View Full Version : Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (360, PS3, Wii U, PC)
Is the next Assassin's Creed all about pirates? A tipster just sent over marketing materials for something called Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.
Ubisoft hasn't announced anything about the next Assassin's Creed just yet, other than the fact that it will star a new character and a new setting, and it will be out next fiscal year.
According to our tipster, this poster will be on store walls on Monday, March 4.
The poster shows a white-hooded assassin—presumably the protagonist of Assassin's Creed IV—on a pirate ship, surrounded by gruff-looking buccaneers. There's a black pirate flag in the background.

As a former Gamestop Employee I can say with alot of confidence that is a Gamestop stock room!
The phone, the vaccum, and the sheer shittyness is all gamestop. :D
The game is confirmed. Official reveal will be on Monday.
That assassin is Edward Kenway, father of Haytham Kenway and grandfather of Connor from Assassin's Creed 3, according to The Examiner. He's a privateer, assassin and occasional pirate.

As has become the norm, it seems as if the PS3 version will feature extra missions on disc.

I have no clue who made the naming decisions. We went from Assassin's Creed III, to Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag? What? So apparently AC3 was just a one shot part of the series, we're not going have AC3: Whatever (like Brotherhood and Revelations) and instead jumping directly to AC IV (Black Flag).

I haven't gotten far into ACIII yet, but I would assume that when they added the sailing/fighting on ships (and it was legit, not like the tower defense mini-game in AC: Revelations), it was the impetus for an Assassin's Creed on the high seas.

Oh I have no problem there. I loved the high seas missions in ACIII. In my opinion they didn't have enough of it. They needed to add more missions on the seas. It's just the title choice that confuses me.
You had AC, AC II, with Brotherhood and Revelations continuing off the end of AC II. Then we had AC III, and now we're jumping right to AC IV: Black Flag? So, at least for now, they're jumping over the AC III sequels, but then also completely skipping AC IV and going to AC IV: Black Flag. What are they going to do when they get to the next foundation stone game in the franchise and want to make what would be the actual AC IV? Call it AC IV and leave people confused about the fact that Black Flag actually belongs with AC III, but it's titled AC IV, or jump to AC V and leave people wondering where the hell AC IV went?
Ubisoft's official Asssassin's Creed site reveals a launch date for Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag by use of some technical wizardry that involves replacing a letter in the URL.
As DarkZero discovered, heading to the official AC4 site for the world premiere trailer, which will launch in four days, and then simply adding a "v" to the end of the url reveals the above image.
The Ubisoft site notes an October 29 release date for AC4 and states it's "also coming to next-gen consoles." Sony announced the PlayStation 4 last week, Microsoft is expected to announce the next Xbox within a few months.

interesting discussion re: pitfalls of AC being an annual title reminded me of some discussions of whether EA shouldn't do an annual release to allow for them to actually put out a really good game. never going to happen of course b/c they can make more $ buy releasing every year with lesser titles

I dunno anything with French people "working" on is bound to be filled with bugs. I mean they only "work" 35 hours a week and that's counting 3 hours per day commuting to/from work and 4 hours per day at lunch. So basically they just drive to work start their lunch and then go home after a "hard" day's work. :nod:

I wish I could get excited for another AC game but 3 kinda put me off the game. They need to go back to what made AC2 great and that is not Pirate Ships, even less focus on Assassinations and new to the series, headshots. :fp:

When you are lawyering, do you disregard every piece of evidence? For example, Gamespot also reviewed the 360, PS3 and PS4 versions. While The Xbox One review was missing, so was the PC (to be released at the same time as the Xbox One version) and Wii version (Out Now) on both sites.
While I am no lawyer, the first thing that would strike me is why is the PS4 version being lumped in with the 360 and PS3 reviews and given the same score? That just seems lazy, both on IGN/Gamespot's end and yours. It would be great if I could come back with, "What prey tell is the brilliant legal mind of CLW on to?" Unfortunately your redundancy in regards to bashing the Xbox One would preclude anyone that has ever read one of your posts to say such a thing.

Sorry the PS4 version looks WAY better to me than the 360/PS3. I don't know what people were expecting with this jump but the difference is about what I expected just a more crisp/detailed image.

You do realize there have been several articles now noting that there is a ban on any XB1 reviews right now and many are pointing out that MS is hiding the issue that its games don't look as good compared to PS4? (see COD 720 v. 1080) This goes right along with that.

The Game Changers Radio guys were talking about the lack of XB1 stuff and the comparisions, and one of them is a big 360 guy that seems like he's switching to PS4.

So is anyone playing this or what? I love the AC series and AC2 was by far the best thus far with 3 pretty well sucking. HOWEVER after playing AC4 last night for a couple hours I think it might be as good or better than 2.

Can't say enough how much AC4 feels like a return to what made the AC series great and after another few hours of play I'm pretty sure I'm going to enjoy this even more than my previous favorite AC2.
If anyone has loved the series and got turned off by AC3 do yourself a favor and jump back in with AC4 and thank me later.

I have never played this series. Does it compare to Tomb Raider or anything? I know it's more open world so I maybe it doesn't compare to that and especially not Uncharted but I'm just curious. There was no demo for this game and it's just something that I have ignored for whatever reason. I've seen some gameplay videos and it seems good.
Edit: It's only $34 on Amazon right now.
I got this game for Christmas and I'm still getting used to all the controls and what I can do. I've only done a couple missions but do enjoy saving pirates and getting treasures. The climbing controls are a bit fussy compared to Uncharted but I like the combat system with counters and attacks. I like diving from above on double assassination attempts. Haven't figure out the Assassin jobs or treasure hunting yet. Lots of side stuff to do.
