Today, we are proud to reveal the first screenshot for NHL®14, featuring Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman and Captain Dion Phaneuf laying-out Montreal's Tomas Plekanec. Difference of opinion I guess. I love being able to play any game on the schedule just to change things up. For example, last week on NCAA 13 I decided to play as UTEP at Miami in week two simply because I wanted to play a night game and use a team that I haven't played with since NCAA 09 (UTEP). Playing the full exhibition, 82 regular season and probably 20+ layoff games with one team and only one team can become very repetitive. I want to be able to play Mtl vs Ottawa or NYR vs NYI as a one off but I don't want to play a season as those teams. I also like to follow certain players and see how they are doing. As I say, just different perspectives I guess...

I think I am going to turn off the fighting in the game. It is nicely done but I have a really bad habit of shooting on goal after the whistle. Spent more time in fights than actually playing. Had no clue hockey players got so mad about taking meaningless shots on goals.

It's kind of strange. I've had done games with a ton of PIMs (had a game with 70+) but I just went 2 games without a powerplay and the CPU only had a total of 3. I'm not sure what the deal is, but if I could have some consistency in getting penalties called I'd be very happy.

I'm assuming we don't have 16 people on here that have NHL on the PS3 but wanted to see if anyone had any interest in doing a playoff tourney.

My thoughts. Everyone gets a team and we play the 1st round matchups. The winner moves on to the next round, you wait to see who wins in real life and then the winners play those matchups and so on until the finals.

After watching some play-off hockey the last couple of nights I went and picked up NHL 14 for PS3. First "new-ish" game I've bought since NCAA 14.

My son thinks it looks amazing! He was laughing pretty hard when it shows the hits in the intro. He's 5 and thinks it looks good but said it seems hard! We did the intro tutorials together, might need to make the controls easier for him but so far the game looks pretty neat. I used to play back on Sega Genesis all the time, haven't played the NHL game since then.

I read reviews on the other versions '11-13', seemed like they said not to get '14 if you have those others since there isn't a huge difference or the features haven't changed by leaps and bounds.

I guess things are different if you're coming from Hockey on Sega Genesis, to me after only playing for a few minutes this afternoon, THIS GAME LOOKS SWEET!

Thanks! It was "interesting" he saw in the intro video how they are fighting, he wanted to know why they take their gloves off to fight...needless to say the only shows he watches on T.V. are PBS stuff (Cat in the Hat, Disney movies, etc...) never any fighting stuff so that was like, ummmm well it hurts more if you hit the other guy without your gloves, you could see the wheels turning....may have cracked the lid on pandora's box....

I do have a hockey related ?. I grew up watching the Blues when we lived in Missouri so I know some about the rules, I understand iceing, offsides, high sticking, etc..etc... my question is in regards to face-offs. I assume, the visitor (away team) has to put his stick on the ice first..Right? I think that makes sense, my question is why does the ref make one of them leave sometimes? He doesn't do it all the time and I can't seem to understand why he chases some of the off and has another guy come in to take the face-off? What are they doing wrong to get removed from this?

Thanks again for any help on the game, I'm going to mess with it some more, it looks really neat. Like I said earlier I used to play all the time on Sega. My son still likes Little Big Planet 2 more, it's more his speed only a few buttons and he's pretty darn good at it, he likes solving puzzles. I think the music is good on that one.

Next ?, on the game when I'm looking at Rosters it shows their position, height, weight, handedness, etc... what does PLY, SNP, DFD refer to?

On the top left under their names before their position i.e. D, C, LW, etc... it says one of the following: PLY, SNP, DFD. What do those 3 acronyms stand for?

EDIT: I've noticed there are others, TWD and a few others...still not sure what those mean...???

Those tell what type of players they are. Off the top of my head:

Forwards
SNP Sniper
PLY Playmaker
TWF Two Way Forward
GRN Grinder
ENF Enforcer
PWF Power Forward

Defensemen
OFD Offensive Defenseman
DFD Defensive Defenseman
TWD Two Way Defenseman
ENF Enforcer

Goalies
BUT Butterfly
HYB Hybrid
STD Stand Up (might have the abbreviation wrong, lol. Stand up goalies don't really exist anymore.)

Played my first game today, kinda cool it posts the results to facebook. Other than posting real golf scores and pictures of my projects like making my own beer fridge I don't use facebook all that much.

I played on rookie level, Blues me vs CPU Redwings. I won 7-2, had some good hits, need to learn how to hit better, I enjoy checking the crap outta the other guy, makes me laugh. I did have 1 fight, wasn't quite sure what I was doing, hit him a few times in the face, came out swinging, probably like a wild banshee, the CPU put it too me, lost the fight. :deadhorse:

I like how it has other leagues other than NHL, I guess that's similar to Fifa and leagues other want EUFA .

I watched some videos last night on youtube on how to win more face-offs, seemed to help then again I was on rookie difficulty. So far this game is really fun!

When fighting to save some wear and tear on your analog sticks use the buttons, I think X is uppercut and O is a jab/hook basically.

I play a ton and so does my son. When he is playing it is on the level above Rookie. I had started him on rookie and once he started winning 11-2 or so I made him move up. It's a very good game too push their hand eye coordination.
