We knew Polyphony has been working on Gran Turismo 6 since 2011 at least, meaning we had our hearts set on playing it shortly after the launch of the PS5. Turns out we may get the game a little earlier, as in this year on the PS3.
This is according to Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Senior Vice President Michael Denny, speaking with Silicon Republic (audio here): "Look at the games coming out on PlayStation 3 this year, like The Last of Us, like Beyond, GT6...."
Sony confirms that GT6 is in development and has been since 2010, but offers no additional comment about a release this year.

GT6 will have a large day-one patch (http://www.joystiq.com/2013/09/20/gran-turismo-6-getting-fairly-large-day-one-patch/)
When Gran Turismo 6 launches on December 6, it will come with a sizable patch. The day-one patch will primarily address a few issues with the game's online features, Polyphony Digital boss Kazunori Yamauchi told Eurogamer, adding that the developer is "still overflowing with stuff we'd like to do. So I think the day one patch will be a fairly large patch."
Yamauchi noted the patch isn't out of the ordinary for the developer, as Gran Turismo 5 was updated shortly after the game's launch. "It's the same every time. Everything's very tight. It's an incredibly tight schedule," Yamauchi said. "As to being able to include everything we want to on day one, we probably won't be able to. I think for the 12 months following the release we'll continue to update the software. Because in Gran Turismo 6 we're preparing a lot of different things we haven't even touched on yet."
That patch may include audio improvements (http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/09/17/audio-improvements-may-not-be-ready-for-gran-turismo-6?utm_campaign=ign+main+twitter&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social)
Gran Turismo 6 players may not notice any improvements in the game’s engine notes come its release on December 6, although series kingpin Kazunori Yamauchi admits they may provide an audio overhaul to GT6 owners via a patch later on.
“I think I mentioned this in the past, but we're really working to change the fundamental way that the engine sound works,” Yamauchi said in a press event at Polyphony Digital’s Tokyo office, reports Eurogamer. “Right now I have a feeling that it might not make it for day one for GT6.”
IMHO this was a huge mistake by Sony not making this a PS4 launch title. Yes there are more units to sell games on the PS3 for but GT6 would have likely sold more systems.

Over 120 new cars have been added to GT6 – taking the already comprehensive total car tally to an unprecedented 1200+ vehicles.
In addition, the number of track layouts has swelled to 100 and features returning classic tracks and brand new locations and circuits such as Ascari, Spain and the world famous Silverstone, Goodwood and Mount Panorama tracks to name just a few.
The carefully considered and curated car and track list is supported by a completely overhauled physics engine making gameplay even more dynamic and realistic, a new interface, and enhanced online functionality to allow you to tailor your multiplayer gaming sessions as you wish.
The technical innovation in the game also extends to hugely ground-breaking technology that will see in future updates a new game feature known as ‘GPS Logger’. The GPS Logger will employ the GPS function of your phone or tablet and Gran Turismo’s in-game Course Maker to recreate your everyday school run or work commute as a circuit – the trip to college or work will never be the same!

Following some heat on Forza for microtransactions, Sony has stated that while they are also available in GT6, they are not necessary to advance.
Gran Turismo 6 will include microtransactions with in-game credits that players can acquire using real money, but Sony said the transactions are "not required" for players to advance in the game. In a statement to CVG, a Sony spokesperson said the publisher will "not penalize players for not making transactions (they still have access to everything) and it is completely optional." The microtransactions are so optional that players won't be prompted to buy-in during the game "at all."
"As with previous installments of Gran Turismo, users are able to earn in-game credits and unlock additional cars by competing in races or event challenges," the spokesperson said. Players will be able to purchase credits in increments of $500,000 on PSN to speed up the process of unlocking content. Sony also provided the opening cinematic for the Gran Turismo 6, which players can see firsthand when the game launches tomorrow on PS3.

