Watched Ghostbusters the other night, and Secret Life of Pets lastnight.
Ghostbusters had it's moments.
SLP we all enjoyed, though it was different from what I expected.
Wife wants to see Bad Moms here soon.

Saw the Secret Life of Pets with the whole family. My three kids loved it! Pretty formulaic design for a comedy but it still worked. I would give it a solid 7.5/10.

Suicide Squad was very well done. Figured it would be a fun movie when the critics trashed it.
Saw Suicide Squad and would probably give it a 6/10. Great cast, I liked the plot/idea, but thought the execution, poor editing, and too many deleted scenes were significant detriments. I've never seen a movie cut out so many clips that were highlighted in trailers from the final film. It's definitely better than what most critics are saying, but I understand a lot of the criticisms. The use of popular music and fun factor (humor) make it pretty appealing to those who weren't necessarily fans of Man of Steel or Batman v Superman. For whatever reason, it seems poor editing is a staple of these films; first BvS and now Suicide Squad suffering from it.

My buddy saw the movie and he liked it. He said the best character by far... Harley Quinn. He also said he didn't like the portrayal of the Joker at all.

I liked the movie as well, so don't let my harsh comments fool you, haha. Harley was great in the movie (heck, she'd be great reading a phone book for three hours), but I also liked the Joker. Not a fan of how little they used or even introduced him, though. Several of his clips in the trailer were also cut from the film, which makes the sample size for review even smaller. Some other characters seemed to have sizable (important?) scenes cut as well, which I found frustrating.
IMO BvS improved with their Ultimate Edition (adding 30 minutes back in) and while it's a bad trend for WB, I think this film could benefit from adding some deleted scenes back in for the Blu-Ray version, too.

Saw Office Christmas Party, really enjoyed it. Great turn your mind off comedy :D
My brother didn't think the new Star Wars movie was that great. I usually like to avoid opening weekend crowds. Will probably see it over the holidays.

I avoid opening weekend crowds too. I like seeing movies about 3 weeks after opening at the first showing Sunday morning. The crowd is often sparse.

When the last Friday the 13th movie came out (2009) I saw it twice in the theatre.
Of course, I went on opening night and there was a decent crowd. I went back the following Monday at like 1 PM and I was the only one in the theatre. Talk about avoiding the crowd. :D
Rogue One was OK. I liked the first half of the movie. It's yet another Death Star movie but I knew this was about the rebels that stole the plans before the original movie. That didn't bother me. I liked the characters for the most part which were all new. The music wasn't very good imo. They didn't use a lot of classic music as they tweaked it. Plus they were constantly playing overly dramatic music with big drums even when it wasn't a dramatic scene.
My biggest issue was the second half of the movie. Too many over used things like "need to take out the shield" to get to the B part of the plan. Very tired of that part of Star Wars writing. And the obstacles they faced down the stretch were overdone and stupid. I don't think a high school writer would come up with some of them. You have to turn your brain off completely to accept some of this stuff. Star Wars has always been like that to a degree with Stormtroopers the worst shooters in any army in history but this was bad and they dragged it out. The movie should have been under two hours.
First half was a solid 8. Second half a 5 for a 6.5 score. Still glad I saw it but this won't be purchased when released on blu ray.
Let me expand my issues with the stupidity of the final battle/mission:
I didn't really like the idea of the final approach needing access past a shield wall that covered an entire planet. An entire planet!! Even in Return of Jedi they only had a shield for their base on the moon of Endor. This was a stretch although the bigger issue is again over using the idea of having to take down a shield or use a stolen ship/uniforms to gain access. But this didn't truly bother me like the following.
The main girl Jinn and her french partner have to sneak in to steal the Death Star plans. They gain access to the plans through their bot who accessed files much like R2-D2 did in the past. We accept this because it's Star Wars but I have to think their security is flimsier than the PS4 lol. But despite finding this file they say the file is TOO BIG to send to their ship because of the shield wall. I mean, they can talk to their ship still but this file is too large to send? Do they not have a zip file option? Are they only running at upload speeds of 1 mbs? Surely a galaxy that allows you to travel at light speed and use lasers to blow up planets wouldn't be using such a slow server? It was absurd! But this was the main reason they needed to take down the Shield surrounding the planet so they could transmit the file. Ridiculous! They should have got it, sent it and movie over. And for some reason after finding out they can't e-mail the file Jinn has to climb up a chamber to achieve a hard copy of it so she can try e-mailing it from another terminal. Not sure why Star Wars always has so much wasted space inside of ships and bases.
But it gets better. It's not enough to take down the shield wall. The wifi needed to be enabled too for some reason! And to do that a former empire pilot has to run a long, thick cable across a tarmac to his ship. He finally does that. But no! It's not enough. There is a master switch/lever that is sitting in the middle of the tarmac for some reason that has to be flipped. A brave sacrifice allows this to happen. But is that it? No! Jinn can e-mail this file to the space ship only when the Shield Wall gets taken down since it's blocking a good upload speed for some reason that doesn't block their voice communication. A Shield wall that covers an entire planet but a deadly Destroyer in space is easily foiled with an ion torpedo and crashes into the wall to destroy it after being hit by a tiny tugboat ship. So can we e-mail the file now? No! The antenna is not aligned! So then Jinn has to run to the antenna to hit a switch to align the antenna so she can send the file to the ship after her friends ran a communications cable across a tarmac and hit a magical lever in the middle of that tarmac. But the bad guy wakes up and delays this action before the inevitable actually takes place.
So much stupidity to just add time and unnecessary fluff and suspense at the end. Who writes this stuff? Did Lucas write this in the 1970s before we knew any better? So many absurd things it really bugged me. It could have been good. It's less interesting writing prequels when we already know the outcome. I know it's a movie and Star Wars but couldn't they have tried to find something at least close to believable?

