that suggests that planets are much smaller (78.5 square miles is the estimate they give for one they saw at E3 though adding that they may be bigger at release). That's what I was going off of.

From the article that I posted above:

This game would be pretty boring if all those 18 quintillion planets were uninhabited and uninteresting, but luckily Hello Games is designing them to be both diverse in landscape and in life. Don't expect to find life on every planet, or even most of them, though: Hello Games has confirmed that there'll be simple life (plants, maybe small animals) on about 10 percent of the planets. Complex life will show up less frequently, on about 1 percent of the planets. But very complex life--civilizations, perhaps--will only appear on roughly 1 in 100 million planets.

It has been confirmed there will be no DLC. The title will be upgraded after the release though. Sorta like Minecraft, which is good since those updates are free.

Will there be DLC?

When I asked Sean Murray about his post-launch agenda, he said there weren't plans for DLC, but Hello Games would continue to update No Man's Sky after release.

"There's things, post-release, that would be really exciting for the game that we could see how people were playing and iterate on that," he told me. "This is definitely a game for updates. And actually, content-wise, DLC is less applicable."

In fact, the first update is already being worked on, before the game has even come out.

Game update 1.03 will be available at launch.

Notes:
When we went gold five or six week ago, we posted on twitter, and literally every reply was like “hope you are going on a nice holiday!”. Some of us have, but I didn’t want to, not yet. I pictured myself somewhere staring out the window thinking about this game I’ve been working on for five years.
We’re under a pretty intense spotlight right now, and hopefully it’s easy to imagine how hard it would be to switch off from that, or how deeply we care about people’s first impression of the game.
In fact most of us were back here the day after we went gold, working on this update. We’re already proud of what we put on a disk, but if we had time, why not continue to update it?

Hello Games will continually update No Man’s Sky this way. This is the first of many.

It will be available on Monday for press for review once it exits submission, and on launch for public on PC and PS4. We expect future updates like these to continue to be free.

For 99.9% of people, all you have to do is install the update before you begin to play.
If you had an early copy somehow, your save game will technically work post update, but you will miss out on new content and experiences if you don’t delete your save before updating (should be obvious why from notes below). We highly recommend deleting your save if you have played before updating your game (we won’t do this in future, but it’s a day zero update).

Servers will be wiped on Sunday and again Monday in the lead up to launch.

Beware these notes contain some spoilers. Here are some things our little team has been up to over the last four or five weeks:

The Three Paths – there are now new, unique “paths” you can follow throughout the game. You must start the game on a fresh save, with the patch, as early choices have significant impact on what you see later in the game, and the overall experience.
The Universe – we changed the rules of the universe generation algorithm. Planets have moved. Environments have changed biomes. Galaxies have altered shape. All to create greater variety earlier. Galaxies are now up to 10x larger.
Diversity – Creatures are now more diverse in terms of ecology and densities on planets.
Planets – we’ve added dead moons, low atmosphere and extreme hazardous planets. Extreme hazards include blizzards and dust storms.
Atmosphere – space, night time and day skies are now 4x more varied due to new atmospheric system, which refracts light more accurately to allow for more intense sunsets.
Planet rotation – play testing has made it obvious people are struggling to adjust to this during play so it’s effects have been reduced further…
Terrain generation – caves up to 128m tall are now possible. Geometric anomalies have been added. Underwater erosion now leads to more interesting sea beds.
Ship diversity – a wider variety of ships appear per star system, and are available to purchase. Cargo and installed technology now vary more, and ships have more unique attributes.
Inventory – ship inventories now store 5 times more resources per slot. Suit inventories now store 2.5 times more per slot. This encourages exploration and gives freedom from the beginning. We’re probably going to increase this even further in the next update, for people in the latter game phases, and will allow greater trading potential.
Trading – trading is deeper. Star systems and planets each have their own wants and needs, based off a galactic economy. Observing these is the key to successful trading. We still working on adjusting this based on how everyone plays, but all trading values have been rebalanced across the galaxy, giving a greater depth. A bunch of trade exploits were uncovered and have been removed
Feeding – creatures now have their own diet, based on planet and climate. Feeding them correctly will yield different results per species, such as mining for you, protecting the player, becoming pets, alerting you to rare loot or pooping valuable resources.
Survival – recharging hazard protection requires rare resources, making shielding shards useful again. Storms can be deadly. Hazard protection and suit upgrades have been added. Liquids are often more dangerous
Graphical effects – Lighting and texture resolution have been improved. Shadow quality has doubled. Temporal AA didn’t make it in time, but it’s so close
Balancing – several hundred upgrades have had stat changes (mainly exo-suit and ship, but also weapon), new upgrades have been added.
Combat – Auto Aim and weapon aim has been completely rewritten to feel more gentle in general, but stickier when you need it. Sentinels now alert each other, if they haven’t been dealt with quickly. Quad and Walker AI is now much more challenging, even I struggle with them without a powered up weapon.
Space Combat – advanced techniques have been introduced, like brake drifting and critical hits. Bounty missions and larger battles now occur. Pirate frequency has been increased, as well as difficulty depending on your cargo.
Exploits – infinite warp cell exploit and rare goods trading exploit among other removed. People using these cheats were ruining the game for themselves, but people are weird and can’t stop themselves ¯\_(シ)_/¯
Stability – foundations for buildings on super large planets. Resolved several low repro crashes, in particular when player warped further than 256 light years in one session (was only possible due to warp cell exploit above).
Space Stations – interiors are now more varied, bars, trade rooms and hydroponic labs have been added
Networking – Ability to scan star systems other players have discovered on the Galactic Map, increasing the chance of collision. Star systems discovered by other players appear during Galactic Map flight
Ship scanning – scanning for points of interest from your ship is now possible. Buildings generate earlier and show up in ship scans
Flying over terrain – pop-in and shadow artefacts have been reduced. Generation speed has been increased two fold (planets with large bodies of water will be targeted in next update)
Writing – The Atlas path has been rewritten by James Swallow (writer on Deus Ex) and me. I think it speaks to the over-arching theme of player freedom more clearly now. Early mission text has been rewritten to allow for multiple endings.

