I played the alpha. The AI was pretty aggressive and appeared to be reasonably smart. They didn't sit in one place and let you just pick them off one at a time for the most part, they'd move on you and close the gap to try to pin you.

I didn't really interact with any other online players. Felt a little lost in the game in that regard, as the alpha just threw you in the game with no idea WTF is going on. I didn't get to play much due to time to experiment and find out more.

Gunplay seemed pretty good, but it is not a hoser game like CoD of course. The environment and game looks gorgeous.

I'm a little scared that solo play will be deep enough/good, as I really don't play multiplayer very much.

I think it's a definitely get for me at this point. Especially with nothing else even on the radar the first half of the year outside of Uncharted 4. Unless No Man's Sky drops down out of nowhere.

The map shown in previous videos will not be in the game at launch. :dunno:

Despite earlier trailers showing scenes set in Brooklyn, Tom Clancy's The Division will be entirely set within midtown Manhattan at the game's launch, the game's creative director said.

In an interview with the Examiner on Friday, and later in a video with Open World Games, Magnus Jansen said the game is sticking to midtown Manhattan because "of the 1-to-1 recreation" of that environment, which should still offer plenty of territory for an open-world game.

There's a narrative reason for it, too, Jansen said; the pandemic that has wiped out New York has cut off even interborough travel.

Nothing would seem to rule out other areas being added to the game later; The Division will have a program of premium DLC promising "major expansions," and a season pass available for purchase covers all of it. Still, the absence of Brooklyn is a notable change from the first glimpses of the game given three years ago.

Anyone gonna be around the next 2-3 hours? I just jumped onto the beta, ran into some other players in the camp, but headed out into NYC on my own. Got into a couple gunfights with some NPCs, nothing hard so far. It looks like your friends physically show up on your map, so you can meet up with them in the city. So if anyone is gonna be on PS4 here in the next couple hours, just look for me running around NYC.

After about 3 hours, I gotta get ready for work, probably won't be on PS4 at all again until after work Saturday night.

Teamed up for, what, two hours or so, however long it was, with myersc24. We had a good time. For being as limited as you are in the beta, this is actually a fun game. Being able to explore and find things to pick up along the way, I've found some good weapons just running around exploring, as well as a sweet Military SCAR-H marksman rifle for beating the boss on the storyline mission and essentially completing the beta story.

We had a lot of fun. It's set up nicely where for the first hour or so, I was just running around by myself exploring and checking things out. In the Base/Camp, whatever it was called, you can physically see other players running around, apparently to give you the option to team up with them, but once you get out into the city itself, you never see anyone else, so once you cross a certain threshold at the camp, you must essentially just end up in a single player set up until you team and party up with randoms or friends.

While we had no problem going through the mission at Madison Square Garden with just the two of us, I wonder if it has a fluctuating difficulty. If you go into the mission solo, you may not face as many enemies where as if you go in with 2 people, you'll face a good amount more, and if you go in with 4 people, you'll face a ton of enemies. I'm assuming it's set up that way, otherwise some missions you'd have no choice but to team up with a bunch of people.

While we're already done with the "story" of the beta, still plenty of exploring and side missions to work on. Can't wait to jump back in and dig back in tomorrow night after work. And while I was closely watching this game when it was first announced, after it got pushed back and after stretches of no news, it had largely fallen off my radar. After a couple hours of playing the beta, I'm on board 100%. This is definitely being pre-ordered!

Edit - Not sure the reason of myers' connection issues, he kept getting disconnected a bunch while we were teamed up (including during the middle of a couple of gunfights :(), but I was able to stay connected and had absolutely zero issues connection-wise or lag-wise, so we're not sure if it's just something with his connection or internet on his end or what.

Ubisoft announced its DLC plans (http://blog.ubi.com/the-division-post-launch-expansions-free-content/) for its open-world third-person shooter Tom Clancy’s The Division this week, revealing that Season Pass buyers will receive three expansions in the months after the game’s launch.

The Season Pass will also offer up new weapons, equipment, and “new types of gameplay that are designed to engage players after they’ve completed the main portion of The Division.”

First up for Season Pass owners is “Underground,” an expansion in which players can explore the depths of New York City with a squad of up to four players. “Survival,” The Division‘s second planned expansion, is a challenging mini-campaign designed to test the skills of veteran players who have completed the game’s main storyline.

Ubisoft revealed few details regarding the third planned expansion, “Last Stand,” which will arrive as The Division‘s final batch of mission-based DLC later this year.

Players who purchase The Division‘s Season Pass will receive all three expansions as they’re released, along with other exclusive in-game content. All players who purchase the Season Pass before The Division‘s launch date can look forward to a collection of day-one digital bonus goodies, including a sawed-off shotgun, character outfits, and weapon skins.

Season Pass buyers get additional perks every month via in-game events and scheduled “content drops.” Though the bulk of The Division‘s expanded content will come at a cost, Ubisoft notes that all players will be able to access free updates throughout 2016, including new gameplay modes and team-based challenges.

Ubisoft launched a closed beta for The Division this week exclusively for pre-order customers. Early adopters can sample The Division‘s gameplay over the course of this weekend before the beta ends on January 31st.

The Division‘s Season Pass is bundled with the Gold Edition and Collector’s Edition of the game, and can be purchased separately at launch. Tom Clancy’s The Division premieres for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC platforms on March 8th.

THE DIVISION POST-LAUNCH PLANS INCLUDE THREE EXPANSIONS, FREE CONTENT
by Giancarlo Varanini

Ubisoft has released early details on The Division’s post-release content, as the development team has a complete post-launch plan to keep the experience fresh for all players. This includes some information on the three expansions that are included with the game’s Season Pass. These paid expansions not only have new content, but also new gear, and new types of gameplay that are designed to engage players after they’ve completed the main portion of The Division. We have to wait a little longer for specifics on that content, but we do know the names of the expansions, their release order, and a few of the broader details.

The first expansion, called “Underground”, lets a squad of four players explore new territory in a post-epidemic New York City underworld. In the second expansion, called “Survival”, players will have to try to survive in a hostile environment that will challenge even the most hardcore Division players. The third and final expansion is (perhaps fittingly) titled “Last Stand”.

If you hit the streets of The Division’s New York on launch day with the Season Pass, you’ll get some goodies too, including an exclusive sawed-off shotgun as well as new outfits and weapon skins. Season Pass owners also get monthly perks in the form of exclusive content drops and events.

