Anyone have any recommendations on a gaming headset? I'm not looking for anything high end, probably under $100

Are you looking for a headset so that you can play with the audio from the game going through the headset or just one to chat with?

Kind of both, but more so for chatting

This does both:

PS Wireless Stereo Headset (http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Stereo-Headset-Playstation-3/dp/B0053OLY9O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1365520695&sr=8-1&keywords=playstation+headset)

This does both and sounds better:

PS Pulse Elite Headset (http://www.amazon.com/Edition-Wireless-Headset-PlayStation-3-63089006306200/dp/B0087OZ5FG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1365520695&sr=8-2&keywords=playstation+headset)

This is just chat:

Sony BT Headset (http://www.amazon.com/PS3-Bluetooth-Headset-Playstation-3/dp/B0042R81XU/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1365520695&sr=8-5&keywords=playstation+headset)

There's kind of a big difference... for chatting, you can get one for easily less than $50. For full gaming, those will run you upto and beyond your $100 budget.

Wired or wireless?

At this stage, I'd probably recommend getting a cheap wired one now because if you plan to get a PS4, the controller will have a wired headset connection in the controller.

This is the one I have, though I rarely use it anymore.

I like the PS Wireless Stereo Headset. And assuming it will work with PS4 with the way it works with the PS3.

Yeah, I got to try both of them out not too long ago and they sounded pretty good. I kept my current setup, but still...the sound quality is hard to beat for that price, especially considering they're wireless.

Yep plug & play. Couldn't be any easier.

I agree with the PS3 one. I have it and it's very good, all things considered. I definitely wouldn't want wires.

Yeah you just plug the dongle in, no audio hookups or anything.

I'd be wary of Turtle Beach. I've tried a number of their headsets and every one of them had a very annoying hiss when either no audio was being played or the audio was low. It may not be a big deal to some people, but it bugged the living hell out of me.

I love my Astros (although its out of your target price range). My only issue with them is occasionally the mic picks up a piece of plastic from the mic that is rubbing against my shirt. IOU I think you have the Astros as well any suggestions?

You mean the mic picks up the audio of the mic rubbing against your shirt?

I wear collared shirts a lot and it does rub against the shirt when I move my head sometimes, but I've never heard the mic actually pick that sound up. Good Lord, you must have some kind of super mic. :D

But yeah, I definitely recommend the A40s. I'd advise staying away from the A50s, though...I tried those and while I love the wireless, the sound quality is not nearly as good wired(duh) and it has some annoying design choices. I realize they're out of the $100 price range, but you might feel like splurging.

It's picking up the noise from the first connection of the headset and the wire that goes into the Mixamp and not the mic itself rubbing my shirt. The connection is about 9-10 inches away from the headset and I cannot figure out any comfortable setup where that plastic connection doesn't end up lying against my shirt.

I think for ease of use, and probable compatibility with the PS4, this is definitely the way to go. (http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Stereo-Headset-Playstation-3/dp/B0053OLY9O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1365542465&sr=8-1&keywords=ps3+stereo+headset)

The Pulse Elite Edition looks interesting though. But not sure if +$50 is worth it.

Yep! Already passed along for a May birthday present.