I grew up reading Carmack’s .plan files for Quake, so it’s fun to be writing one of my own :)

Next up we’re adding the ability to build bases and own giant space freighters. Temporal AA and my new cloud rendering tech should be coming soon too. It will really change the game again, and enhance it visually.

This universe we’ve built is a pretty large canvas, we’ve got a lot of ideas. This is the type of game we want to be.

Love,
Sean

Well it looks like No Man's Sky has been officially preloaded. My son is on the PS4 and the first tile is No Man's Sky. The countdown is on.

I have it pre ordered from Eb games as well. Picking it up Tuesday at lunch. I may even give this game a shot.

I think it will sell very well and get metacritic scores in the 70s. The potential to be repetitive and boring worries me. Hopefully they keep patching things.

planets have a wider diversity of creatures, and those creatures now have a diet, where proper feeding enables their assistance.

Wonder if that means a species could become extinct.

The chances of two players ever crossing paths in a universe this large is pretty much zero.

To be super clear - No Man's Sky is not a multiplayer game. Please don't go in looking for that experience.

Yes they are named and only the person who discovers the planet first can rename them. If you do come across a planet that has been discovered by another player it will show the username that discovered it and go by the name they gave to it, assuming they renamed it.

Well I put in close to 6 hours tonight. I was streaming for Steeler and a few others until about 2 hours in when I lost my internet connection. However, that didn't stop me. In my time I have explored three planets and one space station. I have just assembled my hyper drive so I can start some big jumps soon. This game is a lot of fun and I am really enjoying it. It's definitely not a play everyday type of game and the exploration can become rather tedious. However, right now I am having a blast. This game isn't for everyone. I think you will either love it or hate it. If you don't like exploring and hours of going around in circles, then stay away. This game is not meant to be played quickly. The key is taking your time to fully explore each and every world as you journey through the stars.

I am most enjoying cataloging new species. Most I keep the game name. However, some I cannot help myself. For example, I was killed by a vicious predator that frankly looked like a beaver. Hence, I named the species Beavus Chompus in his honour. I also have a dead, deserted miserable chunk of rock planet... Rams Planet.

Pros:
-the concept of the game
-visuals~ some planets are amazing!
-sounds
-cataloging flora and fauna
-discovering and naming planets
-crafting new gear/items
-simplified trade
-biggest game map EVER! (the star field is phenomenal!!!)

Cons:
-no dialogue
-repetitive nature of destroying things to gain resources
-all planets have some type of life/sentries/bases
-no ship colour customization

I will discuss it more tomorrow. I need to go to bed. I'm exhausted!

