The Evil Within (360, PS3, Next Gen) - 2014

Bethesda has officially announced The Evil Within, the first game from Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami’s studio Tango Gameworks. The Evil Within is a survival horror title due to arrive on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and next-generation consoles in 2014.

“We’re incredibly proud to announce The Evil Within,” said Mikami. “My team and I are committed to creating an exciting new franchise, providing fans the perfect blend of horror and action.”

There's a trailer out, but there's no game play, so I'll post it when it gets uploaded to YT. I have extremely high expectations considering Mikami is behind it.

Looks great.Crazy you mention that because as the chick was describing what type of horror games she likes, my immediate thought was back when I played Resident Evil on PS1 and literally playing that game in the dark was unreal.

It seems that same type of vibe will be in this game, granted I'm grown now but still.

Tempted to pick this one up but might just wait for the reviews to come in 1st. I love me some 3rd person shooters and this seems like TLOU only even less ammo and more blood/guts.

watched a bit on twitch with no sound here at the office and the game looked good but the story must be REALLY out there. saw a couple of puzzles and the guy playing it was having a really hard time with the game as he probably died 10 times in like 30 mins.

Interesting reviews coming it. Metacritic score 75 but some of the low reviews appear to just complain that the game is just "too hard".

I'm thinking about stopping by the store to pick this one up - anyone else giving this one a try?

Yeah there is an 8 point gap in the ratings between the PS4 and XB1 versions too which is odd. Looking at it closer it appears the XB1 has a 100 score and it doesn't have all the negative reviews that the ps4 version has.

Middle of chapter 3, a few hours in and not exactly setting my world on fire. The graphics are passable at best and making the aspect ratio 2.35:1, forcing me to deal with black bars is not helping. The AI is a touch wonky, especially the first time you interact with an enemy. There are times you can stand next to an enemy and they will not notice you and other times you have no clue how they spotted you. Controls feel off and for some reason there are certain times you have no control over your character walking or running. Early on it is more gore than it is scares. There will be blood, tons and tons of blood in the first chapter alone. Typical trial and error gameplay so far. Nothing too frustrating outside the wonky AI. Early on you play with a character who can sprint for about a second before he simply stops to catch his breath. Can't shoot very accurately and has a personality just a step above Aiden Pearce. The first two are because there is an emphasis on finding green goo, going to a crazy place and upgrading a ton of different stats. The last is just poor writing. The characters and story so far... Just a step above Destiny.

It is not horrible and there were times I enjoyed it but it felt rushed and the graphics does not sooth the eyes. Funniest part so far is I shot one of those creatures in the head, took half of it off and it still ended up killing me. I am playing on the normal difficulty (the second toughest), there are three and the toughest is locked. No question I will finish it, just going to take more than few repetitive death cut-scenes to get there.