Looks cool. May just wait for it to get really cheap or just wait for GT7 which is rumored to come in 2014.
Anyone here playing this? I haven't read or heard much about GT6 in terms of community reaction.
A free update for Gran Turismo 6 has given players two new cars and a challenge in which to test their mettle - and their metal. Included in the 1.02 update for the game are the Red Bull Racing Kart and Red Bull X2014 Junior, as well as the Red Bull X Challenge. The challenge, as described by the PlayStation Blog, is designed to mentor players in "the art of driving an authentic formula car." Two more Red Bull cars - the Red Bull X2014 Standard and Red Bull X2014 Fan editions - will be coming to GT6 in a future update.
Things aren't all energy drinks and F1 karts in the land of Gran Turismo 6, of course. Mario Andretti's first car, a 1948 Hudson Hornet, is also now available in the game. Don't know why that's a big deal? First Love, a tie-in documentary presented by Gran Turismo 6 that tells the story of Andretti and his car, is now available to watch online for free.
The 1.02 GT6 update also brings with it multiple tweaks to the game's already-existing features. Credits earned in Career mode have been increased, logging online for consecutive days nets a bonus to all credits awarded - up to a potential 200 percent increase, and players now only need a National B license to participate in seasonal events. There are also two new seasonal events; one will run from December 20, 2013 to January 17, 2014, while the other goes from January 2nd to January 30th, 2014.

I will probably make their PS4 debut a day one buy though.

I almost went that route. Reinstalled GT5 and everything. :D
While what happens on the track is largely the same as it's always been, everything looks a lot nicer. Cars really don't look much different, but tracks seem nicer (possible placebo). All the menus look better, new cut scenes for loading screens... Everything seems to be upgraded a touch.
I had read that license tests are easier, and so far I am agreeing. National B (first license) test is only 5 stages and only took me about 20 mins to get all gold. A couple stages I got gold on the first try.
I had also read that the game is stingy with bonus cars, though I am not finding that to be the case.
I like that I have the option to buy some currency. I think a million credits cost me $5. That used to cost, like, 5 hours or something in the early stages of the game.
Really the only negative so far is that the game starts you with 30k credits, then makes you spend 17k on a specific car. Lame.
How's the drifting? If any mode is there.
On one of the Coffee Break Challenges, it gives you the option to assign the e-brake to a different button and mentions that it would make it easier to drift. Maybe they've made that more a part of the game than in past versions.

You heard right. While the driving part is pretty much the same as always, everything else seems improved to me. At least so far, I've only got, like, 2 hours or so of play time.
Seasonal events are giving out big credit payoff and bonus cars for bronze. These are all time trials and bronze is easily attainable. I got almost 700k credits + a car last night for about 5 time trial laps (1 silver, 1 bronze, several DQs :D ) in the Mario Andretti event. That one and several others provide the car, so you just need to get the National B License and it's money making time.
So far, I'd say that folks that are complaining about a lack of bonus cars + suggesting that the game is stingy because they want you to spend $ for credits are way off base.

I noticed last night that when the race is loading, it shows your best time and then the next screen is a list of your friend's best times. Sadly, nobody on my friends list is playing this. :(

Lighting effects are really nice. Willow Springs is out in the desert and there is a stretch that sends you straight into the sun, causing a little sunblindness.

Me too. Even though I'm not doing marathon sessions, only playing like 30 mins at a time, I'm for sure addicted to it. Not especially different than past versions, but I'm not complaining.
I'm not sure how online multiplayer works. You have to have the National A Liscense in order to access the lobby. They could definitely improve the social experience. And by 'improve', I obviously mean 'implement', since there is almost zero interaction with your friends list.

Yea, I've already been running a Ferrari in National B races, haha. It's a shame that the PP limits don't make for more competitive races. I'd like to go back through some of these events and house rule, like, -100 or -150 from PP limit or something.
And maybe I will. The easy availability of credits really takes the grind out of this game. I can remember on older games needing to re-run events just to raise funds. That is, for sure, no longer an issue.

