The original Homefront, released in 2011, told the all-too-plausible tale of a newly-reunited Korea’s invasion of the United States. Through some powerful--and horrific--imagery, the game wove an unsettling tale uncommon to the bombastic nature of modern first-person shooters.

Homefront was developed by the now-shuttered Kaos Studios. The rights to the game were sold to Crysis developer Crytek one year later after publisher THQ went bankrupt. This new Homefront, powered by the CryEngine, strikes the same tone as its predecessor, but takes that game's all-too-short campaign and opens it up with an all new open world design.

A gameplay reveal will take place Tuesday, June 10 during one of the two Deep Silver press conferences (12 & 12:30 PM CT).

I think a studio change will make this game the hit it should have been the first time around.

First one was greatly under-appreciated. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it had some of the smoothest connection quality of any last gen shooter. The only problem I ever had, which eventually got me to quit playing, was how big of a pain in the ass it was to party up with friends.

Also, the campaign was too short.

I liked the first game as well. Under-achieving, sure - but I had fun with it. My concern/thought here is that the game is basically the same name/IP and basic plot, but completely different from the original under the hood. Hopefully it maintains some aspects of the original.

The rumors have been swirling for weeks and it sounds like this one is in trouble (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/homefront-the-revolution-director-leaves-crytek-uk/1100-6421085/).

Homefront: The Revolution game director Hasit Zala is said to have left his position at developer Crytek UK.

According to a report from Kotaku citing sources familiar with the studio, its Development Manager Ben Harris has also left the company earlier this month. Harris’ departure is reflected by his Linkedin page, but Zala’s Linkedin says that he’s still with Crytek, though it could simply be outdated.

The news follows previous reports that 30 or more employees left Crytek UK since development on Homefront: The Revolution began in 2011, and that morale at the Nottingham-based studio is "low." One source said that the high turnover at Crytek UK is the result of staff not being paid on time on multiple occasions.

In June, Crytek also denied a report from German magazine GameStar, which claimed Crytek was close to bankruptcy.

Crytek, which purchased the Homefront series during THQ's bankruptcy auction in January 2013 for $544,000, officially announced Homefront: The Revolution leading up to E3 2014. The game is an open-world shooter set in a Philadelphia occupied by the North Korean military, and is scheduled to release in 2015 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Koch Media and its publishing arm Deep Silver have acquired the rights to the Homefront franchise, including rights to the in-development title Homefront: The Revolution and all of its assets.

This comes a year and a half after Crytek purchased the Homefront brand during the bankruptcy of publisher THQ. That’s something of a bitter irony now, as Crytek appears to be teetering on the brink of its own financial collapse.

Deep Silver will publish the upcoming video game under a new Nottingham-based in-house developer, Deep Silver Dambuster Studios. Dambuster is the third Koch Media developer, along with Deep Silver Volition and Deep Silver Fishlabs.

Well, long time no see. It's looking pretty darn good right now. Has a Far Cry 4 goes to Philly vibe.
