Rap does take at least some lyrical skill, but rap also sucks in my opinion. Listened to some of it back in the 90s and early 2000s, mostly because some of my friends did and thus I had to listen to it when we'd be riding in their cars, but otherwise, never cared for it and probably never will.

I wouldn't consider myself dumb or easily influenced, just a fan of music or enjoying it for what it is..music. I like and appreciate music of all genres though not just Hip Hop

I agree not all of it is good, but I definitely disagree with having to be dumb to enjoy it.

Aging rockers as you say can continue to make music. It isn't a avenue you need to be relatively young to be successful. The type of music they are making. Rap is a young man's game, similar to there not being any aging athletes playing professional sports (over 40's) in relation to rockers compared to 'rappers'.

Not because "they know it sounds stupid". Just not cool to be in that type of music when you are over 45-50+ like you can in rock. There will be no Willie Nelson's or 6th different lineup of Guns N Roses in Hip Hop.
