I have been off caffeine for 15 days now and I just decided to stop dipping cold turkey, TODAY. Snuff is getting way to expensive and after 25 years of dipping it was simply time as my gums were continually hurting.

So if anyone has some handy ideas to help me with the quitting of snuff, I would apprecaite any suggestions. Right now I only have sugarless gum. Can't do sunflower seeds due to the salt and the fake dip is as bad on your gums as the real stuff.

I know this might not seem thread worthy to some but it will give me a place to vent during the upcoming weeks.

I have been battling with snuff for a long time!!! I have been chewing for 20+ years and Copenhagen has been continually raising in price and $3.29 is the cheapest right now. My son, now going into the second grade has learned exactly how terrible it is to chew and I have been given a really hard time now by him which is tough.

This thread could be just what I need to help me break my Coke (psuexv knows I hammer that SODA hard) habit and the snuff too. With NCAA just getting ready to release I need to think long and hard about quitting ASAP before it comes out because I find gaming and snuff to go hand and hand.

Ya, too bad you didn't choose weed as your bad habit. You could quit fairly easy. I smoked everyday for 7 years and quit once I got married. I was 'moody' for a week or so but that was about it. Easy.

:) that was a bad habit as well as a few others but once I got married I quit that for the most part......but dabbled here and there occasionally when the mood was right. It's now been almost 3 years since I have done anything in those lines, no pun intended. Mostly it would be a long weekend at a camp party or something.

Because I would be dead from a heroin overdose. Yeah, I would be one of those addicts. Fortunately never touched the stuff or any other illegal drugs. It's the legal prescription drugs that can really mess you up, even when gradually tapering down. I did that with Effexor XR and I wanted to hide in a closet for a week.

Yikes. My brother has the same type of personality. Was a cop and got hurt on the job. Had to take Vicodin for an extended time and became an addict.

About the only time I did not want a dip was when I slept. I will gladly support you if you choose to quit. Was a Copenhagen man for 25 years, the last 10 I switched to Copenhagen Long Cut. Price on average is $5.50 a can in Texas, due to our sales tax. I can find it for under $4 but requires a trip to Kansas. I am a 2 can a day dipper and this will save me up to $300 a month.

Edit: Interesting that you mention your son. You could bring him into this. Since you would be saving money you can tell him that he can have "insert whatever kids that age play" after 30 days of no use, for his encouragement. Might be a teaching lesson in the somewhere and he sees firsthand how life will be better without all that money spent on tobacco.

I'm about every 3-5 days per can so it wasn't to bad but I'd also leave chews in for long long periods of time.

At that price I'd be going crazy, but I know I used to say at 2.50 per can I'd quit and now I've paid 4 bucks and never thought twice.

Whew, thank god I never got caught up in that stuff. I have bummed a cigarette once or twice while in college, and I will sit back and enjoy a nice cigar once or twice a year, but never got snagged by it. My vice is liquor. I love me a glass of scotch, brandy and cognac (of course, I have to have a taste for the expensive stuff :D) to sit back and enjoy now and then. I figure I'll die poor, but I'll die happy. :D

I never got snagged by painkillers, but when I broke both bones in my left arm during football back in high school, and had surgery the summer of my freshman year in college, I took the prescribed painkillers probably a little longer than was necessary. And if I take Tylenol for anything, I pretty much require a minimum of 3 Tylenol each time I take some for it to have any effect whatsoever on me.

i tried a dip once and i nearly threw up.

use 2 pieces of gum. chew one up and then put it in the spot where you put your snuff. then chew another piece regularly. it'll fool your mouth into thinking that you have one in and you'll kick the addiction easier.

I quit smoking over a year ago. Just cold, no gum or what ever. If you need to quit, just quit. No replacing no altering, no in place of this or that or what ever. Just quit because you should.

Well gentlemen, I'm all in. A couple weeks ago my buddy turned me on to the documentary (call it what you want if you're skeptical, whatever) "Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead" and I watched it on Netflix.

Basically, it shows a few people do a juice fast for 60 days with some staggering results. The two that are mainly profiled lose between 80 and 100 pounds each in 2 months. My buddy said he was going to try it and, after watching, I told him I would give it a go too.

Fortunately, I'm not on any medications at all (the guys on the documentary were both on several) so the "Sick & Nearly Dead" part doesn't apply to me - not yet anyway. However, I need to lose a bunch of weight. It wouldn't kill me to drop 100 pounds. I haven't weighed myself in a long time but I'm generally around 350. At 6'5" I've always carried it fairly well (as well as one can carry that much weight) but my age is starting to catch up with me (I'll be 40 on April 20) and that is changing.

It's time for a change and this is the route I'm going. Day 1 is today (Monday) and I'm going to go weigh myself today so I have a point of reference.

My friend (who could probably stand to lose 50) started last Tuesday. I saw him Thursday and Sunday and could see the difference in just those couple of days. He said he felt like shit for 2 days but each day since has been better. Now, after 6 days, he's already feeling better than when he started.

I'll be drinking 12-16 ounces of fruit and vegetable juice (from a juicer) 5 times a day and drinking lots of water. That's it. It's gonna be tough but I'm determined to do it and when I get "determined" shit gets done.

Here we go!

With enough water intake, the hunger should be manageable. My buddy, who is now on day 7, says that and I can see that already.

It is 60 days straight. No food.

I know I could probably get by with coffee and no food :D that's a good suppressant. I'm not sure about juicing though. One of the bouncers at the club did a diet similiar to that but there were some days where all he would eat is apples. Specific things on specific days. He lost over 100 lbs. too.

Update.

I had enough of not eating after 17 days. I started eating again 6 days ago but I'm just eating 2 vegetable wraps per day which total around 900 calories per day. I'm still just drinking water.

I was a bit nervous to weigh myself, fearing I may bring the weight loss to a near stop by eating. However, I lost another 7 lbs which brought my total to 28 lbs in 23 days. I'm really happy with that because I LOVE what I'm eating and I didn't want to feel like I needed to change it up again.

Thanks, brother.

Really, it is the constant feeling of not feeling content as well as the mental part of it. Now that I'm eating again, I never feel hungry or like I'm lacking something. On top of that, as I mentioned, I really enjoy what I'm eating.

Basically, what I'm eating:

Burrito sized flour tortilla
Whipped cream cheese
Greens (buy these bags of various "power greens")
Tomato wedges
Red Bell Peppers
Diced green onions
Matchstick carrots
Honey mustard

I make the honey mustard using fat-free Greek Yogurt as the base (instead of mayo) and it is DAMN good. I will mix it up occasionally by adding garlic salt and/or avocado to the wrap. I'll also, sometimes, replace the honey mustard with pico de gallo. I can stuff those damn things with veggies and keep the whole thing to 400-450 calories. I typically eat two a day and enjoy the hell out of it. I'm going to roll like this until I get bored and then I'll start mixing in some other stuff (mostly vegan).