In addition to the Season Pass content, The Division will receive free updates – available to all players – throughout the year. These updates will be built around new game modes, featuring cooperative challenges that reward your squad’s ability to successfully work together.

The Division Season Pass is currently available as a part of the Gold Edition and Collector’s Edition of the game. Those of you who pre-ordered the game will be able to participate in a closed beta that starts on January 28 for Xbox One and January 29 for the PS4 and PC.

I am really getting tired of these games being released with fewer content so they can bend you over with expensive season passes now. It's getting out of control with the DLC. I know why they do it but I don't like it. I can understand if the season pass was $20 or maybe $30 but $50 is too much. The gold edition of this game is $130 over here and some season passes were being sold for $70 (Star Wars). At least star wars had tons of different modes with the basic game even if they didn't have many maps.

My son liked this beta but isn't in love with it. Knowing you would have to buy all that to keep this game interesting means I'm cancelling my preorder. I will give this game a shot myself this weekend at some point but I don't think consumers are getting enough with the base game from what I'm reading.

Yeah, I agree Rudy. I'm just not going to keep investing in shooters. Every few years is ok but to think I'm going to buy 2 or 3 or more per year - no.

I have Star Wars Battlefront with the Season Pass and that will be my only shooter for a long, long time. I'll get my money's worth from it before dropping 2 games worth of money on another one.

Rudy
01-30-2016, 06:38 AM
It sure seems like the market is saturated with shooters right now. That's a hard sell if you aren't a top dog.

Can you only run around in this game? Are there any vehicles to use to move around in? Just watching my son play and there are two things he would like to see: cars to move around faster and melee hand to hand combat when you are up close.

SmoothPancakes
01-30-2016, 06:45 AM
I'm doubting there are any cars, since it's set in a world where the city was attacked with a biological weapon (or whatever the official storyline is), so the streets are pretty much deserted and left cluttered with abandoned/crashed vehicles and trash.

As for melee, there is an option to melee. I've had to melee a couple enemies because the AI in this game are smart fuckers who use a lot of cover, and if you're outnumbered, they'll try to advance on you, outflank you and corner you, so a couple we had managed to close the distance while I was pinned down behind cover, I had to go melee on them.

01-30-2016, 07:13 AM
I love cover based shooters and this is no exception. Been awhile since I played a third person shooter but it came back to me an hour in. The gameplay itself felt like Uncharted, which is a good thing and also prepares me for Uncharted 4. Plenty of cover, grenade incoming, dodge roll into next cover as you try to kill bullet-sponges. The AI was really aggressive and did not stay in once place very long. They flanked well and had some melee only guys that seemed to disregard any desire to make it to tomorrow.

The boss on the other hand never moved an inch, we just took turns waiting for each others clips to empty. He had a powerful weapon and my health was rock bottom, so it took a while to finish that one.

The icing on the cake are all the RPG elements, many that we never got to play with. That will be what extends the game for the single player guys like me over a game like Uncharted where you mainly go back to pick up treasure items missed or a reply on a higher difficulty because it is a more linear story focused experience. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Only got to play in the Dark Zone for a couple minutes before the servers reset. Killed a couple AI guys and that was it, did not run into a human.

The game is also absolutely gorgeous, especially when outdoors. From the day night cycle to when you get that first snowfall.

Some issues:

No crouch button? Seems like a really odd decision for a tactical shooter.
Why is it every AI Enemy becomes the second coming of Dan Marino when tossing a grenade? Would it kill you to have a grenade get over/under thrown or hit something? it's a far to common problem in the cover based games. Yes you want us to move around and if the enemy AI does it's job properly you do not have to use this crutch.

That was my impressions of the Beta. I have deleted it since I feel quite comfortable in my pre-order. Would rather just wait and play the final product to do all the extra missions I left untouched.

I'm going to have to give this beta an honest attempt this weekend myself. I do like Brent's comparison to Uncharted since I love that series. Hopefully today I will find time to play although we are taking the kids to see Kung Fu Panda 3.

I did it solo and faced more than enough enemies and reinforcements but general rule is more players=more enemies. The enemies all seemed to stay the same level and the only fluctuation was some of the AI guys (anyone with a name) are more skilled.

Before you do that particular mission there is a Destiny like option that allows you to play it on normal or hard. Hard giving you a little better reward at the end.

Very nice rundown there! Summed up a lot of it well. The AI definitely is aggressive and they don't just sit around. I ran into groups where they kept moving and trying to close the distance on me, as well as flank me from both the left and right.

The RPG elements will definitely be what turns this from just a random explore and shoot game and extend it like you mentioned. We basically got nothing more than a sip from a whole gallon of goodness. The RPG elements are what I most can't wait for since we only just barely got a taste of them. Not only that, but you have weapon modding, you have various clothes, gear and weapons upgrades to improve your character. And yet it's not all positives. I found some great gear that had armor upgrades from like 2 armor to 15 armor. And yet, to equip that better item, some of them would damn near cut my health stat in half. Various gear improve or worsen various stats, so it's not just a matter of finding better gear and instantly equipping it like some games, where the gear only gets better as you go.

Then there's the crafting portion of the game, which we don't even get to mess with at all in the beta. Crafting is one thing that really intrigued me and myersc24 as we found a couple sites on the map where we were able to get a bunch of random parts to use for crafting. So you have crafting, weapon modding, gear that affects both positively and negatively your stats, perks and other abilities that you unlock by improving and building up the Base of Operations, which ties in all the RPG elements together.

And agreed, the city is beautiful. Myself and myersc24 took on Madison Square Garden at night, but the day/night cycle is nice. Haven't seen the first snowfall yet, hopefully today I'll catch it.

I didn't find a crouch button either, as far as I could tell. If there is none, agreed that is a big oversight. I also noticed that with the grenades. There were quite a few grenades that had no problem at all finding their way to my feet.

Since I only got to play for 2-3 hours last night, I'm planning on spending the entire weekend digging into the beta around work, so I haven't uninstalled it yet. But it has definitely solidified my intentions to pre-order and buy this day one. I have yet to even enter the Dark Zone yet, myself and myersc24 only just finished the storyline mission of the beta when we both had to call it a night due to having other stuff to do. However, some impressions I've read, it may end up like GTA Online. Prepare to die and prepare for the Wild West.