I enjoyed Rogue One.... BUT.... My boys and I were soooooo disappointed that there was no Star Wars intro music or the famous scroll.
I saw the latest Bourne movie. Didn't have a very original plot. Just something to create an action Bourne sequel and make money. Wasn't bad. Just an average popcorn movie.

Finally got around to watching Fantastic Beasts. I actually fell asleep in the middle of the story. My wife is a huge Harry Potter fan and she liked the book but found the movie to be average.
Saw Logan over the weekend.
I think it is good and liked it, but also feel like it's being overhyped by reviewers.

Took the family to Lego Batman. I love Batman and I love Lego. That being said, I didn't love this movie. I give it a 5.5/10. Overall it had a weak plot and was somewhat boring. However the kids liked it though not as much as the Lego Movie.

I generally agree in that there really wasn't much of a plot and I almost fell asleep in the last hour. Parts were certainly boring. But the first 30 minutes was hilarious imo.
I think I've only watched the first Fast and Furious movie. It was OK but I'm stunned there are now 8 of them. Took my son to see this last one. Wow. This is a popcorn movie on super steroids. The entire movie is so over the top crazy, ludicrous and unrealistic that my brain was hurting at times. I expected that to a degree but it still surprised me. There are some funny parts although I wish there was more. Tons of action that makes a Marvel movie look tame.
Personally I have a hard time giving it more than a 5/10 but my son loved it. So does the world apparently.
I thought King Arthur looked good but it didn't review well on Rotten Tomatoes although local reviews are better (7.5 in Windsor on 63 reviews so far). But I didn't see much marketing and it only grabbed just under $15M and the budget was $175M. Pretty tough to make that money back unless Europe loves it.

Saw Guardians of the Galaxy yesterday. My wife didn't think it was that good but it had good humour and was fun overall. Probably a 7 or 7.5/10. It wasn't as good as the first movie and neither was the music which wasn't close to the first movie quality imo. The plot just didn't have a lot of meat on the bone for this one.
After all the hype we went as a family to see Wonder Woman. It was a bit of a disappointment. It started off well but the movie dragged. Was at least 20 minutes too long as wanting a movie to end isn't a good thing. There just wasn't anything that special about it. The WW2 setting and defeat the Nazis story line is very tired. Would have preferred a modern origin story. An average comic book movie. 7/10. If Gal Gadot wasn't so good looking it might be lower.

Went and saw IT with my daughter last Saturday and took a lady friend to see it tonight. I wouldn't mind going to see it a 3rd time.
Pennywise is so bad ass in this movie. I'm obsessed. [emoji16]
If you are interested, go see this movie. It's the best horror movie I've seen in YEARS. It's not scary whatsoever (for a grown man) but it's very well made.
I suppose, if you're a fan of the book or of the 1990 t.v. mini-series, you could have some qualms with this adaptation but I don't get caught up in that bullshit. Instead, I just enjoy what I'm seeing.
I went and saw Annabelle: Creation like a month ago and didn't even mention it here because it wasn't worth mentioning. IT, on the other hand, deserves your dollars.
Saw Justice League a few weeks ago and would give it around a 6-7/10. You could really tell it had two different directors and underwent too many cuts, edits, and reshoots. (Characters would change their look during the middle of scenes - wth?) There was probably some good ideas and plot when it started, but it ended up feeling like someone watched the original cut of the movie and thought they could do it better by changing the plot/movie, score, adding jokes, etc. but it only ended up neutering the whole thing. It lacked the same feel and consistency from Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, the first two in this trilogy. I'm hoping they add/restore a bunch of scenes for the at-home release to help salvage it.
Watched Baby Driver last night and would probably give it around a 5-6/10. I felt there were some good ideas in here, but they didn't tie together very well. It didn't help that the movie came in severely overhyped by the time I finally watched it, probably leading to some unrealistic expectations.

