NBA 2K14 will be available on October 1 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Versions made for Xbox One and PS4 are also in the works for their launches, SVP of Basketball Operations at 2K Sports Jason Argent confirmed on a conference call earlier today.

"We are not doing a Wii U version this year," Argent said. "The decision was made internally." Argent added studio didn't have enough resources to pursue a Wii U port while also developing for next-generation consoles. Though next-generation and current generation versions of NBA 2K14 will have "some overlap," they will be "distinct."

"The common thread, of course, is the game first and foremost is based on simulation basketball," Argent said. "Both current and next-gen will be distinct, unique experiences."

I assume part of the lack of next-gen info is to encourage current gen sales, but I am perplexed on the 'current gen only' for Crew. I think smart money would have been on next-gen basically bringing over current-gen features, but maybe they have Crew 2.0 (with different name) for NG?

I'm also not a fan of the "Leaderboards!" mentality. I prefer "Community!" instead (clubs, online dynasties/franchises, OTP, stat tracking, etc.).

Current-gen 2K14's big new addition is dribble controls. Various inputs on the right thumbstick will allow you to pull off dribble moves or shots. Like an idiot I immediately tried to figure it out on my own without heeding any instructions, and ended up throwing wild passes. It turns out that holding LT (on Xbox 360) now triggers an assist pass based on whatever direction you nudge on the right stick. It's wild fun on fast breaks or for driving the lane and kicking out to a spot-up shooter behind the three-point line.

Once I got some advice from longtime series director Rob Jones, the dribble-stick controls made a lot more sense. As he simply stated, "Dribbles are taps [on the right thumbstick], shots are holds."

Did they fix the frame rate issues with their engine for My Player mode? Did they fix the utterly STUPID logic the AI controlled teams have when doing an Association (trade away good players for bad players, no resign players that they absolutely would, fill their roster with terrible players instead of signing good players, etc)? Did they fix the horrible collision logic when in the paint and trying to post up/move around at all?

2k13 is fun. They fixed my main issue which was trying to do all the dumb ass dribble moves by moving it to the stick, but they ruined the post play in the process. It's next to impossible to do an up and under move now without walking instead.

In NBA 2K14’s MyGM mode, you level-up your GM by upgrading from the seven different attribute categories (each attribute category has 10 upgrades). In addition to this, you can acquire GM-specific Special Abilities, that, if used properly, can give your team a leg-up on the competition.

Just used to getting fucked by 2k because I'm buying their product outside of their "it" market yet amazed that something like this could have easily been implemented on the PC side. But, no, I get the same game looks wise, a good bit more animations (it's quite nice to see), but, otherwise, it's exactly the same. So, I'm kinda pissed.

That was my hope but I was shocked when I got that email I may contact the fine folks at Amazon later tonight when I get home just to make sure. Its no biggy if its a week or so but I mean post Christmas? I'd just assume pick up something else if there is anything available at this point.