If you enter solo, random human players won't hesitate to open fire on you, and groups will flank you from all directions and just decimate you. Even if you go in with a full group of your own, even when holding back firing, the other people some guys came across would just open fire on them first, even if outnumbered. So like in GTA where you basically are 95% likely to be run over, shot or blown up for absolutely no reason by a random douchebag within a matter of minutes of entering a public lobby, expect to run into douchebags who will open fire on you for no reason than to kill you for their entertainment, and maybe try and steal whatever loot you have on your body.

Yeah, there were a bunch of enemies when myself and myersc24 did the mission. I imagine it'd have to definitely be a "sliding scale" difficulty in regards to number of enemies, otherwise a 4 person team would just mow through some missions if the number or level of enemies didn't change at all.

I don't think we even noticed anything like the Destiny like option of doing it on normal or hard. We just sort of ran into the Garden and essentially started the mission without any prompts.

Man, I am really gonna hate to give up all the sweet stuff I've found in this beta. Assuming the colors of equipment go in order of white (Regular-Worst), green (Standard-Better), blue (Specialized-Best), I have a blue M1911 specialized sidearm with Expert Talent (100% more damage dealt when target is below 30% health) and Destructive Talent (Armor destruction value is increased by 3% when using this weapon), with a Standard Ti-RANT Suppressor muzzle on it.

I have a green Military SCAR-H Marksman Rifle with a white VX-1 (12x zoom) sniper scope and a small grip on the underbarrel. Picked up a green Police M4 tonight with a Standard Heavy Magazine Spring, a Specialized PRO Red Dot Sight and a Standard Small Laser Pointer on the underbarrel. Have a Specialized Heavy Duty Mask, Standard Recruit Vest, Standard Coated Backpack, Standard Hunting Pads, Standard Adjustable Holster and Standard Outdoor Gloves.

It legitimately sucks to think that I'm gonna lose all this great gear, especially my damn Military SCAR-H Marksman Rifle, which thanks to it coming with a 12x scope, I have been able to use from a long distance like a sniper rifle and kill one or two before having to switch to my M4 and engage enemies as close range.

It's a shame we can't either keep what we pick up and gain in the beta and have available for use from the start in the full game, or at least pick maybe a couple items and have them saved for us to use come March 8th. I would keep my SCAR-H in a heartbeat.

Another one of the reasons I limited my play. They say you will get something for playing the beta. Probably a personalized street beggar that will have the balls to ask for two medkits.

I did have one laughable moment with one of those wacky street characters. I was just walking down the street and one dropped to the ground, made a small struggle to get up and then plopped back down. Could not tell if they were dead or resting. Did insert a bullet to the head to assure myself of the former. Those guys could use still use some work. They are either cussing at you, begging for stuff or ranting like a loon RAM.

SmoothPancakes

Well, I think I'm done with the beta now. After putting in some more hours tonight after work, I have basically completed every single mission and side mission. There is nothing that pops up on the map anymore, and I can't get more missions from the map boards at the Base of Operations or at Camp Hudson.

I also reached level 8 right before calling it a night, so I am maxed out on level for the beta, so there's really nothing more for me to do.

I explored the Dark Zone briefly. Yeah, other than with a full four member team, fuck the Dark Zone. Dark Zone can suck my asshole. I entered into it, go about 10 steps up the road, and then promptly shot in the back and massacred from behind by some fucker that apparently entered the Dark Zone 5-10 seconds behind me. Didn't even get to do anything than take a couple steps and I'm being attacked and killed by other players for no reason. Just as bad as the fucking public lobbies on GTA V.

There better not be any missions related to the story that require you to go into Dark Zone in the full game, because fuck the Dark Zone.

Other than that, I really enjoyed these last two days and I am looking forward to March 8th. I especially can't wait to dig into the full game and be able to finally sink my teeth into crafting, actually build up good weapons and keep them, as well as seeing what missions are like for the Tech and Security Wings in the Base of Operations.

Overall, I really enjoyed this beta. I thought the graphics were very well done and the gameplay was smooth. The guns, grenades, and gear were great. Every time I would see a green light spawn from an enemy, there was an anticipation of possibly getting something pretty sweet. As SmoothPancakes mentioned, we were able to play a couple of hours and explore NY. It was nice to see that every time we would come across a hidden stash that we could loot, we were both able to loot it and we didn't get the same things either. When we were playing, we very rarely ran into trouble. It was almost a little disappointing that the AI was so easy to defeat. I'm hoping that the real game is able to learn your style of fight and can adjust or the AI is just way more difficult. I really would hate to see a game that gets pushed back this many times is way to easy to beat because I do see a lot of potential in this game.

SmoothPancakes mentioned that I continuously would get kicked out of the beta. At one point, it was happening almost every 15-20 minutes, which was very frustrating. However, when I logged in on Sunday, I did not once experience being booted out. I play a solid 2-3 hours without being booted. It was nice to see that either my connection was better (it's normally good for every other game) or Ubisoft did a good job a fixing their servers.

Like I said, overall, I thought this beta was very good. I really enjoyed it and almost completed everything in it. It did get a little boring when I had almost everything completed, but I know there should be much more in the actual game.

Really enjoyed the beta but only got to play for about an hour as I had to go on a trip out of town. A hardcore gamer acquaintance logged 30 hours on the beta, and he thinks it is the best game to come out on Xbox One as of yet. Definitely a day1 purchase for him. I've got it on preorder and am keeping it that way. Looking forward to playing it!

Yeah, it was around the last days that I finally got around to the Dark Zone. It definitely put a bit of a sour taste in my mouth being instantly mowed down like that, especially since they were setting the Dark Zone up to where going rogue is supposed to be a bad thing.

I knew going in alone is bad, I read about the Dark Zone last Saturday before entering, how going into with a full team is best to help back each other up and protect each other. But I wasn't expecting to just be mercilessly slaughtered so fast.

When the full game comes out, I'll definitely be giving it another try, and with a group of friends, but I'm going to be a bit more hesitant about exploring far into it for a while.

However, just out of curiosity of this "special in-game reward", I'll download it and do whatever needs to be done to qualify for the reward. It'll probably be something stupid that will end up not being worth the time, but eh, what the hell.

Holy shit this is golden! A team of three guys playing the beta on PC, had an EPIC 38 minute run.