Just completed gold for the second set of Goodwood Hillclimb. The first one, in a '57 BMW, was so easy that it tricked me into wanting to do the whole section. The '68 Lotus isn't too bad, but going from those relatively slow and stiff cars to the Mercedes GT3 racer is kind of a jolt, haha. Gold times for the BMW and Lotus are 1:08 & 1:09, respectively. I wish the reward for driving a race cleanly was as significant as the penalty for driving poorly in the time trials. At a minimum, there should be a threshold of driving off track that will result in a DQ. I just botched a turn and skidded through sand, but at a lucky angle that allowed me to gain ground on the cars in front of me and eventually win the race.

Had to do some fund raising by golding a few of these seasonals today. I was in danger of falling below 3 million credits. :D

I will have to eventually look to see if there are any tips for the win by 0.01 seconds or less trophy. Currently at 25% on trophies.

I've probably invested an hour and a half into the NSX seasonal over the last few days and I still need to cut 0.2+ off my best time just to get silver. :fp:

I love the Kart Space track.
A little too realistic for my taste. I had a bad experience at a place like this in Oklahoma City. :D
It takes me a while to figure the carts out. My first time running the National A race there I was in danger of getting lapped. :fp:

My biggest problem with carts is over steering.
Is it me or is the new batch of seasonal events tough?

I knocked out gold on the others, but I'm not even close on the NSX one.

I am glad to be done with these go-kart races for a while. Took me more than an hour this morning to gold the one at Kart Space. :fp:
Also, I forgot I haven't played the Volkswagen seasonal yet. I was hoping I would get that car free from the next license test before the rankings registration ends, but that is not going to be the case. Not that I am ever ranked above, like, 35,000 anyway. :D

20 laps for gold on the Volkswagen one and not a lot of DQs, so I'd say these times are getting harder to hit.
My time was only good enough to be in the top 160,000. :D

Yeah. I hurried through International B to get the Scicco or however it's spelled.

How did you get gold with the VW Scirocco? You can't do much to the car before it hits the 460 PP limit.

As far as the car goes, I don't think I did any power mods. I did a lot of stuff that doesn't effect PP, like brakes and drivetrain upgrades. I don't know if this really effects performance or not, but I put in the flat floors. I'm big on weight reduction, of course.
That track is mostly straights, but one of the curvy sections I was able to run at damn near full speed.

Looks like I made these mods to the Volkswagen:
Aero kit
Flat floors
Racing brakes
Six-speed transmission
Triple-plate clutch kit
Window weight reduction
Carbon hood
I think the windows are the only one of those that effect PP. I ended up at 456 PP.

Now keep in mind that I've been drinking. Like, enough that I just ran 11 laps and they were all DQs... :D
But looking at your line, I think you just need to tighten up a couple of turns and you'll have it. I think you can run the very first turn a little faster and the very last turn, too. There is one more that is during the curvy section that I think you go too wide, but you are fast as hell coming out of it so whatever. :dunno: You can easily tighten that first turn. I was able to get that last turn with just a slight tap of the brakes, usually. Not tonight. :D

I hadn't been able to play this much recently, but made a pretty good push yesterday and a little today. National A Mission Races were much easier than National B. I got gold on all of these in about 45 mins combined, and I know there were a couple on N-B that took at least that long each. International B License Test is not too bad. I need to trim 0.029 off my time on IB-1 (the slalom) and I'll have all gold. Again, played through in less than 45 mins, with at least 15 mins going to the slalom. I got gold on IB-2 on the first try, but had to play it again to beat JB's time. :D

I finally got gold on the first lunar mission. This really took forever, playing it off and on over a few weeks. I probably put twice as much time into this than any other event so far. I hope the other two go a little smoother.
The latest update for Gran Turismo 6 gives players more to look at, as it adds multi-monitor support to the PS3 racing game. After updating the game, those with two or more connected screens simply need to hit the start button in the game, then select "options," then "display options" to enable the setting.
Update 1.05 for Gran Turismo 6 also adds the ability to search for cars using a number of parameters in the game's car dealerships. Racing gear has seen a price shift, as players can now acquire individually-colored items as opposed to full color sets. The update also adds other features, such as the ability to select karts in one-make races on weather-enabled tracks and select time trial, drift trial and free run options in the "event settings" screen.
