Gamespot: Beyond Earth Takes Civilization to the Stars (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/beyond-earth-takes-civilization-to-the-stars/1100-6418906/)
Humanity’s childhood has ended, the cradle of Earth abandoned so that we can find ourselves among the stars. As its name suggests, Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth leaves behind our collective past--which this long-running strategy series has so thoroughly documented--and turns its gaze skyward towards our future. Cast upon some unknown world, you will encounter alien life, push the limits of humanity, and inevitably come to blows with your fellow man over whose vision of the future is "correct." For fans of the 1999 classic Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri, this game has been a long time coming, and for the Civilization development team, it’s a liberating experience to finally be free from the constraints of history.

Gamespot: Beyond Earth: The Alpha Centauri Connection (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/beyond-earth-the-alpha-centauri-connection/1100-6418924/)
Back in 1999, Greg Foertsch, Jerome Atherholt, and Mike Bazzell were all artists working on Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri. Today, all three are still at Alpha Centauri developer Firaxis Games. Foertsch worked as the lead artist on XCOM: Enemy Unknown, while Atherholt and Bazzell are both working on the upcoming Beyond Earth. Together, they have an interesting perspective on how Firaxis’ latest project is different from both the Civilization series and fan-favorite Alpha Centauri. I caught up with this trio to learn more about these differences.

Polygon: Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth will take humanity to space this fall (http://www.polygon.com/2014/4/12/5600008/civilization-beyond-earth-trailer-screenshots-announcement-sid-meier) (with video)
Sid Meier's Civilization series is leaving home.
This fall on Linux, Mac and Windows PC for $49.99, Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth will take the strategy game beyond the confines of its home turf to an alien world that players will colonize and where they will forge a new future of humanity.
Polygon spoke with four of the upcoming game's developers to learn about the game, the challenges a new venture like this poses for those creating it and how escaping Earth's gravitational pull will change the long running series.

Time: Interview: Sid Meier's Civilization Beyond Earth Might Be the Alpha Centauri Sequel You've Been Waiting For (http://time.com/59516/sid-meiers-civilization-beyond-earth-might-be-the-alpha-centauri-sequel-youve-been-waiting-for/)
Could it mark the end of Firaxis' hard-sci-fi, turn-based, planet-bound 4X drought -- a true spiritual successor to one of the grandest, smartest turn-based strategy games ever made? We can hope.

PC Gamer: Civilization: Beyond Earth Interview - everything you need to know about the new factions, aliens, technology and more (http://www.pcgamer.com/2014/04/12/civilization-beyond-earth-interview-everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-new-factions-aliens-technology-and-more/)
Civilization: Beyond Earth has been announced. We're the first in the world outside of Firaxis to play it, and you'll be able to read my hands-on impressions in the next issue of PC Gamer UK. While I was at Firaxis, I had the chance to sit down with the two lead designers, Will Miller and David McDonough for a comprehensive hour-long chat about every aspect of Beyond Earth. Read on for details on Beyond Earth's affinities, its dramatic sci-fi tech research web, orbital gun platforms, alien Siege Worms, new high-concept win conditions and loads, loads more.
It's a great big interview, so we've split it into chunks. Here's what you'll find on each page, if you want to skip straight to a bit that interestes you.
Page 2: On building your own faction, merging narrative with game systems, and the three affinities that your civ can pursue.
Page 3: On the planet itself, what the different biomes will be like, alien life, the extreme technologies you can research on the new tech web and the new victory conditions.
Page 4: On AI, diplomacy, extreme espionage, the best units you can research and launching satellites that can shoot lasers.
Page 5: On Beyond Earth's science fiction influences, the design process and the legacy of Civilization.

This game is going to be a guaranteed day one purchase. From the articles that I've been reading (and have linked to here) and the videos I've found, this game is going to be amazing. And with it entering the complete unknown, instead of building up from the dawn of history like Civ V, Civ IV and the past games, how different everything is going to be, my God.

I'm not sure what to think right now. What I love about civilizations is exactly that, historical civilizations. This does sound interesting but I will reserve judgment until I see some game footage.

I think it'll be a good game and there is nothing wrong with some change. Civ V is still fresh and recent enough (with potentially a third expansion pack yet to go, if they release the same number for V as they did for IV), that, as someone on Civ's Facebook page said, this is the perfect time for Firaxis to take, if anything, a temporary turn from the traditional historical Civilization and turn to the future, take a chance on a spiritual sequel to Alpha Centauri, which is still highly regarded to this day despite being released clear back in 1999.
Civ V is still fresh, it's still fun, potentially a third expansion coming sometime. Civ IV is still extremely popular and played by many. If there was ever a time to take the chance on something like Beyond Earth, the time is definitely now.

Only slightly on topic - I saw where Civ Rev 2 was now available on IOS. I actually LOVED the PS3 version and wish it would come to PS4 as a downloadable title.

I liked Civ Revolution too. However, the crucial mistake with that game was the fact that it only took six hours or so to complete. Open it up and allow the games to run long like on cpus and it's a great experience.

I watched some video of this on twitch last week. I have to admit, it looks pretty damn good. I will be purchasing this game at some point this coming year.

Yeah, I'd love to get it day one, but it'd be a waste of money right now. My laptop is going to crap in regards to gaming. Too low of RAM and VRAM and I'm sure the video card and drivers can be classed ancient by now. Plus my hard drive is starting to go bad. Instead of paying a couple hundred getting a new hard drive and maybe some other repairs done, I may just save up and get a new laptop. I would consider trying my luck building a tower, but I have literally no place to put it and no place to use it and access it. With my current living space, it's laptop or nothing.