They went rogue and ended up getting a manhunt, they extracted weapons, survived the 5 minute manhunt timer, got manhunt again, holed up on the second floor of a parking garage or whatever it was, completely ran dry on ammo for their primary weapons, leaving them with literally nothing but pistols. somehow recruited the same people they had been killing, ending up with a team of like 8 people, somehow survived a death defying run for the subway and then still held out for multiple minutes with nothing but pistols, fighting against at least 8-10 people before they finally were gunned down.

Fucking amazing! This video alone just renewed my interest in the Dark Zone. We have GOT to get a 3-4 man team of us together on PS4 and go into the Dark Zone together, have squad nights similar to what we do now on Battlefront, just spend a night all teamed up in the Dark Zone. Oh sweet Jesus the fun we could have! Especially since the ENTIRE Dark Zone will be unlocked in game, so there will be a much larger area to run, hide, and battle as necessary.

If I didn't know a thing about this game, hell, just watching this video would instantly shoot this game to the top of my list. Based on my time playing the closed beta, plus all of these videos, The Division is becoming everything I've wanted in a RPG/Shooter game like this. Destiny never quite interested me enough, especially since from the beta of it, it seemed like it was going to become a constant grindfest. The devs went about building The Division to make it great. Third person, shooter, base building, a very adaptable cover system, the ability to both go gun crazy and go stealth, you can go 100% solo, 100% co-op or somewhere in between, plus the Dark Zone. I cannot wait for March 8th!

The entire 38 minutes is WELL worth the watch, but the absolute best part of it starts at 14 minutes and carries through to the end of the video.

Anyone playing the division beta this weekend? I'll be off/on this weekend so just let me know.

I played a bit this a.m. by myself and seems solid but I feel like it won't be worth $60 unless you have a group of buddies to team with.

02-19-2016, 09:23 AM
I'll be playing some tomorrow, possibly tomorrow night. I didn't have a chance to play the closed beta so I'm at least interested. That said, I played Destiny, beat the game, and haven't been back since. With less time available for gaming these days, online-only gaming just doesn't do it for me much anymore. Sure I can play it by myself, but obviously that's not what it's designed for.

SmoothPancakes
02-19-2016, 09:44 AM
I'll be on PS4 at some point this weekend. I spent 6 1/2 hours last night playing and streaming The Division on Xbox One. Spent almost the entire night in a four man team with guys from OS, doing solo side missions, and then we wandered into the dark zone for 2 or 3 hours. Had a lot of fun with a team. Got some good stuff extracted out of the dark zone, got into some heavy gunfights with HIGH level AI, and even got into some gunfights with humans who decided to go rogue near us.

It was sort of rough trying to get all of us coordinated because one guy didn't have a mic at all, and another guy's mic didn't work, so technically only two of us four could talk, but the other two were able to hear us two talking and planning what we were going to be doing, so they followed pretty well and we didn't have many problems.

I may spend a couple hours on PS4 this afternoon. Saturday probably won't be until after 10pm EST. And I'll definitely be online Sunday. Just look for me in the game and feel free to join my session. Since you can see all of your friends running around in the game on the map, just look for me dot and join up if you want to go through some missions and dick around in the dark zone. I may team up with some guys from OS like last night on Xbox One, so odds are decent we would/could have a full team.

Oh man, this game has turned into crack for me since the closed beta. It's just so much fun playing it, especially with a four man team. It made people in the dark zone very unwilling to fuck with us. One pair of two guys did, managed to ambush us coming out of a checkpoint. We eventually stalked them until they called in an extraction chopper, then ass fucked them as a group and stole their contaminated loot for revenge. :)

6.4 MILLION AGENTS EXPLORED NEW YORK CITY DURING THE DIVISION BETA

22/02/2016 04:55 PM

Today, The Division Beta ended and we’re proud to share that more than 6.4 million of you explored the pandemic-stricken streets of New York City, making it the biggest beta ever for a new game brand on current generation platforms.

On average, players spent around 5 hours as an activated sleeper agent journeying through The Division’s open world. The Dark Zone proved to be particularly popular, with players spending around 2-hours in the PVP zone, with almost 50% of agents turning Rogue in the process. Fun fact: over 63 309 800 contaminated items were successfully extracted out of the Dark Zone.

Thanks so much to the millions who joined The Division’s Beta and started to help take back New York City. We hope you all enjoyed playing the game as much as we have enjoyed making it. See you on March 8 in New York City, Agents!

- The Division Dev Team

It set a new record for betas of new IPs on the current gen. 6.4 million for The Division, Destiny's beta had 4.6 million for a comparison.

Personally, my final stats up ended being a surprising 22 hours spent in the beta, and probably at the very least 15-18 of those hours spent in the Dark Zone from Thursday through last night. I was constantly in the Dark Zone during the beta, so the overwhelming majority of my 22 hours was there in the DZ.

Yeah, it probably got counted as a rebooted IP instead of new. Still though, 6.4 million for an entirely brand new game/IP is still pretty impressive. I think this game will have a good solid player base.

So far off to a great start. Already got a blue LSW light machine gun, blue M1A marksman rifle and a blue pistol, along with almost all blue gear.

Yeah, there were some dicks doing that in the starting area at the very beginning of the game.

Sadly, last night was an absolute shitshow for servers. The first two hours were nearly useless because the servers were in a constant state of shitting themselves. I got disconnected while playing through the beginning in Brooklyn, had to "recover" my character just to even get back in, losing two levels and a some decent weapons, as well as having to redo two of the three missions in Brooklyn.

Thankfully by 2-3am the servers seemed to have finally been fixed and everything smoothed out. I played another 7 hours or so with absolutely zero issues beyond that point.

There is a ton! I've played over 20 hours, am at level 13, and Ive only managed to visit Chelsea, Pennsylvania Plaza, Hudson Yards, Tenderloin, Garment District and only just barely visited Hell's Kitchen.

I still have 9 entirely unexplored and unvisited districts to reach, with a easily a dozen different missions and side missions in each. The solo side is going to keep me busy as hell for a long time, not to mention the Dark Zone, which I still haven't even visited yet in the full game.

Let me know if you want to team up for some missions and stuff. I've seen you on the last night or two, so just hit me up. I'm mostly wandering around clearing out side missions and collectibles in various zones, so I'm always game for going through some missions together. Some of those missions are HARD, even on normal difficulty, holy crap.