I'm still not certain that this game is for me but I'll probably end up buying it anyway for my daughter. I don't see her again until the 17th so there's not a big rush for me to get it. Unless, something game-breaking crops up between now and the 16th, I'll probably buy it then so it will be installed before she comes to my house.

Today I spent 2 hours exploring one planet. I found everything except one species. I looked everywhere. The one thing I don't like about the game is that the map on the planet sucks! It's difficult to easily find things after you leave them.

Game is interesting but buggy. Two freezes in less than an hour. My daughter had to travel forever for this stuff to fix her engine. Finally gets it, mines it and then freeze. Stuff is lost. There is only one save slot and you don't even control it! It's autosave only at certain points making this worse. The lack of control over saves is dumb.

Guys, my daughter fixed her ship and flew to another planet. This game really doesn't teach you much. I know some like that but knowing how to use turbo or pulse rockets was not explained well in game. How do you find a space station?

And Jaymo that mini review by polygon wasn't even that bad and echoes a lot of people as well. I think many of us knew this game would be polarizing and certainly not for everyone.

No Man’s Sky’s first few seconds baffle new PS4 owners (http://www.polygon.com/2016/8/9/12412452/no-mans-sky-opening-press-square)

Some players thought the game froze. Others thought it was still loading or downloading. Turns out it was simply waiting for the player to hold the square button.

"Saw this guy streaming a few days back, he reset his PS4 cause he thought it had crashed lol."

"WTF WASTED 10 MINUTES OF MY LIFE!"

"I just bought a PS4 to play No Man’s Sky, usually an Xbox guy so when I seen the square I didn’t think of the button lol."

"Honestly, I had to move my couch closer to my 50" TV because that square looked so tiny I just thought it was a logo and I had to wait for the game to load. After 2 hours of playing (maybe it was 3), I moved my couch even closer. They sure did make the text as small as possible lol."

Speaking of multiplayer, I am perplexed. Rather than head towards the centre, I am free play and headed to the next closest system. I was the first to discover the galaxy (which I named after my cat, lol) However, in the middle of the galaxy I came across a grave marker. This is weird because it's not from my character. My character has not died in space yet there is a marker. I am wondering if it is from another player or a developer maybe?

I saw one too last night, then as I was heading to it I was cornered by some space pirates and I died :D but I was able to make it back to that grave and get my shit back.

I found a new type of sentinel last night too, it's kind of like a giant grasshopper that shoots a constant laser beam. I also landed on a planet where the sentinels were right on my ass the moment I got off the ship; which was interesting. I couldn't do anything without them attacking me.

Dumb question (maybe): What is "move and stack" in the Inventory area? It's not real clear on what I can or should do here.

Is it just for combining items when you don't have the max in one? IE: 300 of 500 Iron in Starship, move 200 of 500 Iron from Exosuit to ship, and then 'move and stack' together?

Last night I warped into a new system and I arrived in front of a planet with a number of ships in front of it. I then get a message from the planet saying "We are atlas. Come find us." I go to the planet and fly everywhere but the closet I can get is 16 minutes away. I am of the opinion that the Atlas I am looking for must be underground. The planet itself has a lot of storms. Within minutes the temperature goes from 25C to 96.6C and in a storm like that, my suit cannot hold up. I have been caught three times in major storms and barely survived each time just finding shelter in a cave or abandoned outpost. I will need to try and find a massive cave that I can fly into the mouth of so I know my ship is close before AI begin to explore.

Anyone else found Atlas stuff yet? Any helpful ideas?

The reason it shows up for you is that it is cached in your web browser. Clear the cache and you will see this.

Some places do not want you to hotlink images from their site, because it uses up their bandwidth and it turn can cost them more money. Thus not allowing them to get healthcare here in the US because some freeloading Canadian was too lazy to use imgur or other free hosting site. :P

So I finally found Atlas. I was then directed to fly into the stars and open my map. The map now shows a route to an Atlas Station. It's in the other direction of the centre of the galaxy.

Tool: 12 slots
Ship: 12 slots
Suit: 22 slots

I'm piling up the milestones. However, the upgrades are sooooo expensive
Tool: 16 slots
Ship: 16 slots
Suit: 28 slots

I just found the ultimate crack rock of Emeril. About 10 slots full of just that at 65k a slot!

Yes I am working towards my Atlas V2 card. A couple more warps and I'll be there.
