SOE presidents dish out the details on their upcoming Survival Zombie MMO.

John Smedley detailed that their goal is to build a more consistent “world” than that of other zombie MMO titles like DayZ. He went on to say that this is a world and not just a single server hosting players, so expect the world to be huge – even bigger than what’s been done in Planetside 2. The game is also running off the same engine, with tweaks that Planetside 2 uses. The build shown during the livestream was a build back from January, and the team confirmed that they will be streaming a current build soon with the game being available to everyone in about 4 to 5 weeks time. The game will launch on PC, with the PS4 version “already decided” but no clear launch.

The game will allow players to fully customize their own character looks, with plenty of more customization options not yet detailed.

When asked how this game will be different from games like RUST or DayZ, Smedley once again reiterated that it’s a world and can host thousands of players at once. The frame-rate is stable, and the game allows players to build forts, mod weapons, and even interact with the environment such as torching a field (and other players). Unlike DayZ, in the current build of the game, when you die, you spawn with all your equipment, though this may change in the final build.

Smedley also stated that this game has one of the deepest crafting systems he has seen in any game and says that if players want to get something working, they need to find parts needed for those items. For example, if a player wants to get a car working, they need to find a battery, wheels, ect. in order to make it function properly. He states that this is pretty hardcore, and that Dark Souls players will most likely like this game. Player-vs-Player was heavily emphasize on.

And as stated, the game is free-to-play, though it will have microtransaction. It won’t be a Pay-to-Win scenario like many other F2P titles are.

Ran into some random friendlies and survived the longest yet at 3 hours. Having a mic is key to get randoms to join your group. We got to a town and got taken out by some guys with guns. I've yet to get a gun yet, just a bow.

Played some more of this last night. Killed a zombie; which was actually a player who reanimated. He had a TON of loot. So for the first time I had some sweet gear, and what happens? I get killed by two zombies I couldn't get away from :fp:

Yeah it will eventually be free to play, but right now it is $19.99 for early access on Steam. Totally worth it though as it works pretty well for being in Alpha. You get some extra goodies with the $19.99 though; however, I'm saving those goodies for later on down the road after they progress in the development.

It will eventually be on PS4, not sure when though.

I'm having a blast with it though, and a lot of people say it's better than DayZ; which is STILL in alpha.

H1Z1 is from Sony, so I'm guessing development will progress a lot better than DayZ has.

They must have added some drops in the patch today. First time I've found a motorcycle helmet, and have actually found 4 or 5 of them. Found three .45 pistols when I had never come across finding one. I'm in a town and remarkably still alive. For once I'm higher up in the food chain with a gun.

I heard just the new version is coming to consoles and if that is the case, that sucks. That is just going to be a FPS. Not the H1Z1 we all know.

H1Z1's Open Beta on PS4 begins Tuesday, May 22. I didn't get selected for the Closed Beta, so I'm looking forward to trying this one out.

Not bad, definitely feels more PUBG than Fortnite for those who are not familiar. It's not too bad, but Fortnite really has me hooked so it's hard to top that now.

I only played one game so far and it felt like all I did was run to stay away from the gas before ultimately getting shot from behind. I suppose it would feel different if I had gotten into a vehicle and gotten way ahead of it. After just one game (an unfair sample size), I wasn't very impressed or inclined to go back.

So I played seven games of the open beta last night. I'm actually the opposite of you on this one. I really like the look and feel of H1Z1 on PS4. I'm not really a fan of Fortnite as I don't like the gimmicky nature of the game but this is a game I would be interested in if people were up for multiplayer. I will say though that it's buggy and I got kicked out of the servers multiple times.