The enemies are also much harder than in the beta. They freaking rush you left and right, constantly try to flank you and surround you. You can easily end up cornered with your thumb up your ass if you don't have some serious situational awareness in a firefight.

AustinWolv

Yeah, I've learned to keep distance during engagements, which is counter too many games, because the AI is very aggressive and strong in close quarters.
I especially like getting up on the front cab of box trucks and using the rear box as concealment to get elevated position to fire down on suckers.

The basher guys or whatever with the bats are the toughest to deal with so far IMO, because they flank and come out of nowhere quickly like you said about having to keep head on a swivel.

I should be on later. It is funny that most of my friend list has been on this game constantly. Don't think I've ever seen so many people on the same game.

Yeah, the first night the game came out, it was funny, seeing The Division listed 20 or 30 times on my friends list. This game definitely has the hype and popularity.

And I HATE those guys with the bats.
Same goes for the guys with fire axes.

Wait until you meet the Rikers. Instead of guys charging you with bats (Rioters) and axes (Cleaners), you get guys charging at you with shotgun. :)

Meanwhile, I hit level 20 last night. Jumped over 5 levels in a single night. Doing the Time Square and the Amheart's Apartment missions were HUGE EXP gainers. Jumped over a level and a half each mission. Throw in some encounters and side missions and I was flying through the levels.

Also spent a fortune (probably over 100,000 credits alone last night) buying updated gear (all my gear and weapons are level 19 or level 20) and then recalibrating certain parts of the gear to maximize the stats I want affected by the gear. Recalibration is an entirely other addiction within the addiction that is The Division. I blew through 50,000+ credits in less than 15 minutes last night recalibrating gear. That is going to be a HUGE credit drainer for me going forward from here, I can already tell.

Official in-game time, I was at 1 day, 5 hours when I got online last night, I can only guess since I already turned my One off, but probably at 1 day 14-15 hours now. I still have yet to step foot once inside the Dark Zone, and only just entered the Flatiron District and Gramercy. Still have half the map to explore yet.

Damn this game is addicting!

Here's mine:
I mostly run with the Classic M1A since it has 5357 single shot damage and essentially fires like a semi-auto. I've got the AUG as a backup in case one of the guys that charges sneaks up on me.

I'm around a level 12, looks like I haven't played nearly as much as you :D

Went into the Dead Zone last night as a level 12 and I think the first time I was in as a level 10, I accidentally moved into DZ02 which is why I met up with enemies that had skulls for levels; which means 5 or more higher.

I had a ton of fun in the DZ01 as a level 12 last night. There were some douche (kids I presume) that were only level 7 trying to go rogue :D

While I didn't go exploring too much for loot, basically was killing rogues and CPU's that were 10-12, I had a lot of fun with it. Almost a game within a game.

Those guys are brutal.

Sounds like my Sunday night........been playing with some guys up at 26-27 already, so I was getting crazy XP from running side missions with them. Started the night about halfway through level 16 and ended up 36k+ into 21 I think.

Also spent a fortune (probably over 100,000 credits alone last night) buying updated gear (all my gear and weapons are level 19 or level 20) and then recalibrating certain parts of the gear to maximize the stats I want affected by the gear. Holy crap, you burned through a lot. I about used all mine up doing the same but then turned and sold a bunch of stuff I wasn't using/had stashed and am back up into the 30k credit range.
The recalibration is crazy deep......can really specialize the gear to your style, and the possibilities seem staggering.
Get in good with a consistent group of people, and you could form some incredibly effective, tough 4man groups. Fucking Dark Zone could be murderous in that regard.

I'm about the same game time in as you. I spent a good 3 hours yesterday just going through Chelsea and some of the low-level districts to get all the phone recordings, incident reports, drones, etc. Soooooo much to explore, as I'm not even going slow running around to really check things out. I know I've missed quite a bit of the detailed stuff, etc. as a result.
On Friday night, I dropped into DZ with one other person real quick, as we were about level 14s.....it actually seemed a bit empty and we were able to extract some loot......one player ran up on us right before the chopper came, but then took off.....guess he was curious or thought better of attacking two people by himself or wasn't interested in attacking. Ranked up to 5 or 6 in DZ pretty quick in just that short session.

Where's everyone at with their character/weapons?
Level21
Was using an assault rifle and LMG config for quite a while, but recently switched to a DMR and LMG config. The M1A is great.
I like the DMR aspect as you can engage from afar, especially rooftops, and deal serious damage, but then I've got the LMG for when things get busy.
Just last night I got a badass assault rifle (lightweight M4) as a reward, so going to run that for a while with a DMR probably. It was late so I didn't set it up further. The current LMG I have is the tactical M249 Para.

While I didn't go exploring too much for loot, basically was killing rogues and CPU's that were 10-12, I had a lot of fun with it. Almost a game within a game.
For real, we were talking about that last night.......about getting to level30 and enjoying the game, and then crashing the DZ hardcore, since it is definitely a different experience.

Not sure if you guys knew this, but got this tip from a buddy. I've since gotten my scavenging up to +54%, and I'm getting a bunch of blues consistently in campaign. It isn't cheap to recalibrate though.

Got an interesting tip that significantly increases loot drops.
When you unlock the tech wing section that allows you to recalibrate gear (re roll attributes), spend the credits to re roll for the "scavenging" perk.
It'll cost some coin, but it makes a Huge difference in loot drops.
Go to each gear item, highlight each attribute for that gear item; it'll show you the possible attributes you could roll. If you see scavenging, roll for it.
Not all gear will have that as an option.
You can see your scavenging rating by going to inventory, right bumper to character, scroll all the way down to the Exploration section & survivability is the 5th one.
Bumping mine up to 72% took me from finding Blues & maybe a purple, to finding so many purple items that on a single DZ extraction, I was leaving purples behind.
Only having 30 spots in stash, I don't bother picking up anything but purples.
This effects loot in the campaign section as well.

I decided to get saucy in the Dark Zone last night :D

I was on the border of DZ01 and DZ02 and I started shooting at this level 15 CPU, sure enough he had 4 friends along. I retreated to DZ01 and they followed me over. It was a lengthy firefight but I was able to pick them all off at a level 13.

I reached level 30 Sunday morning and finally finished the story overnight last night. I started the General Assembly mission at 6pm, but between a family issue that came up during it, plus the internet going out at some point, I had to restart it nearly 9 hours later, but I got it completed. Finished off that, finished off Unknown Signal and picked up the last one or two collectibles, so as far as the PvE portion, I'm 100% done.