I was always creeped out by the IT mini-series back in the day but do want to see this new one as I've only heard good things about it plus I trust your judgment on it. I doubt I would ever re-watch it if I bought it, so I'll rent it digitally.
The blu-ray comes out next week, so I'm assuming the digital version is available to rent soon, if it isn't already.

I saw it and liked it as well. I think some of the hype was a bit much - it's not the best superhero movie ever - but it was good.
I saw Thor: Ragnarok the other night. Not only did I think it was overhyped, I just didn't think it was very good. The ideas and cast were fine, but it just seemed like the whole thing was one big jokefest with no care given to how the characters acted in previous movies. It definitely made me appreciate and like Black Panther more.
Ragnaruk wasn’t that good imo. Very mediocre. Not much of a story and Jeff Goldblum was too weird.
Black Panther was very mediocre. Nothing special about it imo. Hard to accept the merger of archaic customs with super technology. Doesn’t really make sense. I expected better after all the top reviews.
6.5/10
Rented 3 Billboards as my wife wanted to watch it. Like many Oscar type movies it can be odd and leave things unanswered but it was interesting. The language used in some families - yikes! But some very interesting scenes, some difficult to watch and a very good movie overall. Frances Mcdormand, Sam Rockwell and Woody Harrison were all excellent. This is a hard movie to grade but at least an 8/10.
Whole family just watched Tomb Raider. Not an Oscar film but a very good origin story. I thought the first half while the story was setting up was really good. I felt the actor playing the bad guy wasn’t so good. There might have been a couple spots where you could question a couple things but this was a fun, action movie that held my interest throughout. The basic premise was very similar to the rebooted video game from 5+ years ago with a mix of Indiana Jones. We all thought Alicia Vikander did a great job as Lara. Very believable and she was very fit. I enjoyed this more than Black Panther.
8/10 (may be a touch high)
I must also say that the original movie posters and screenshots were not flattering to Vikander. She is very pretty. I thought she looked great in the movie. She was also so fit she had a six pack in an early boxing scene. I guess she worked out for 7 months and added 12 pounds of muscle. Very believable in her role. The movie had very little humour which isn’t necessarily a bad thing although I like that stuff. I saw her in Fallon the other day and seems like a really nice girl.

Han Solo was weak. Just another in a long list of disappointments since the original trilogy. They created a legion of fanboys, including myself, that just flock like sheep to the movies. But outside the Force Awakens none of them have been good. Most of the newer SW movies would have flopped like Valerian did if it wasn’t for the loyal fan base.
Solo suffers from more unrealistic and lacklustre story telling. The biggest crime is that Han might have been the best SW character ever. So charismatic and funny and yet this movie had almost no humour. That could have saved this movie but instead just another weak offering.
Upon reflection I realize that there was almost nothing memorable in terms of conversation or dialogue in the movie. The original SW movies had great interactions between characters. Solo was a hollow flick.

