Crazy-ugly game has a crazy-ugly finish...

After a 14-3 first half with Michigan down, the Wolverines and Trojans both turned it on in the second half leading to 66 points scored combined in the second half which saw multiple failed 2 point conversions, a safety, and 6 combined interceptions.

The Wolverines came out on top but only by the skin of their teeth. After USC scored to tie the game with about a minute remaining, Michigan started deep in their own territory. After two first plays failed to produce anything, Michigan was faced with the decision whether to run out the clock or try to force something to keep the chains moving... for something it was. On 3rd & 18, Wolverines QB Cedric Clement dropped back and tried to fire a pass long the sidelines only to be picked off by the Trojan defense.

USC took over near the Michigan 31 with the ball game tied at 40 with 18 seconds remaining. USC came out in a spread look but were forced to pause a moment when they saw the Wolverine defense in a Cover 0 6 man front. Rather than attempt to run at it to get the middle of the field, USC whipped out it's balls, audibled to a quick pass and threw a short crossing route underneath. However, ready for the pass was FS Joe Bean who managed his second interception on the day.

Bean managed to return the interception back to USC territory. That play gave Michigan QB Clement just enough confidence to find his WR Garrett on a corner route near the sideline. Garrett made the catch and eventually stepped out of bounds at the 21 yard line setting up the short field goal attempt. From there the Michigan Kicker was able to nail the kick and give the Wolverines the victory as time expired.

On Monday when he texted me he said he was going to "Baylor" and didn't say why, I thought he was talking about Baylor University in Waco, found out yesterday it was Baylor Hospital in Dallas.