Now I get to see and feel the game REALLY open up and begin! I finally stepped into the Dark Zone for the first time since release, quickly shot up to level 7 just with a couple NPC kills, also got a couple pieces of gear extracted.

Also finally got a chance to run my first daily since hitting level 30, sprinting through the Madison Field Hospital for some very easy Phoenix credits. Gonna jump on later today and hit the dailies for Lincoln Tunnel and Amhearst. Then back to the Dark Zone!

Here is where I currently stand with my character.

Where are the daily's at?

SmoothPancakes
03-16-2016, 10:56 AM
They only show up after you've reached level 30. There are three daily missions every day, usually two hard and one challenging. They are basically just the normal story mission. The current daily missions at the moment at Madison Field Hospital (Hard), Amherst's Apartment (Hard) and Lincoln Tunnel Checkpoint (Challenging). But they are worth it! You can get phoenix credits fast.

The missions today, you get, if I remember right, 12 or 15 phoenix credits for Madison Field Hospital, 15 credits for Amherst's Apartment, and 20 for Lincoln Tunnel Checkpoint. In fact, you actually would up with 50 phoenix credits for Lincoln Tunnel Checkpoint, because you get 20 for the daily mission on Challenging difficulty and another 30 for just plain completing it on Challenging difficulty.

So just with the three daily missions today, you can rack up 80-85 phoenix credits, which helps as items with the special gear vendor (a LOT of gold high end blueprints, along with some damn good gold and purple gear) sells stuff ranging from 18 to 180 phoenix credits.

Yeah, I typically don't sign up for that shit, but the continuous releases and scope of what they were doing.........took the risk this time and glad that I did.

I actually cancelled my Quantum Break preorder yesterday due to having a shitload of other games to still play through, but not seeing how I'm going to be putting down Division anytime soon or for a long time. Thus, I can get Quantum Break at a fraction of the Prime pre-order price down the road, if it shows out as being worth playing through.

I've seen a lot of recommendations of about 50/50 throughout the game. As you get further along, especially as you see purples and blues that you dont need, consider deconstructing those more as crafting really becomes huge in the endgame and those blues and purples will being deconstructed for parts will help.

I've been deconstructing pretty much everything. You can convert the green to blue, blue to purple and so on. So you'll have plenty of parts to craft later. And if you don't like what is crafted, you can deconstruct it and try again.
For me, I'd rather have the parts stockpiled so I can craft what I want, because buying the high end stuff is ridiculous expensive.
Plus, I'd rather save the credits to use for gear recalibration which gets pricey with better gear. I've been trying to make sure the scavenging attribute is high for the mask and knee pads as that helps you get better drops.

At level 30, I sell anything that's green and deconstruct blues & purples I don't want.

Greens give 500-700 credits so they help in buying gear a bit and I have too large a stockpile of green crafting materials that I'll never use.

Great day!

Went to Gamestop, I had an old user credit that I wasn't sure how much was on the card. They had a used copy of the Division for PS4. I asked if they already beat it or something he said they didn't realize it was an ONLINE only game.

It was $47 with the Gamestop card, my user credit had $48, so I ended up paying a few dollars for tax.

Came home and played for about an hour. So far this seems like a really fun game, seems like a game I could sit at for hours and plug away.

I'm reading online about the season pass, I'm not 100% what it's all about but it's only $39. Seems like it might be worth it, what do y'all make of the season pass vs the default game?

I do have some ubisoft points, not sure what those do, but I picked up some crafting points, not 100% sure what they do either LOL.

Welcome to the club man! I'm on Xbox One right now, but I plan on also picking up a copy on PS4 probably by the end of April. I'd do it sooner, but I got a trip in late April that is going to cost plenty already without spending another $100 for a second copy of the Division.

The Ubisoft points are just in-game credits kinda that you get for posting their games. They unlock things in the game.

Season pass is basically paying for expansion packs that will come out later this year, plus new weapons, gear, appearance items IIRC during the year.

Here’s the list of changes that will be implemented during the server maintenance on March 22nd, 2016:

GAMEPLAY

Named enemies. will now drop better loot in Challenge mode than in Hard mode.
Added a cooldown period for the Static Turret stun attack in order to avoid a stunlock in PvP and PvE game modes.

Modifications to the weapon talent: Trained.

- It can now only be rolled on Shotgun, Marksman rifles and Pistols
- Its bonus has been reduced from 1%-5% to a constant 0.1%
- For the Midas SMGs, Trained Talent has been replaced with Responsive Talent which increases damage when getting closer to the target. This applies to existing weapons as well as newly acquired ones
- For all SMGs, LMGs, and Assault Rifles, it will be replaced with another randomly picked weapon talent. This applies to existing weapons as well as newly acquired ones

Fixed a speed run exploit for the Rooftop Comm Relay mission
Fixed an issue where weapons dealt no damage if the reload animation was interrupted by an agent’s skill
Fixed an issue where players became stuck in an emote animation if activated via chat while auto running
Fixed a bug where skill power would be increased permanently while using the Death by Proxy talent
Fixed a bug where experience was not being awarded for completing all side-missions in the Midtown East safe house

Fixed a bug where grenades would sometimes not display the blast radius warning before detonating
Fixed an issue where some NPCs in low cover would not react to being shot by the player
Fixed issues where emotes would cause the player model to behave oddly (missing guns, player stuck in emote animation, etc)
Fixed a bug where weapon mods and weapon skins would not show up on other players in the game world
Fixed an issue where DPS would not be calculated properly when purchasing a new weapon mod

DARK ZONE

Players can now heal other neutral players in the Dark zone, by using First Aid and Support Station skills
Players are now able to fast travel to Dark Zone checkpoints, but only when coming from outside the Dark Zone
The Dark Zone disconnect timer has been increased to 30 seconds, meaning players will remain in the game world longer when logging out while in the Dark Zone (this applies while not in combat)
Items extracted from the Dark Zone are now properly marked as "new" items when moved to the players inventory
Players killed in the Dark Zone now drop ammo, medkits and grenades. This loot is generated and not taken from the dying players’ inventory
Players killed in the Dark Zone will lose less Dark Zone Funds and Experience (Rogue and non-Rogue)
Dark Zone Funds and Experience rewards for surviving Rogue status have been improved
Dark Zone Funds and Experience rewards for killing Rogue agents have been improved
Phoenix Credits drop have been increased on lvl 31 and 32 enemies in the Dark Zone: Please note that due to this fix causing client stability issues, we have to remove it from this update until it can be addressed in a next one

- Lvl 30: 1-3 Phoenix Credits
- Lvl 31: 2-4 Phoenix Credits
- Lvl 32: 3-5 Phoenix Credits

Increased drop rate of High-End items from lvl 31 and 32 named NPCs in the Dark Zone.