There is no force or Jedis in the film. It’s about Hans Kessel run they talk about in the original movies. It’s Han origin story and it should have been better. The movie really needed Harrison Fords charm and smart ass demeanour. The fact there was almost no humour at all was shocking.
Jurassic World 2 was solid. I would give it a 7 or 7.5/10. There are only so many plots of stupid humans putting them at risk with dinosaurs. So if you are expecting a super great or realistic plot just forget it. But it’s not bad. A few laughs and a good pair of Howard and Pratt to carry the movie.
Overall plot with a minor spoiler
The dinosaurs of the last movie are still on the island roaming with no human supervision but that island is now an active volcano and the debate is whether to let them die or treat them like an endangered species. Of course there is an effort to save them and crap happens along with a twist or two.
I saw Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom today. I pretty much agree with your thoughts, Rudy.
I did think it was poorly written, especially compared to the first. Some good ideas but the whole thing could have used some better writers or more time in production. I wonder if the sequel will go towards a new island/location (the one mentioned initially as a sanctuary) or if it centers on dinosaurs on the mainland.
Yeah, the first one was definitely better. There are some cheesy or blantantly unrealistic stuff happening but my expectations were pretty low going in so I was pleasantly surprised. Certainly not a classic but good enough lol.
Saw Ant Man and the Wasp. It was a decent movie. I don’t regret seeing it with the kids but it wasn’t as good as the first movie. The story wasn’t as good, the “bad guy” or evil plot nowhere near as good and the humour fell flat far too often. The first movie was a pleasant surprise while this was just OK. I do like all the actors in the movie.
Mission Impossible Fallout was a really good movie. I still consider MI1 to be the best because it was the smartest of the series with the best twists. And while the second movie stunk, the series has made a comeback the last few movies with this one being the best.
The movie is a touch long but it’s action packed from beginning to end. While this movie didn’t have a tremendous story (basic stop the evil threat) it did have good characters and tons of action. It lacked new cool gadgets but was a fun ride from start to finish. Won’t disappoint.
8-8.5/10
Went to see Megalodon with the family yesterday. It was decent and about what I expected. It had been getting 7/10 review scores and that's what I would give it. It's not like Jaws. A lot more like Deep Blue Sea but not as good. I haven't seen Deep Blue Sea in quite awhile but that was enjoyable and intense at times. This movie wasn't as scary or intense. I liked Rainn Wilson's character and could have probably used more of him. Overall nothing to really hate on but nothing that makes this movie stand out either. The movie was broken up into 3 parts. Each part has it's own goal and then the movie is over.
Rented Rampage for $2.99 on itunes and we enjoyed it as a family. I thought the first 30 minutes were really good. Funny and interesting start. Then the story sort of meanders and drags on for awhile. The movie was over 2 hours and 20-30 minutes could have probably been cut. But it was a crazy, popcorn flick worth watching. Probably similar to Megaladon in enjoyment. 7/10 (might be a little high)
Just watched the new Avengers movie on Netflix. It was pretty decent. Had some comedy but there is no story. Just jam every super hero in the MCU on the screen and fight Thanos bad guys for 2.5 hours. Just shut your brain off and then smh at the ending. A fun action movie but I’m glad I didn’t see this in the theatre. Be nice if Marvel added real plots to movies other than the origin stories.
Crazy Rich Asians was really good. Some humour went a long way. More of a chick flick combined with Meet the Parents lol. Solid watch.

Just wanted to say that Black Panther was my favorite movie in 2018.

Saw Aquaman. It was pretty good and I’ll give it an 8/10. Maybe a touch long but had some good humour, pretty hot chick, a lot of action and a story that was decent. Probably some head scratching stuff in there but not enough to bug me. Kind of reminded me of Thor in some ways with a little Star Wars mixed in under water. I like this version of Aquaman because the original Justice League he felt like a pansy. I did like how this movie felt more fun and less serious than some of the new Marvel movies which seem to forget they are comic book movies.
Just saw this movie surpassed Wonder Woman at the box office too. Probably similar in quality. I think Wonder Woman did a better job on the origin story which was the strength of that film. I was annoyed with another Nazi action plot so the second half of the movie was better in Aquaman imo. Probably has more replay value for Aquaman as a result. Bad guy was better.
Just watched A Quiet Place and I was disappointed. I liked Bird Box better. Neither movie really explains what happened or why but you at least got a little back story in BB. And there were a lot of characters and dialogue that kept the movie interesting. QP was very quiet with little dialogue and some of the worst displays of parenting and taking care of your children I can see. No parent walks ahead of very young children or leaves kids unsupervised, especially in a hostile environment.
Wife did not like Ocean's 8 (I fell asleep early lol). But I did enjoy watching the reboot to Overboard. The original was good and this was actually fun. I'd rather watch this new one than the old one. The guy gets amnesia this time and what she does to him is different than before. Just glad they weren't living in a dump this time.
No spoilers. I’ve never been a fan of the Avengers movies. Not enough plot and too much mindless action imo. Hard to have a good story when cramming in so many different characters too. But my son wanted to see the new movie. I was hesitant since it’s 3 hours! I did watch the last one when it came out on Netflix and thought that was decent.
This movie was the best Avengers movie of all of them. Not too fast paced, good story, lots of humour. Plus action but not overdone. I really liked it and my son loved it too.

I knew nothing going in and heard no spoilers. I won’t say anything here either. And there can definitely be a few big spoilers too so people need to shut up. A few guys in front of me were on their phones and I said out loud “no phones!”. In a dark theatre it’s distracting. And they would talk here and there. Near the end of the movie someone in the row in front of the, told them to be quiet lol.
I also saw it in 3D. I didn’t want to but the only theatre with good seats available. There were some nice 3D things but most of the movie isn’t necessary. And since I’m wearing glasses now I don’t like it. Plus it makes everything a bit darker. But some stuff was good.
Major spoiler question:
I don’t understand why one of Black Widow and Hawkeye had to die? Just because the creepy guy said so? Explanation?
Edit: it was a soul stone so someone you love has to be sacrificed apparently. Was in part 1 as well.

Yeah, you beat me to it.
Anyway, that movie was amazing! Definitely want to watch this and Infinity War back-to-back one day.