Loved every single minute of the game playing single player. Completed every side mission and activity except for the intel, which I might look for in bits as the city is so well done it deserves a second look. End game is really not for me, tried the dark zone and hard story challenges with randoms and was reminded why I hate playing with randoms (technically anyone for that matter). Will buy future single player content. Played well over 30 hours so definitely plenty of bang for the buck.

* I would like to give a kick to the nuts to the person in charge of letting purple and gold level dudes heal themselves in the last two missions and areas. It was not often but once was one time too many.

Pretty sure it was the Russian Consulate mission. I had cleared off everyone but a purple guy who kept dropping them right after I took out the last. I guess he could have been a medic? Did he have a special marker above his head? If so, it was a medic. Yeah, I've been going with a high health tank build. I keep my life support station out for healing and auto revives, I can take a lot of damage and generally I've rolled with a LMG so I can put down suppressive fire to help teammates in firefights, but I picked up enough Phoenix Credits last night to buy the high end Vector 45 ACP SMG blueprint. That thing melts shields!

I've been hoping for the Caduceus to drop for me, since a number of people have reported getting it to drop in the PVE world, but no luck so far.

I'm not on as much as you guys as I'm only level 15 and 17 in the DZ.

DZ was fun last night, this douche shot me as I was loading up my gear to the chopper. I went on a manhunt and wasted the fucker after finally finding him about 15 minutes later. Unfortunately he didn't have any goodies and I had to go rogue, but it was worth it. Then this level 16 was trying to start shit with me, so I turned around and showed him how good my submachine gun is even though I'm a level lower.

buy the high end Vector 45 ACP SMG blueprint. That thing melts shields!buy the high end Vector 45 ACP SMG blueprint. That thing melts shields!
I've seen a number of high-end builds based on that gun. Something there for sure, lol.

I've been hoping for the Caduceus to drop for me, since a number of people have reported getting it to drop in the PVE world, but no luck so far.
That's how I got mine. Pure luck.

Agreed! I'm really hurting for sleep. Meant to go bed at midnight after some buddies got offline, but then some others invited me into their group, so......almost two hours later, I had to punch out, lol.

30 in PvE took a bit to get to, but I've only played....oh, maybe no more than 4 hours I think in DZ, and I'm at 26 or 27, I think? Goes up
pretty quick.

DZ was fun last night
First group I played with, we went all the way up to DZ06 and didn't come across ANY other agents, and we played for quite a while.
In the 2nd group, we saw some other agents, but didn't get into any trouble with any.....2 guys did start shooting us up during a mini-boss engagement, but they either accidentally did it while trying to shoot the NPCs or decided it was better to not mess with us, since the 4 of us were all leveled pretty high. Didn't seem like they were baiting us, and they took off once the mini-boss was dead.

The patch drops today, so I'm expecting a lot more rogue situations to deal with.

The only problem with those kind of builds is you never get to use the weapon talents which can be pretty good. Neither of those guns is able to use them because all your focus is on stamina/health. Guess you are just going all out tank?

I think I am 85K Primary (just a purple) 60K Health and 23K Skill Power. Firearms, Stamina and Electronics are all over 1500.

SmoothPancakes
03-22-2016, 05:44 PM
Yeah, I've been focusing on all out health tank with a focus on enemy suppression and team healing.

I'm slowly increasing my firepower stat and building up my DPS, but my main focus will still be on health just because I can go aggro on NPCs, I can lay down suppressing fire with my guns and flash bang sticky bomb to give my team time to move into better positions or flank enemies, and then focus on keeping the team healed with life support station so that they can be auto revived by it if they go down.

I then also have the tech signature skill that I can pop off for a massive damage boost to help the team just utterly mow down a tough boss. Or I can switch to the medic signature skill and if we're all about to die, pop that off for a desperation team heal/revive.

Basically in a four man team, I'm the team support man. I know I'm not the raw firepower guy, I'm the guy that keeps the raw firepower guy alive. In other words, I'm not the quarterback, I'm the offensive lineman.

Had to try out the Challenging mode, since I was seeing people talking about how brutal it could be. Since when did they turn a shotgun into a sniper rifle? Damn this was a challenge, fortunately I found a group using their mics and one of the guys had already ran it (Russian Consulate).

Nice! I went the $100 digital gold edition with the season pass included. But hey, I've already got my money's worth out of this game and the DLC hasn't even dropped yet! I've already put four full days of in-game time, around 100 hours, into this game in just a hair over two weeks, and I still have plenty to do and plenty to explore yet. I could put another four full days of in-game time into just exploring the Dark Zone, much less daily missions, challenges, etc.

And eventually I'm going to start a second character, go for a high firearm skill, high DPS, quick killing firepower build the second time around, so going through the entire story again, going through all the zones, the missions, the encounters and side missions, hell, that right there is another couple weeks of gameplay, since I'd probably go much slower through the game with a second character than I did my first one.

I easily see myself topping 1,000+ hours in this game.

I'm about 75 hours in on this game. There is soooo much more to do still.
Only level30 in DZ, have 3 out of 6 gear pieces that are yellow high-end, but haven't optimized them, still have encounters and intel type items to go collect, only have one high-end primary weapon so far........
Like Smooth, I haven't even slowed down to explore all the city and check things out. There are a couple big missions that I've raced through with co-op friends, but should do again to slow down and enjoy them.

I haven't played any game this much in years.

Anyone else run into a decent amount of server issues? The other day I had two errors in 15 minutes and almost quit, but then it was fine for the rest of time playing. I don't have the best internet in the world, but it sure seems that if I try to do anything else while playing the game, that also results in an error happening. The game must constantly be pulling up/sending data and if it isn't meeting the proper threshold, you're done.

I haven't been able to get on most of this past week, so I can't say. I was busy with stuff earlier in the week, now when I got time to play Friday and Saturday, the internet keeps dropping out a couple times a day. May have to switch out Time Warner modems tomorrow if it keeps up.

The first of two free expansions for The Division, titled Incursions, has been confirmed for arrival on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on April 12. Revealed in depth during today’s community livestream, Incursions adds a new endgame activity specifically designed for squad play, and rewards teams that come out victorious with high-level loot. Incursions also brings a loot-trading feature, letting you swap items with your squadmates.

The first Incursion, titled Falcon Lost, is set in a completely new, underground water-treatment facility that’s been turned into a stronghold for the Last Man Battalion. The Incursions update also includes the following changes and additions:

• New gear is a vital centerpiece of Incursions, which introduces four rare gear sets: Sentry’s Call, Striker’s Battle Gear, Path of the Nomad, and Technician’s Authority. Each set is meant to bolster a specific play style; Sentry’s Call promotes consistent precision, Striker’s Battle Gear is for assault-focused players, and so on. Finding and equipping four pieces from a single set unlocks a new, never-before-seen talent for your Agent, which the developers aren’t revealing yet.
Gear Sets

• Agent level is still capped at 30, but your gear score can boost your abilities beyond your level, and are touted as a new way of leveling up for top-level players.

• Loot trading is now possible; if you get good loot, you can now drop it on the ground and make it available to other players in your group. In the Dark Zone, you can only drop loot inside the Dark Zone gate.

• Assignments are new tasks – killing 10 Cleaners, for example – that are meant as brief, optional side goals that update daily and can earn you Phoenix Credits, Division tech, and other rewards.

• Supply drops will periodically fall from the sky in the Dark Zone, giving you and other groups something to battle over. They’re also protected by tough enemies, but the loot doesn’t need to be extracted, as it’s uncontaminated, and can’t be stolen once acquired.

• When your Agent dies, you can now camera-follow your teammates, seeing what they see and offering tactical support.

• Falcon Lost has two difficulties: Hard mode, which is recommended for players whose gear score is equivalent to level 31; and challenge mode, which is even tougher. Also, there aren’t any checkpoints in Falcon Lost; if your team goes down, you’ll have to restart from the beginning. Additionally, you can replay Falcon Lost and other upcoming Incursions as many times as you want and still be rewarded with new loot.

• Enemies can now employ drones, aerial enemies that will be tricky to hit. You’ll also be pitted against an armored personnel carrier, which acts as a boss and is impervious to bullets, forcing you to find another way to deal with it.

Drones

Incursions will later be followed by another free update, Conflict, which adds a special incursion into New York’s Columbus Circle, as well as new Dark Zone features. Additionally, three paid DLC expansions are planned throughout the year – Underground, Survival, and Last Stand – which introduce new areas and threats to The Division’s open-world New York. Xbox One players will have 30-day exclusive early access to Underground and Survival, although Incursions, Conflict, and Last Stand will debut on all platforms simultaneously.

I'll play solo for regular PVE stuff, but I always team up for challenge missions and I almost never go into the Dark Zone without at least one friend with me. Luckily been running with two or three friends the past week so we're well armed in case we come across any rogues or other non-friendly agents.

I don't, just because I usually get a couple golds every night and I sure as hell ain't trying to extract them by myself. Of course that changes now since every boss gives golds now.

Plus the group I roll in the DZ with roams between DZ03 and DZ06. Not too many options for going solo up in those areas with the strength of the NPCs.

That, and for the past week, it's Rogue-Palooza. Multiple groups of rogues harassing the entire server every night. So if you want to do any rogue hunting and stay alive, you need teammates as you'll just get violated going three or four on one.

Of course, I also have a shit ton of friends that I've added in Xbox One over the past month from both OS and just randoms I've encountered, so every single night I'm constantly being invited into groups or my group joined by friends. Most night it's at a bare minimum a three man group, usually four and sometimes 5. Hell, there's been multiple occasions in the last two weeks were we were able to put together an 8 man group by getting both four man teams into the same instance of the DZ. It usually took multiple attempts as the server would always end up full by the time we hit 6 or 7, but eventually we would get it done and roll with a mega group.

ROFL.....sooooo....the other night I had a couple randoms ask me to group up. They were playing all good, no worries, we were getting a load of loot and mainly staying away from other groups. It was a guy older than college and then some kid, who was chattering away and being a bit annoying, but not too bad. My buddy joins up a bit later, so we're rolling 4 now and just smoking everything. Kid says he has to go to bed soon, but wants to do one more extraction, and he ends up getting some high-end gloves that he's pretty geeked about........we get to extraction and the kid is saying goodbye. The random guy boots him from the group, smokes him, and takes the gloves. He said the kid just said, "Woooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwww...................." in the longest way.
It was brutal, as the guy was telling my friend and I that he'd been grouped with the kid for well over an hour.

And it was pretty damn funny too if it doesn't happen to you....

That's what I've been doing when no friends have been on. Go up to DZ03 or higher and just tough it out, as most of the people wanting to be rogue or screw over solos seem to hang out in DZ01 and 02. Not that I've played a ton to have seen differently.

Yep, problem is the extraction point at DZ03 is such a bitch.

My favorite is on top of the garage in DZ02, typically you can outsmart the NPC by hiding in the trailer after calling for the chopper.

I haven't ventured to and past DZ04 much yet. I tried to go Rambo and grab the supply drop, but I was 19 and the NPC were 23, and they mowed me down quick.

Right now I'm 22 in game and 27 in the DZ.

My preferred spots are the garage top in DZ04, one of the two in DZ05 (forget which one off the top of my head) and especially DZ06 since it's a nice isolated rooftop extraction, you can watch the streets and generally have advance warning of anyone coming.

Played a ton of Dead Zone last night, and saw ONE person the entire time between DZ03 and DZ05. I'm 24 in-game and 29 in the DZ now for levels.

As a 24, I can fight the purple level 27's but it's still tough. I did creep over to DZ05 last night into the contaminated area to open some goody boxes. Got a SWEET piece of armor that was rated in the 530's. I'm going to grind up to level 30 in the DZ then work on getting to 30 in-game, then probably try for some trophies for the plat. Gotta do some co-op stuff to get that though.

Yeah just a little time consuming. I figure I'll whore out the 20 rogues with Violator or H8 or someone eventually. If I were to guess, I have maybe 5-ish rogue kills, maybe a little more. I just unlocked the signature skill not too long ago, so I just use it all the time now to get that eventually.
